^we beat Indy in Indy that year.
I wish the schedule makers would wise up and give us more primetime games after a non-playoff season. We always get 3-4 after a playoff year, and promptly suck it up. Then we get 0-2 primetime slots and we're lights out.

i'm hearing the skins are in the market for trading down in the draft, how about this:
Jenkins to the skins for swapping 1st round picks and the skins 2nd rounder next year (skins don't have one this year). If they really are looking to move Jenkins, the skins are looking for D-line help, and we'd most likely be high enough to get Landry at the 6 spot, plus an extra 1st day pick next year. 4/11/2007 3:13:04 PM |

Yeah the media is pissed at us because we went from darlings to dissappointment last year and many of them had thrown in their chips for us already. Thats fine. This team thrives in a comeback, non-spotlight role. Our schedule is much easier this year than last year IMO, so I just want to get to the playoffs like we're supposed to. 4/12/2007 8:47:21 AM |

Dallas game is locked for primetime so they cant steal it from us if we suck
Remember, weeks 11-17 we could get our games moved to the 8.15 NBC slot if our game is sexier than the ones they have penciled in.
.
Sunday, Nov. 18 Chicago at Seattle* 8:15 p.m. (NBC)
Sunday, Nov. 25 Philadelphia at New England* 8:15 p.m. (NBC)
Sunday, Dec. 2 Cincinnati at Pittsburgh* 8:15 p.m. (NBC)
Sunday, Dec. 9 Indianapolis at Baltimore* 8:15 p.m. (NBC)
Sunday, Dec. 16 Washington at N.Y Giants* 8:15 p.m. (NBC)
Sunday, Dec. 23 Tampa Bay at San Francisco* 8:15 p.m. (NBC) Panthers not eligible with Dallas game locked in
Sunday, Dec. 30 Kansas City at N.Y. Jets* 8:15 p.m. (NBC)
So if any of these games look shitty a few weeks before they're scheduled, than they'll get bumped back to an afternoon game.
It's more embarrasing this year since they publicized the penciled in games, so everyone will know a game has been bumped off primetime.
I think FOX and CBS get like 5 games each to protect from being stolen by NBC

Quote : | "Eye on Jenkins? The Broncos are looking for a veteran defensive tackle. A name Denver likely will consider is Carolina's Kris Jenkins. The Charlotte Observer has reported he is being shopped.
Denver liked Jenkins when he came out in the 2001 draft. He weighs about 340 pounds, which Bates likes in his tackles.
Jenkins could cost a midround draft pick. The Broncos have two third-round picks.
Denver also will likely look to upgrade the position early in the April 28-29 draft " |

just a 2nd round pick? For Jenkins? I thought he would be worth more than that. For all we know he could leave and have 4-5 more pro bowl seasons. Thats not too far of a stretch, the guy is talented even if he does lack discipline and motivation. A coach like Shanahan might get him moving again...
What could the Broncos offer us besides a pick this year? IMO Jenkins is worth a 1st round pick plus $$ at least.... 4/12/2007 12:19:54 PM |

I've seen Kris Jenkins twice in real life. Both times, he was hammered.
If we can somehow get the Rams 1st rounder for him (13) we could grab one of the top two safeties, and possibly get Patrick Willis with our first rounder. Wishful thinking...
Nelson/Landry, Willis > Jenkins

We gotta hold on to Jenkins and at least see if those knees are rehabbed IMO. If he can come back and 80% of his potential is there then he is worth holding onto.

