Just a few observations...
1. I guess the old adage about matching up well with certain teams and just having their number really does hold true. Seeing that burnt orange and maroon makes me . They are one of the few teams I feel good about us playing.
2. Gavin Grant is finally close to the player I thought he would be when I heard Jules had managed to get a guy from his high school come down. He is a leader and a go to guy. Playing so much at the point last year with all of the injuries tainted many of our opinions about him but he was def. outta position. His swagger makes you love him if he's on your team but he is the type of player you hate if he's in the other uniform.
3. Javi has improved but he still makes a shotty pass when he has the jumper and the shot clock is winding down. With 2 seconds on the shot clock he needs to think shoot first!
4. The defense in the first half was swarming and incredible. We still need to have that kind of consistency for 40 minutes though.

we are back in the hunt. seriously, those were 2 must win games. i dont care how u look at it, we HAD to win and we did. that is big for us. javi is maturing before our eyes and we are meshing as a team.

Our poor play started at the end of the first half.

It's pretty easy to call -- we were making an unusually high percentage of shots in the first half, but we were still making the same dumbass mistakes in other areas. Not handling the double team, turnovers, etc.

Assuming that the anomalous shooting would come down and the VT would pick it up, then it's easy to see how the game would be a dogfight in the second half.

Costner's play didn't magically pick up during the ACC tourney last year...he was beginning to shine as early as late November. He just didn't get noticed nationally until we made that run.

Yeah, we saw a different defense in the first half against duke, and again here tonight at times...

I think they are finally catching on and "gel"ing as they should. Luckily, our record in the ACC is with our hardest 3 road games behind us, and some really good chances coming up here to push to the top 3 of the ACC.

Javi is finally getting used to ACC play I think, and figuring out his role is just to be solid fundamentally and prepared for quick decision situations. Obviously, the freshman has room to grow, but I think he can handle the point for the next few years if he continues to improve at the pace he is currently.

When I was lining up for Fast Fight tonight, I was right behind four NBA scouts. I know that one was from the Miami Heat, but I don't know about the others. Anyways, the Miami guy had a lot written about Hickson, but I couldn't tell what it said. However, another scout was typing an email into his Blackberry that basically said "Hickson is a good freshman, but he is not good for us. He does not shoot anything outside the paint."

All I could think was how this must be the only time he has ever watched Hickson. If the scouts didn't have earplugs in I would've told them they can have Hickson in a few years, but he's ours for now.

At least the scouts aren't rabid over him.

we played good D in the first half, but god damn 22 turnovers. Thats gotta stop. We cut the turnovers down and play the rest of the season like we did tonight, I like our chances.
