Someone please tell me how this Angels broadcaster can consistently mispronounce Bobby Abreu's name without being corrected?

Sometimes it sounds like he's saying ah-bro, then other times it sounds like ah-brew. But it's never correct

i dont think the Yankees have any chance at the post-season. they will NOT be catching the Red Sox so the best they can hope for is the wild-card at this point. and the WC is not gonna be attainable being 11+ games behind.

^i am not sold on cleveland...i think they will fall apart in the second half. If the yankees play .600 ball the rest of the season (which would be easy for them if they played to their capabilities) they would win about 90 games...which puts them in wild card contention.

but you're right about the division, no one is catching boston.

I am a die hard yankee fan, and this season has been a nightmare. its ruining my summer

If they sweep toronto, they will pick up at least 2 games in the division or the wild card, because cleveland is playing boston for 3 games, so one of those teams is going to lose 2 out of 3 at least.

^not trying to be a dick, but cleveland is leading their division so they arent the wild card leaders right now.

if you were assuming that cleveland isnt for real and detroit will win that division, then disregard this post

^ I just looked at the standings and realized that. I thought cleveland was leading the wild card, but I really doubt they will keep this up all season...detroit is too good, and they get Rogers back next month.

well last year they weren't very good....and they are pitching much better than they should be. Things tend to level out.

Byrd is not as good as he is pitching now. Carmona has good stuff, and is riding a hot streak, but i think the league will figure him out. Roberto Hernandez is old, and Sabathia is an injury waiting to happen.

I wouldnt count on our starting pitching falling apart. Byrd is playing slightly better than his career numbers right now so I would agree with you there but we're scoring more than four runs a game so right now that doesnt really matter. As for Carmona, I doubt people catch up to him for a while. The guy has had nasty stuff for a long time and has gained the mental edge and for the first time. I wouldnt be suprised to see him win 16 or 17 this year. We still got Westbrook coming back from the dl so sowers will be in the minors. Our starting pitching is so deep if injuries come up we should be fine. You may be right and we very well could fall apart but I feel like it is the tribe's year in the central.

Tonight is going to be tough.

Moose has been crap, and Conteras usually kills us, even though we got to him last time.

If we win tonight, the win streak will be 3, and then we throw andy and roger against Pittsburg, so it has potential to get to 5.

Hopefully we stay hot, and boston keeps losing.

6 back in the wild card

10 back in the loss collumn in the division

Quote :
"It slipped Rodriguez's mind for a while, but he met the Yankees' first-round pick in Thursday's First-Year Player Draft, Andrew Brackman.

Rodriguez is a friend of Ramon Corona, an infielder on North Carolina State's baseball team, where Brackman also played. Rodriguez two years ago threw out a ceremonial pitch at an N.C. State game and beforehand stood in the batter's box against Brackman -- a 6-foot-10 right-hander -- in a bullpen session.

"He's a monster," said Rodriguez, who also intimated Brackman may be good enough to reach the Majors by next season.

Brackman recalled being shocked to find A-Rod hanging out as he warmed up.

"He stood right behind our catcher," Brackman said. "I looked up and thought to myself, 'Alex Rodriguez is watching my bullpen.' It was unbelievable.""

Pretty cool little snippet from yankees.com.

We can only hope he gets his arm back in shape. And I know these are big IFs, but if Brackman stays with the Yanks and gets healthy, and if Hughes can get healthy and if Wang can keep it up...

In two or three years or so, we could be looking at this top-three for a rotation:

~29-year-old Wang
~23-year-old Hughes
~23-year-old Brackman

Yeah I know that's are some big ifs, but man...I want to that rotation. I'd say those three would balance out the 61-year-old Pettitte and the 77-year-old Clemens at the back of the rotation nicely.

Clemens:

6 innings, 3 runs 7K's

yankes lead 6-3 in the 7th.

Good start for clemens, albiet he was rusty early on.

It's the Pirates. Lets see what he does against an AL team or even a halfway decent NL team... Though just the IP he can provide will be a help so Proctor's arm doesn't fall off.

^ it's also his first start. a win is a win is a win. he had good stuf...command wasnt as sharp as it could be, but it will be better, and his results will be better.

As I said before god knows we need him.....he gives us two important things.....innings which saves the already overworked bullpen, and a solid starter in the rotation. This is all good for the Yankees....There is no down side !! Go Yankees....

yeah it was a decent performance. but ask yourself if the yankees really needed clemens to win that game...10 hits, 9 runs, the bullpen pitched 3 scoreless and had 4 SO w/o even going to Mo.

that's why clemens is getting paid 28 million (pro-rated, of course) to get the Yankees 4 extra wins, not 15. they should beat the pirates without needing clemens on the mound

^^ If the alternative might have been Kei Igawa or Matt DeSalvo, then yeah, they might have needed Clemens to win that game. Giving up 10 runs wouldn't have been a record for Igawa or DeSalvo, since that would have meant going to some of the more shaky bullpen guys for longer.

Bottomline is I feel better knowing Clemens goes ever fifth day instead of Igawa, DeSalvo or any of the other patchwork starters.

yes - if you honestly believe that you needed clemens to win that game for you, you are blind to the situation clemens is involved in

that was NOT one of the 4 extra wins you'll get from clemens pitching this year

*sigh...whatever man.

I'm saying 10 times out of 10, I'd rather have Clemens pitch that game than the alternatives.

That's not being blind to any fucking situation.

And if YOU can't see that, then you're blind to the situation.

Goddamn dude.

of course you WANT someone like Clemens pitching...but you sure as shit didn't NEED him there

i just don't get how yankees fans can welcome him back with open arms after he sold out on your team. i don't know a single sox fan who wanted his ass back in beantown.

but then again you guys are used to nothing but hired guns/stop-gap fillers by now

me and cycle must share a brain because i agree with his stance. the alternatives to Clemens are not good; that is why those alternatives are now in the minor league with very little chance of returning to the Yanks anytime soon.

*IF* the Yankees had gone with an alternative in that game, chances are more runs would have been scored bringing the game a lot closer in score with the potential for the bullpen to blow the game completely (due to the cushy lead not existing).

we were 14 1/2 back....we sure needed something!

Even if he doesnt dominate every time, he will serve as a motivator, having been a part of the championship teams. Also, he will help the young guys like Clippard, Hughes, etc.

OK. It's just a misunderstanding. If I said we NEEDED Clemens to win that game, I misspoke. Did we NEED him? No. Was it nice to have a starter in his position in the rotation give up less than seven runs? Yes it was.

Having watched DeSalvo and Igawa pitch (except for one outing for Igawa against Boston), it wouldn't have surprised me to see them give up six runs in four innings, opening up a looooot of opportunities against an admittedly unbelievably weak middle relief.
