One of my favorite shows...
But I'm concerned about how well it'll translate to a movie -- the 3rd season wasn't as good as the first 2 IMO because they knew they were finished so they were just trying to fit in as many jokes and crazy shit as possible.
With that said, hell yes... I can't wait for this. 11/12/2008 8:59:22 AM |

From Comedy Central Insider(?):
Quote : | "A few days ago, Fancast talked to Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz, who had news on the Arrested Development movie front.
So what of the rumors that new dad Will Arnett and shiny movie star Michael Cera are the only two remaining holdouts?
"I don’t want to talk about who is holding out right now because we might still work that out and I don’t want to pressure anyone through the press," said Hurwitz. "Although I will say that Will Arnett is gung-ho, so there’s a big clue!"
Not exactly a subtle hint. In fact, it basically confirms that Michael Cera is not on board for the film, which is sad considering the fact that his character plays such a huge role in the family dynamic. There was further speculation on the subject matter of the film...
"I think in some respect it would have to pick up where the show left off," he said. "Maybe the benefit of that would be, if nothing else, just to recap everything..."
"I’ve also been playing with the idea of doing a prequel for a while, which could be kind of interesting," Hurwitz said.
Now, Will Arnett is telling Entertainment Weekly he is definitely in for the film.
Will Arnett is ready to reunite. "Arrested Development has such a special place in my heart,” he tells EW.com, “and I can't wait to strap that fake hand back on and fight the seal once and for all—wait, which guy did I play?"
You know what? Feeding off these little scraps of speculation isn't as fun as it used to be. Can they just make the movie already so I can stop stressing out about it. Come on!" |

They should just bring in a Michael Cera doppelganger, and not make any reference to it. Well, maybe a brady bunch Jan reference. Now that would be funny.

There were different Martas and different Eggs, so there can be different George Michaels.
Hell, get GEORGE MICHAEL to play George Michael. In the first scene he can face the camera, say, "See, you ruined it," walk off screen, and then they'll throw up a card that says "George Michael died on the way back to his home planet." 1/5/2009 1:53:35 PM |

What producers are going to sign up for a guaranteed failure? It's pretty clear that the only people who are going to watch or enjoy this movie are the 20 people who watched the show. 1/6/2009 2:56:48 AM |

The fact that the 3 season box set that came out 2years ago is the 7th best selling selling DVD in the TV show category for any show in the past 10 years on Amazon begs to differ with your idea that only 20 people watched it.
According to Amazon, only John Adams, The Office, Band of Brothers, Planet Earth, and Battlestar Galactica have outsold the 3 season box set (based on any tv shows or miniseries that were released on DVD that aired from 2000 to now)

So, you picked a random statistic and used it to conclude that AD would do well oat the box office. How about lets go with the obvious: Amazon.com sales rank is not a good predictor of box office success.
Anyone remember Firefly? They went ahead with the movie because of great dvd sales. It was constantly in Amazon's top 20 DVD sales. Movie bombed.
Amazon dvd sales don't mean jack shit. 1/6/2009 9:14:23 AM |

it may bomb but that doesn't mean they shouldn't make it because I'm one of the 20 fans...
I agree with you that it probably won't be a success at the box office which is why if Cera's not involved, it probably won't get done, considering he's really the only cast member with recent success. People actually recognize him now and a non-AD movie-goer might check it out just for him... what other actors on the show are like that? Jason Bateman? LOL 1/6/2009 9:19:52 AM |

reading comprehension much? I didnt pick some stat to conclude that AD would automatically do well at the box boffice. I didnt even say that the movie would be a huge blockbuster success period.

Most of the cast is B or C list celebrities.
Jason Bateman was in Juno and some movie with Zach Braff that I can't remember. Will Arnett did some guest spots (I just saw him on an old 30 Rock episode pretty much playing a gay version of Gob) and was in that Will Ferrell skater movie. Cera has been in successful movies, but I don't think he is a "box office draw". Portia is that chick who married Ellen 1/6/2009 12:42:07 PM |
