Lebrons was statistically better but I watched both games and I was more impressed with Kobe's hot hand on monday.

Lebron was a man-child last night though. I cant wait for Sunday KOBE vs LEBRON

Well Scottie Pippen was one of the most overrated players in NBA history

even so, Cleveland's current cast of supporting players is pretty close to what Chicago had with Jordan during the first three titles in terms of overall talent

^If they added a Vince Carter to the Cavs...then that would kind of make up for not having a Scottie Pippen.

The Bulls always had a sharpshooter (Hodges, Armstrong, Paxon, Kerr). Lebron has a few of those with Gibson, West, and Wally. And both teams have serviceable big men that don't suck, but would pretty much be horrible anywhere else they went if they didn't play with guys like Jordon and Lebron.

I think Cartwright, Wennington and Purdue were worse than Varejao, Illgauskas, Wallace and Hickson

Longley was better, but he didn't come till the second 3peat iirc

(I also think Toni Kukoc was as underrated as Pippen was overrated...they probably still win at least 2 titles from 96-98 without him, but he made it so much easier for everyone else)

Kukoc was the man. I don't know if they win those titles without him (well, unless they put someone pretty close to his abilities in his spot).

It's tough with the big men. Big Z is probably better than any of Chicago's big men. Wallace is absolutely horrible. He gives you nothing on the offensive end except for offensive boards (and he's almost a shell of his former defensive self with the Pistons).

Anderson is playing a lot better this year than he has in the past. Before this year he was like a glorified Wallace...or Joakim Noah 5 years in the future. Shit...JJ Hickson might end up being one of the better bigs in Cleveland a few years down the road.

Luc Longly was good...Brian Williams had some skill. Perdue and Wennington were garbage...but they knew their role and played it perfectly. And back in those days you didn't have to worry about guarding 7-footers who stepped out and hit 18 footers or could beat you down the court on a breaks. And Cartwright was pretty solid in his earlier years. Basketball was a little different back then.

The teams are very similar. One big difference is the bulls had Phil

It was more boring back then, before they got rid of the archaic illegal defense rules that basically made the game all about isolation. Put 4 dudes on one side of the floor and let your best dude go one on one with his defender. The Knicks and Heat series were the worst of this. They played every year in the playoffs for like 5 years straight, and every game was like 81-76. They finally came to there senses after Jordan left and made it more of a free flowing team game like it was in the 80's.

Cartwright served his purpose, which was to rebound and block the occasional shot while staying the fuck out of the way on offense. Jordan and Pippen didn't need their big men to score because of the rules back then...no one could guard them one on one. In 2009, you need the bigs to be able to step out and hit the 15 footer because you can't rely on your superstar every possession when he's getting double and triple teamed. If Lebron played ten years ago, he wouldn't average more than 5 assists a game.

Good start to the game tonight, hopefully it will be a great finish. Powell playing some big minutes so far with Odom in foul trouble, lets see what he can do with Bynum out indefinitely. Go Powell & the Lakers.

Great game so far tonight. Lakers up 1 with about 45 seconds left...Celtics ball.

Kobe just hit a DAGGER three to put the Lakers up 1. Pierce was all in his face. The man is clutch.

I hate Gasol now.

All that guy does is bitch when he doesn't get the call and make the WORST faces when he does something good. He tries to be a bad ass so hard...but will never pull it off.

he's a lot better player when bynum or any other big/legit center is out there...gasol is tall but he's better getting the ball 13 feet out on the wing for the faceup...thats what he did in memphis and his stats were incredible

And even though they lost...Paul Pierce's defense on Kobe at the end and in overtime was superb. I don't think I've ever seen someone play him that tight. I also think he gets a little superstar treatment on the defensive side in that they allow him to be a little more physical than the average Joe that usually gets stuck with defending him.

it seems like you can play as good of defense as you want against kobe in late game situations, and he just knocks down shots anyway

Last nights game was probably the leauge's best so far this season.

Kobe's 3s were DAGGERS!!!!

I dont know if the Lakers would have pulled that one out had KG not fouled out

LeBron lost his triple double in MSG as one of his rebounds has been credited over to Ben Wallace. I'm a little surprised the NBA puts in that much effort on statistics.

^I was wondering about that. Because I was following the stats on Yahoo! (have two Knicks on my Fantasy team), and he went from having 8 rebounds to 10 rebounds really quick. I was a little confused.

Well, he got them both in under a minute. They took away one and gave it to Wallace since he grabbed it with one hand first.

Ton of shit going on in the NBA this week (some things already mentioned...some not):

- Elton Brand out for the year. He's got a few years left to prove whether or not that was a horrible move by the 76ers...but even when he was healthy, he had a tough time fitting in with their style of play.

- Nelson maybe out out for the year?? This kinda sucks, because the Magic were looking like legit contenders, and A LOT had to do with his All-Star play.

- Trade deadline approaching. Are the Suns that serious about getting ride of Amare (he played with some passion last night...stuff he's been missing all year)?? Lots of names being put on the blocks. Will Cleveland try and make a big move? Will Boston go for a backup PG (even with House playing so well...he's still just a gunner)? Will the Magic make a move for a PG? Been lots of big moves the past few years...but I have a feeling this trade deadline might just bring about a few small trades...could be wrong. Will the Heat shop Marion...for Jermaine O'neal maybe?

- Andrew Bogut out for the year (really only relevant to me because he was a main cog in my fantasy team)

Some people don't go to the espn and cnnsi nba page first thing in the morning and might get some of their NBA news from this thread. But thanks anyways.

^maybe not first thing in the morning, but if they're interested enough in the NBA to frequent this thread, they've likely heard news from 4 days ago (old enough to where the trade between the magic & bucks is a few days old by now)

keep up the reporting though
