Steam has achievements now?

i didnt know about the achievements until you guys started talking about it. checked it out and i have 41%

only 3/9 on head of the class though. i dont see that as much of an accomplishment... if we need a medic more than whatever i'm playing, i'll switch to medic.

Golvoko - Steam doesn't, TF2 does though....just like the 360 achievements.

If steam had em, that'd be cool, they should license that from MS if that's even a patent. Makes you want to explore every nook and cranny of a game, and where points and scores MATTER! Love em.

yeah, as pointless as achievements are, I've found that I'm always trying to get them haha. Keeps me playing a little longer and makes me take my time in a game.

just d/led it last night. Only got to play for about 10 minutes this morning, but I am digging it already. Any beginner tutorial sites out there so I can speed up the learning curve? I don't even know half the weapons/capabilities of the classes.

That's your call but a lot of people think TF2 alone is worth the $50 or whatever it costs now...

and Portal is pretty cool except that it is so damn short.

I'd have paid $50 just for the song at the end of Portal. Worth every penny.

Although, you really don't need a guide. Everything is extremely intuitive and you'll "know your role" with every class, so to speak, almost immediately.

I played Portal all night after it first came out. My wife was up pulling an all nighter on here genetics paper. She got the chance to see me beat the game that night and mentioned that she loved the song. Though she knows nothing about HL2 or Black Mesa.

My reaction to the game thus far is that it is fun. Perhaps more fun the other shooters on XBOX. But so far it isn't as fun as the old TFC. I feel a bit handcfuffed with all the stuff they took away. Getting rid of grenades to eliminate spammy explosions is fine, but then when you take away friendly fire and let players run through one another, it encourages firing indiscriminately anyway.

Demomen can kill sentries pretty good; as can soldier, heavy, and of course spy. I've also had my sentry sniped to death.

how do you take down the turrets as a spy? i see people getitng them while cloaked, but I don't get it.

and you gotta love demomen and soldiers who know what the fuck they doing during prep time when they have a medic attached to them. one minute is plenty of time to get an uber charged

^^one of the choices as spy is the electro sapper. drop them over all the engie's shit and it breaks them.

My fav as a spy is to put a disguise on for the other team... cloak my way past the open middle areas and then find a corner to uncloak. By then, I am on the other side and I run around wreaking havoc. Spies are too easy to find when you run out from your team's side as the other team.

well durrrr, that is basic strategy for spies, they aren't made to do much else besides break up an assault from behind by taking out near-uber medic teams and dropping heavies... Nothing is more satisfying than dropping a heavy who is indiscriminately mowing down your team. Well aside from tracking down an enemy spy and taking him out before he even knows what hit him. And here's a hint, never disguise as a scout because the spy-scout does not run as fast as a real scout and I find it easy to pick out.

And i find the engineer voice saying "there's a spy sapping my sentry" hilarious...
