Eklund has an Edmonton deal for an Eastern power forward at e5. Saying it is either Cole or Jokinen. would be pretty sweet if they lifted jokinen from the division.

Maybe I would put a little more faith in Eklund if he actually spelled players names right.

Or ever got anything right.

So I'm just getting around to watching Smackdown from last night, and someone at ringside has a sign that says:

"Rutherford did openly admit he was looking for a defenseman -- and close to a deal.

"We've got something going on right now," Rutherford said. "It's kind of a time-frame thing whether it's going to happen or not. We're working on maybe changing up the mix of our defense. That might be a possibility.""

Quote :
""If something was going to happen in a trade such as what I was suggesting we're working on, it would probably happen in the next few days," he said."

On Babchuk:

Quote :
""We'll leave him in Russia," Rutherford said. "He's a defected player, and he can stay there and we'll keep his rights.""

Quote :
"EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jim Matheson reports the Hurricanes are talking with the Philadelphia Flyers regarding a possible trade of defenceman Joni Pitkanen. Matheson speculated the Flyers might be interested in Niclas Wallin or Mike Commodore in return."

Come on Nic wave your NTC plz.

Nic Wallin is a rock back on defense He is our best defensive defensman. Never messes up aexcept that one time when he put the puck in his own net

from the philadelphia inquirer...
Quote :
"The Flyers tried to move defenseman Joni Pitkanen and held several trade conversations. According to multiple club executives, they left the draft with a three-way trade possibility with Edmonton and Carolina. In that deal, Pitkanen would go to Carolina, the Hurricanes' Erik Cole to Edmonton and the Oilers' Raffi Torres to the Flyers.

Wallin is 31 and is a solid and affordable defenseman but Gleason is 24 with 2 1/2 NHL seasons under his belt, he is only going to get better. Wallin is clearly the more expendable of the two

Yeah, I like Timmy more than I like Wallin, honestly.

But for Pitkanen, I could stand the loss of Gleason, but clearly he isn't on the block right now.

a cheap FA that would at the very least be a reserve forward for us would be Jeff Hamilton. He is 5'11 and is 29. He has been the leading scorer in the AHL in 03-04 and put up 18G 21A last season for Chicago getting an avg 12 minutes a game. At best he is the 3rd line center we need if we miss on white

and that's where you lose, we're in this to win, not trade palyers based on newness. therooster hit on everything perfectly... he's good and only going to get better.

you remind me of apkaufma... after the lockout he was screaming brind'amour needed to be bought out and that rutherford was moron, etc... then brind'amour was named captain (and is one of the most respected in the league), won a Stanley Cup, and won two consecutive selke trophies. i rubbed that shit in his face.

so, do we make a move today, or does rutherford wait and see what happens? i'd love to see a todd white or mike comrie signed today. anything that gets letowski out of the lineup would be great

some of the $$$ thats going to be thrown at 2nd tier FAs is going to make me sick. The N&O was talking about the Canes going after Handzus, but he wants $4 mil/yr. No way is he worth that kind of $$.

Todd White to Atlanta for 4 years at $9.5 mil.

I don't know if we would have given him that many years, but we definitely could have given that much money.

Not a rumor anymore.

We signed him. $800k a year for 2 years. Shit I don't mind this honestly. He's an under the radar guy but he scored 39 points in 70 games for a shitty Blackhawks team last year.

This leaves us with $1.5 million under Rutherford's budget, so there's more to come on the free agent or trade front.

July 1, 2007
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (TICKER) -- The Carolina Hurricanes took a step toward returning to the playoffs Sunday, agreeing to terms with center Jeff Hamilton on a two-year, $1.6 million contract.

The Stanley Cup champions in 2006, the Hurricanes failed to qualify for the postseason this past campaign.

ahahahahaha a step toward returning to the playoffs with signing hamilton hahahahahahahahah

a step towards last place more like it. this is gonna be you guys' premiere free agent.

I laughed at that too, but just because some idiot blurb writer wrote some dumb tagline doesn't mean this was a terrible signing. They needed a third line center and got one cheap, and now still have money to work on a defenseman. Possibly Brad Stuart. They didn't miss the playoffs because they didn't have the talent.
