^ i thought it was better than all the xmen movies, but then again, i thought all of them were pretty shitty and uneventful to begin with. this movie was good, but every time they did something that was completely different from the comics, i was pretty annoyed

*** spoiler (i guess) ***

i saw a different ending in apex... but it was pretty lame. it was just wolverine taking shots at a bar and talking to a female bartender

maybe since i have never read the comics i didn't understand the significance but it didn't really seem like the cliffhanger secret ending i was waiting for

******

what other endings did people see?

i saw one ending where some soldiers find the colonel walking on the road and tell him that he's being arrested for the murder of that other colonel

also saw one where weapon 11 survives... reaching out from under the rubble and grabbing his head. what a lame, predictable ending

about half way through the credits they stop striker and tell him he's wanted for questioning, then at the end they show deadpool still alive. that's pretty much it.

I thought it was a pretty good entertaining movie. It was no Iron Man, but it wasn't Daredevil either.

Deadpool having his mouth sewn shut was a travesty though. It's not deadpool unless he can crack wise while he's killing people.

Pretty shitty movie. I liked the motorcycle chase, except for that stupid part where he sparks the fire. Otherwise, pretty bad.

I went in with low expectations based on leaked copies and reviews I heard. Grew up reading the comics, so I would have seen the movie regardless just to see how they would interpret the story. I thought it was a solid 6.5 out of 10. Not the best movie I've seen, but it could have been a lot worse IMO (see either of the Fantastic Four movies...hard to watch they are so bad) I didn't find this very "realistic" like the feel the first 2 Xmen movies had in regards to powers and abilities in a real world setting but I thought the story really shed some light on Logan/Wolverine as a character who has a heart, albeit a cold one after all the shit he goes through.

I also bought into the "brothers love" portion of the story line, and it showed such a better aspect of wolverines relationship with Sabretooth than either of the Xmen films provided. They aren't just strangers, and in the comics Wolverine knows shares a strong bit of what he hates in Sabretooth. I don't know, the story in that aspect really worked for me and anyone who watched the saturday morning cartoon, every wolverine/sabretooth scene reminded me of when Wolverine goes to Alaska and hangs with the Eskimos and Sabretooth shows up and starts wrecking them, all because they are friends of Wolverines. Something about that portrayal in the movie really felt familiar to that old rivalry they had from the books/cartoon series.

I felt Hugh Jackman did a good job in a movie that had holes in the story, some poor acting/writing of supporting characters (see Gambit) and was way over the top in some action scenes (hey, its a comicbook movie)...overall I wouldnt recommend to just anyone, but I would recommend to anyone who was a fan and knowledgeable and appreciative of the history of Xmen.

Lemme try again

A good fan will appreciate what they've done with showing the Sabertooth-Wolverine relationship...although the whole half brother thing is certainly taking it in a different direction.

I'm not sure that they portrayed Wolverine as a no bullshit killer with morals, though they got kinda close.

Apart from those two relatively small aspects, an X-Men fan will not like this movie at all. Their treatment of the other characters is just atrocious and bleeds out into destroying other X-Men stories. Try building an appreciable Gambit-Rogue love/hate story when Gambit is 30+ and Rogue is 20. (insert TWW joke here). Plus, the whole Deadpool thing...god awful.

Word on the street is that Marvel hates the movie.

Wow. So the movie is completely terrible but it's sounding like they knew it was going to flop so they made about 5 different endings to ensure that the fans would see it multiple times (to catch all the endings).

As someone who collects a lot of the x-men comic out there other than stuff focused around Wolverine (although he is still a character in almost everything, just not the main character in what I collect), I enjoyed the movie... maybe because I had less specific expectations.

But any time I watch a comic book movie I go into it with the mindset as I would with the characters being realized in a new universe (like the main one in marvel vs the ultimate universe vs all the other ones out there) such that my expectations of the characters are much more generalized and that doing them or the story differently doesn't mean doing them wrong.

X2 is still the best in the X-Men movies in my opinion, but I'm hoping they are still thinking of doing a Magneto movie.

My rating for X Movies go best to worst:
X2
X1
X3
Wolverine (but I still enjoyed it & will still buy it when it comes out)

And though I'm not usually as much a fan of Wolverine centered, the Wolverine & the X-men Animated Series that just released a dvd was much better than I expected.

