the lesson is don't jump the gun and panic over a rumor until you see something official. all we had was a thread and facebook group to go by and it was all resolved before any official announcement was ever made. thus it never happened.
just like i was saying the whole time 2/8/2008 12:03:15 PM |

You realize the "panic" as you call it was the main reason Stafford backed down right? Starting at about 7:00pm people starting blowing up phone lines and bombing email boxes... 2/8/2008 12:10:18 PM |

Quote : | "Student Body President Bobby Mills has decided along with Tom Stafford Vice Chancellor of Student affairs that only about 1450 tickets will be used for campout. Those tickets will THEN be placed in a lottery with the names from campout. you ARE NOT guaranteed a ticket by going to campout as originally document by the campus committee that came up with this from Student Government.
the remaining 1450 tickets will be placed in a lottery online for students that DID NOT go to campout.
for those of you that cant do the numbers...you essentially have the SAME chances of getting tickets by attending campout as a person who does not attend." |
Really?
Maybe someone said this already (I skipped straight to reply) or maybe I'm wrong. I'll try to play the role as someone that can do the numbers.
3000 people go to campout. They allot 1500 tickets to that group. You have a 50% chance of getting a ticket.
9000 people sign up online. They allot 1500 tickets to that group. You have a 16 2/3% chance of getting a ticket.
The possibility of the reverse is also true.
3000 people go to campout. They allot 1500 tickets to that group. You have a 50% chance of getting a ticket.
1500 people sign up online. They allot 1500 tickets to that group. You will get a ticket.
I think the second example isn't realistic, but the only way you have the same chance of getting a ticket regardless of whether you go to campout is if the number of people that go to campout is relatively the same as the number of people that sign up online.
If I really wanted to increase my chances I guess I'd do both.

Quick Question.....does everyone in your group HAVE to be there at check in? Someone in my group is gonna make it, and gonna be there for atleast two check ins, but she can't make it for check in. Does that mean she can't get in, or can she just check in when she gets there?? 2/8/2008 12:57:04 PM |

It's my understanding that she can just check in when she gets there. In the e-mail they sent out early this morning they said "Someone from your group must claim your pre-assigned camping spots between 5-7pm on Friday at Lee Field." This leads me to believe only one person from your group needs to be there to check-in initially, and then over half your group has to be there at 8 for the first checkpoints and all subsequent checkpoints. 2/8/2008 1:06:38 PM |

^^really you should be there for all 4 checkpoints and not just do the bare minimum that is needed to get your ticket . So if you are there for all 4, like you SHOULD be, then you will not get screwed out of a ticket for "camping out". It isnt camping out if you are there once at 8pm for the first check, and then 7 am for the final check, while cheesing in your apartment in the meantime. 2/8/2008 1:58:07 PM |

It's a catch 22, though. The admin says "show me the demand", while simultaneously pulling bullshit like this that will inevitably reduce demand.
SFN actually said it very well
Quote : | "NC State continues its rapid DE-evolution into a commuter school with very little social experience or campus life as evidenced by the continued destruction of the traditions that have historically bound generations of alumni from different time periods. We’ve already been guilty of absence as Tom Stafford has almost single-handedly destroyed NC State’s greek system which now sits at about half of the population as it did 15 years ago. And, don’t forget about the tailgating restrictions that Stafford (and crew) swept over alll alums a couple of years ago. Many wonder if Stafford and his institutionalized “fun and fair police” will stop until no student wants to live on campus and until no beer is consumed in any private or public establishment in West Raleigh." |
So if the administration would quit handling tickets (and every other school/social function) like a bunch of monkeys fucking a football, then perhaps the demand would go up.2/8/2008 2:20:43 PM |

More like "Our bottom line does not justify more student tickets at this time." Just kidding. Mostly.
Seriously though, if this is the case then we need to really push for some kind of loyalty reward system. Make people attend a minimum of 5 low-demand games or something to even be eligible for tickets to the high-demand games. That would increase the attendance at games a lot of people normally won't go to and reward people who actually support the team consistently.2/8/2008 4:58:49 PM |

^^ good luck getting that by the Fairness Police -- first argument they're going to make is that a system like that would be "too harsh" for people who were ignorant of the rules
---
jbtilley: tickets would only be going to people signed up for Campout even under Stafford's policy -- so half the tickets would be allotted to the subset of folks who signed up and camped out, and the other half would go to people who signed up and never came. Your odds of getting a ticket are under this scenario are actually better if you *don't* show up to Campout -- basically it was done to intentionally sabotage the event

^2-7 = 5 hours of camp out, which is questionable if they really do deserve a ticket. Also the purpose of getting the checkpoints in before 2 was so that people could actually sleep and not be forced to get up randomly just to say that they are there. Lastly, there is a check point after 3am...it's at 7. 2/9/2008 5:10:59 AM |

^ The 7a checkpoint was at 6a, and they didn't check off your names. Only that your group had more than half present...
8p, 11:30p, and 2a were the only checkpoints in which they checked your id and did a "present" count
The beginning of it felt like a damn refugee camp, they were throwing out JJ subs and the long lines of people to get in (around 6:45, they died down). Not as good as two years ago... But still was good to do it.

most likely they're trying to figure out who gets tickets. luckily everyone who camped out should get tickets. At about 4:30am I was told that we were at least 50 tickets under the designated allotment and there's probably even more since I'm sure that at least one group lost theirs for acting like a bunch of drunken idiots around 4:00.
And the system was poorly organized. There were a couple lines going in and after I made it through one, I was told that group leaders had to to go the front entrance. Get in and all they did was stamp my hand and ask for unity id. Then to check if the group was there, the entire group had to go to one of 3 people with laptops and say "here" as the person went through the list of people in that group. No scanners or verification that the person was actually there. All they had was a spreadsheet with the group leader's unity id and the member's ids and would mark a 1 beside the people who said they were there. They're probably still trying to tie all of it together.

For the amount of time they had to organize it I think they did pretty well. Coming into the gates you had to get handstamped, and then after that people without a stamp couldn't get in as far as I know. I came through the sullivan lot entrance and they didn't check my ID at all. When I went for the checkins it was different each time, the first was she called out our unity ID and we had to show our student ID to her. Second time we gave her our unity ID and she checked us off, and the third we just said 'here' when called our ID.

Agreed. Especially with all the space they setup for the projector and the "stage", they didn't need 1/3 of that space. And people passing the footballs and everything could have done that in the strip between Lee Field and Lee Hall.
I originally was thinking each group got 10'x10', and I thought space would not be a problem. Not split up between 4 "campsites". We barely had enough room for a 2-sleeper tent and a table.
With that said, it could have been a lot worse. The fraternity chantings every hour got annoying as hell, but at least it wasn't raining.2/9/2008 3:09:39 PM |

ha, we were over in the corner by the entrance closest to lee on the sullivan drive side. It was pretty eventful around 4. Drunken frat guy was walking around their campsite and accidentally tripped over one of the tents causing it to collapse which pissed off the girl inside. Then the guy dropped a chair on one of the other tents and threw a football at another. Another guy managed to piss in a trash can and had to clean it out. Needless to say a girl got pissed and sent the cops over. Also two drunk guys decided to take of the job of monitoring the gate by us and almost had us in tears from laughing so hard. We tried to get them to stamp someone's forehead but they didn't. It was also funny seeing Sarah Yasin chase after people who were trying to sneak though the gate.
