I do hand it that. How many nobel prizes and oscars will be handed out before the scam is realized?

Fortunately for these asswipes peddling this fear, they predict that "oh in 100 years or so we will see DISASTROUS EFFECTS of EPIC PROPORTIONS to the world" ...... which would be about 50 or 60 years after they're dead.

They'll never have to own up to the shit they're causing.

Chemistry-wise, carbon sequestration is real. But the impact it may or may not have isn't known. Plus the amount of co2 we can artificially remove from the air is miniscule compared to the amount of co2 that transfers from ocean/atmosphere and from all photosynthetic plants to the atmosphere every day

No. We thought long and hard about this, as many social ventures do. Ultimately we decided that timely access to capital was a critical factor. By creating a for-profit structure, we have been able to attract financing in very short order to fund critical marketing programs and spread the word."

Like I said, sounds like a scam to me. They are audited by the same company who certifies almost all of the companies they fund. Thats a conflict of interest.

the main difference in oil companies and terrapass is that oil companies sell oil and terrapass sells co2 credits

financially they are both trying to make money

OMG THAT SCIENTIST WAS FUNDED BY TERRAPASS, THERE GOES HIS CREDIBILITY

i plugged my info into the terrapass site...heres what it suggested, fyi

Quote :

Why should anybody take Gore seriously? Besides some of the outragious claims, the administration he was a part of had a horrible environmental record and he does nothing in his personal life to curb any of his environmental claims. He has done nothing to warrant any credibility on the issue...

ooo i started a trend and a fight.

you can also help get green power of the ground in Raleigh if you donate an extra $4 a month (min.) to Progress Energy's Green Program.

http://www.progress-energy.com/custservice/carres/greenpower/index.asp

Quote :
"NC GreenPower - this program allows residential and small commercial customers to contribute $4 per month for a 100-kilowatt-hour block of green power. The $4 per block monthly fee is added to the customer's regular electric bill. This block of renewable energy will come from solar, wind and biomass resources. "

So there's a possible way Al Gore could be doing the same thing in TN correct? Even tho I heard today that all his energy comes from Green sources, I believe they meant through this type of program.

But it seems to me republicans and who ever else thinks this stuff is a scam (in relation to TerraPass & Global Warming) wants to see a perfect clear cut solution 3 years ago to the pollution and CO2 we put out. And since there isnt one, everything must be a lie and everyone must be a hypocrite who believes in fighting global warming.

I believe its an ironic stance, seeing as Iraq is almost in the same boat to said republicans.

I cannot plant trees, grow corn, install solar panels, etc to do what I think is right in offseting my carbon footprint. But I will take the chance on someone else helping me do so, b/c the free market is catching up to people like myself.

We're not coming down on him because he uses energy... we're coming down on him because he preaches to us about reducing consumption while heating and cooling his POOL HOUSE.

Right, when something goes down with a conservative, the shit goes on for 6 months. When a liberal gets found out, we're supposed to pretend that it's no big deal. Interesting.

How did Gore get "found out?"

ALERT: MILLIONAIRE OWNS A BIG HOUSE

The significant difference between Gore and most other millionaires is that Gore apparently donates a shit-ton of money each year towards research and the environment

This is retarded. Let's say McCain supports the clubbing of baby seals (a major Republican initiative). It then comes out that he has a totally humane baby seal zoo in his back yard, where none of the seals are clubbed whatsoever. But he still goes out and clubs like a million seals a day just to make up for it. He's still being a good Republican.

funny people think i have misrepresented gore's views and then the example is something about a mud hut...I think you're getting my words confused with words that people like Boone have put in my mouth, hence why I asked for an example, not a blanket generalization that is not represetative of my actual views...theres a big difference in living in a "mud hut" and having amenities like a heated pool in the south or a private jet you take around the world

i just think its funny that there are still people who dont understand why Gore is a big hypocrite

funny, almost every multi-millionaire I personally know is all about conservation and protecting this earth

I've got a funny feeling that you must not know any millionaires or you just assume that every millionaire lives in Malibu or Marthas Vineyard...

sarijoul said what I was going to say

Sounds like a smart man if he can profit from the green wave.

This is a more "damning" bit of that blog post if you ask me

Quote :
" The intended goal of carbon offsets is to combat global warming. The appeal of becoming "carbon neutral" has contributed to the growth of voluntary offsets, which often are a more cost-effective alternative to reducing one's own fossil-fuel consumption. However, the actual amount of carbon reduction (if any) from an offset project is difficult to measure, largely unregulated, and vulnerable to misrepresentation.

Did you get that? Carbon offsets are an "alternative to reducing one's own fossil-fuel consumption" and yet "the actual amount of carbon reduction (if any) from an offset project is difficult to measure, largely unregulated, and vulnerable to misrepresentation.""

i heard a story the other day about an independent firm who provided an audit of sorts of the different carbon offset companies out there.

the main thing they found was that the companies WERE trying to do right. the main problem is that there are no standards for what one kWh translates to in carbon offsets, so the different companies varied widely in what they did per kWh offset.