Quote : | "CHARLOTTE — Returning to the Carolina Panthers next season would be “extremely awkward” for defensive tackle Kris Jenkins now that the team has attempted to trade him, according to his publicist Livis Freeman.
The Panthers made it known to other NFL teams in recent weeks that the three-time Pro Bowler is on the trading block and that they are entertaining offers.
Freeman said St. Louis, Denver and Kansas City appear interested in Jenkins, although other teams have also inquired about his services. It’s unclear what the Panthers want in return for Jenkins — it could be a first- or high second-round pick in this year’s draft, but a veteran starter at a need position would also be tempting.
If the Panthers don’t get what they want, they could decide to keep Jenkins, who has three years remaining on a $31 million contract extension he signed following the 2003 season.
“Kris is very upbeat and he told me that whatever happens, he just wants it to happen,” said Freeman, who had dinner on Tuesday night with Jenkins. “It’s a tough position to be in — waiting to hear if he will stay in Charlotte or if he has to move on. It comes down to this — he wants to be somewhere where he feels appreciated and he feels wanted. He said if he didn’t get traded it would be extremely awkward going back to Carolina. He didn’t say he doesn’t want to be in Carolina, he just said it would be awkward knowing they tried to trade him.”
In the past, Jenkins has drawn the ire of the team’s coaches because of his inability to keep the xtra pounds off. They like him at about 335 pounds, but hass ballooned to nearly 400 pounds at various points of his Panthers career.
Jenkins has also admitted to the media that he drank too much alcohol while sitting out the 2004 season with a shoulder injury and not rehabbing as vigorously as he could.
Jenkins, 27, missed a combined 27 games in ’04 and ’05. But he was able to start all 16 games last season and was somewhat of a surprise selection to the NFC Pro Bowl team despite an up-and-down season.
Jenkins’ agent, Anthony Paige, is not returning phone calls. But Freeman said Paige is working in concert with Panthers general manager Marty Hurney to orchestrate a trade and is giving Jenkins a role in the process.
“The Panthers haven’t told Kris anything directly, but they have been communicating with Tony (Paige),” said Freeman.
The Panthers, however, are not commenting on any trade talks.
Jenkins has not participated in the team’s off-season workouts, Freeman said, because he’s working with his own personal trainer at his new home in Maryland. The move cost Jenkins a $175,000 workout bonus, but it also allowed him to be closer to one of his sons.
“I think he’s in the best shape he’s ever been in,” Freeman said. “It’s incredible the shape he’s in. He’s definitely lost some weight.”" |
He said if he didn’t get traded it would be extremely awkward going back to Carolina. He didn’t say he doesn’t want to be in Carolina, he just said it would be awkward knowing they tried to trade him

Yeah, I wonder if that is a passive plea to be traded though? Hes not the kinda guy to say something like that outright. I can definitely see why the panthers want to move him now. I also think that this probably has been going on alot longer than we knew about, but it just recently hit the fan when the press caught us shopping him to the Rams.
All that stuff about him being in the best shape of his life is to be expected from his publicist. /hype 4/13/2007 12:24:21 PM |

Jenkins for Briggs. Bears are about to need DT help with Tank being in trouble, and we need a LB.
If not then I think a high 2nd and maybe a 4th rounder would be adequate. Doubt any team is willing to part ways with a 1st rounder except perhaps the Colts. 4/15/2007 11:47:49 PM |

It would be awesome to get Briggs, but Carolina doesn't have the cap room to sign him to the big deal he wants.

There's a low in any trade talks right now, but I think once we get closer to the draft we'll see if there is a team that really wants Jenkins
ESPN is saying that the Panters might try to draft the TE Greg Olsen from Miami. I think this would be a great pick because he's got great hands and he's big enough to offer an extra blocker for our running game. 4/19/2007 2:37:36 PM |

I can't figure out all the hype surrounding Greg Olsen. He just seems like another workout wonder to me. He never lived up to all the hype and expectations placed on him at the collegiate level. I mean based on workout number he seems like a freak at the TE position, but I just don't think he's worth a top 15 pick for any team, especially one with as many pressing needs as we have. 4/19/2007 3:37:33 PM |

Olsen's last two years statistically speaking:
2006 40 receptions 489 yds 12.2 yds/catch 2005 31 receptions 451 yds 14.5 yds/catch
Zach Millers last two years (closest TE competion) 2006 50 receptions 484 yds 9.7 yds/catch 2005 38 receptions 476 yds 12.5 yds/catch
While, there stats are pretty similar, Olsen gives you a much bigger deep threat, and is considered the only tight end in the draft that can really stretch the field.
Our new OC comes with a system that puts key emphasis on the receiving capabilities of the TE. See Kellen Winslow.
Miami TE Statistics
Jeremy Shockey: 2001 40 catches 519 yds 13.0 yds/catch 2000 21 catches 296 yds 14.0 yds/catch
Kellen Winslow: 2002 57 catches 726 yds 12.7 yds/catch 4/19/2007 3:58:16 PM |

landry....he'll be an immediate starter, and leader of the secondary within a year or two.
^I'd like to have olsen, don't get me wrong, but I also don't want to have win a shootout every game. I'd say it would be smarter to see what the new OC can do with the TE's we already have.
