well my definition of ballsy must be different from yours
95% of coaches in the country would just run the ball between the hashes to line up for a field goal to win the game. Throwing it into the endzone, with the chance that it could be picked off, with minimal time on the clock, is ballsy to me. 10/21/2007 12:36:12 AM |

^^^^ if Flynn would have had to move in the pocket at all, just one little sidestep and then the receiver bobbled it game would have been over
no, I agree that the pass play call was ballsy, but I am saying they could have done that with 10 seconds left and if it didnt work still win the game with a FG

He caught the damn ball with :4 left. They just kept running the clock for another :3. They would have put time back, I guarantee it.
Still a great game. If LSU wants to be in the MNC game though they have to win out. I think they lost at 'Bama personally.. 10/21/2007 12:36:45 AM |

^ there we go
and after seeing the replay again, if he bobbled it the clock could have easily ran out, if the ball was smacked down immediately and the ref stopped the clock immediately there might have been 3 seconds left, but if he spent anytime bobbling it time could have expired

which would include Bama
and the refs dont blow the whistle until the outcome of the play is determined, if the ball was bobbled, and the ref couldnt see who caught it and had to wait on the other ref to make a decision etc they wouldnt have added the time back on, they never do on judgment calls... if it was something like a player stepping out of bounds where it was a well defined point that stopped the clock they might... either way I think they would have had one second left10/21/2007 12:51:48 AM |

ugh, I dont even want to see the Tennessee "high lites"
^ but by letting the clock run down they introduced an additional negative consequence that wasnt needed... aside from an INT and guy catching the ball and running around and letting the clock run out they added the fact that time could have ran out during the actual throw itself

Quote : | "Tennessee fans are understandably pissed. The Vols have now been on the business end of two routs, both at the hands of their biggest SEC rivals, plus they lost their season opener to California. Since the Golden Bears have now lost two in a row, both to unranked teams, any 'luster' of a 'good loss' -- if such a thing exists -- is now gone.
The Vols' biggest win in '07 has been their 35-14 pouding of Georgia. Tough games remain: Arkansas, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. (Don't laugh. Those really will be tough. All of them.)
Losing to Alabama 41-17? That's just not supposed to happen. Not only do the Vols have ownership of this series going back to the early nineties, but you'd think they would field the better team this year. Alabama has found a way to win some games, but they really haven't looked like a complete team all year... not until the Vols rolled into town, anyway.
Sobering fact: the Vols are 6-6 in their last 12 games. The losses came to good teams. In 2006, there were back-to-back losses to #13 LSU and #11 Arkansas, plus a bowl loss to #24 Penn State.
In 2007, a 45-31 loss to #12 California and humiliating losses to #5 Florida and unranked Alabama have set the stage for another possible 5-loss season.
Losing to good teams isn't necessarily a crime -- unless you consider your team among the nation's elite. And make no mistake about it, Tennessee fans expect the best out of their Volunteers.
Vanderbilt. Kentucky. Southern Miss. Arkansas State. #12 Georgia. Mississippi State.
Those are Tennessee's victories going back to November 4, 2006.
Not a rosy picture.
When you look all the way back to 2005, the picture becomes positively putrid. The Vols went 5-6 that year and didn't even get a chance to contribute to Fulmer's bowl record in this millenium.
So how hot is Phil Fulmer's hotseat now?
From the VolQuest message board:
Volsteve: Hamilton is going to have to convince Phil to be a team player and to work with him through the transition. I hope Phil will see that it's best for the UT program that he step down. He had a great run but we need some new blood to get us back into the elite...
JoeVols: Fulmer will NOT gracefully bow out. He'll force the regime to fire him.
give_him 6: Just throwing out some coaching names to replace Fulmer.... Greg Schiano... Rich Rodriguez... Butch Davis... Bo Pelini... Mike Leach.. Jon Gruden...
go47: Talking heads say we can't afford to buyout Phil and that the more likley scenario is staff changes again. My concern is this may be close to the truth. I also "fear" that those changes will keep Chavis around.
Sounds an awful lot like the Tennessee faithful have already decided a divorce from Fulmer and what they call his "Good Ol' Boy club" is the only thing that will make them happy. " |