Saw this last night at Crossroads and a small fight broke out in the theater during the Canadian logging scenes. Couldn't tell exactly what was going on, but everybody in the theater got pissed and lots of people ran out because they thought someone was going to draw a weapon. Police were called and the whole thing was broken up about 10 minutes later. Because of this, management gave everybody a free movie pass. Good thing, because I did not like this one bit, and I have been a long time X-Men reader. Gambit was completely superfluous, and Cyclops shouldn't have been in it at all. Deadpool was what I'd consider Marvel's single biggest missed movie opportunity to date. The writers didn't explore at all the absolute mental and physical torture of the Weapon X program, and it really irritated me that the program somehow has the ability to steal mutants' powers and just splice them into another body. Ugh. I guess I was just hoping for more from this movie. I liked X3 much better than this, and that still surprises me.

IMDB has this at 87 million already this weekend. Not too shabby for a film that leaked early.

Ha! I noticed this as well, but it reminded me of quite a few times they used this in the cartoon series and the comics. Most of the frames I remember it from though Wolverine is driving that classic, open top, JEEP (yellow?) though, have to admit I was disappointed they didn't give him that for the movie, would have been a nice touch....but I agree that it was very noticeable common shot they were doing a lot.

One point: Wolverine has super strength, I think the lumberjack scenes would have been a great chance for them to show his strength dragging or carrying some larger trunks in comparison to some of the other work crew members. As I recall, there was usually an issue with him being stronger than other guys he "worked" next to, usually followed by a confrontation, followed by him avoiding the opportunity to wreck some smart ass humans world, then everyone appreciating his ability to work harder since he didn't need to take breaks or slack off what he could do to get the job done faster. Adding this would have better portrayed the fact that his claws are sharp as shit, but he also is MUCH stronger than everyone else, so they are going to cut objects easier.

Good movie, not great movie. Will watch again.

enjoyed most of it, but the writing for gambit was bad, and cyclops served no purpose whatsoever.

overall, im the most disappointed in their interpretation of deadpool. So much potential and they sewed his mouth shut because they were too lazy to write a decent script.

2.5*.

I'm all about suspending disbelief, but this movie has to take place in the 80's right? for Scott Summers to be in his 30's in the new movies.

Wolverine's girlfriend should've had some poofed out hair. the movie hardly looked like the 80's at all. I think it's lame when a movie takes place in another decade but the clothes/hair are clearly today's style

I can't tell if you're joking or not, but walking away from a large explosion is one of the cheesiest, most overdone action movie shots of all.

Other dumb cliches this movie used:

Looking up into the sky and yelling after someone dies (twice!)
Someone showing up unexpected at just the right moment and saying "Miss me?"
Having one person reach his hand down to help up a former enemy and then the enemy pausing for emphasis then taking his hand

Haven't seen this, but bigger than Venom? I mean even non-comic book nerds have some concept of Venom. Of course the series would need a massive reboot to ever treat that character right. Probably the same case for Deadpool according to what everyone is saying.

OK, good point. I guess the difference for me is that I could definitely see Deadpool being a movie-viable character since he could be reasonably explained within a movie's time limit. Venom is another much more problematic character altogether. Also, Deadpool could be a good stand-alone character which could potentially be explained without having to go into any significant relationships with other characters. (True, Wolverine and Deadpool had both been part of Weapon Plus, but neither one is critical to each other's origin.) Spider Man is pivotal in Venom's creation, so this is another big hurdle.

Silver Fox also did the "I'm so cold" think when she was dying at the very end.

Wow fuck this shit. Marvel sold out long time ago and now we're fucked for a while. The least they can do is get a script that is true to the comics. A good director would be nice too, but as long as they stay true to the comics I don't see how they could fuck up.

They did sell out, and in the process made enough $$ to start making their own movies, which have been pretty damn good so far (Iron Man & The Hulk).

So it was probably worth it.

^what trend? aside from this and the spirit (which i avoided) the most recent "superhero" movies seemed pretty good. i'm not sure i'd count Watchmen as a superhero movie, but last year's Iron Man, Hulk, and Dark Knight were all pretty good.

IMO i thought this movie was alright, a little bland... but they did have to appeal to a very broad audience, much of which is probably just a fan of Jackman's Wolverine. here's hopeing the Magneto movie will be better.
