Good to see Beltran rip in to the team after the game yesterday. He's been the best player on the team all year and he had a nasty flu, lost 10 pounds, and still looked like the only guy who wanted to be out there playing yesterday. Props to him for finally becoming a good leader and doing it by both word and action.

It's pretty obvious at this point that David Wright is a pussy and is too worried about his image and people liking him to say what needs to be said.

Also, I'm open to signing Glavine to replace Tim Redding at this point. He will certainly have a chip on his shoulder after the way the Braves treated him and I'm sure he would want nothing more than to stick it to them and make up for the way he left the team. Say what you want about his comments after the last game in 2007, but you don't win 305 games without being ultra-competitive.

Glavine was a great role model for the younger players while he was with the Mets, and he brings nothing but good attitude to the clubhouse. Put his locker next to Wright, have him talk Wright's ear off about leadership and responsibility, and I think we'll see some great changes.

So the past 12 games, against Washington, Florida, and Pit, should have been better than a 7-5 record. I don't know what the hell happened against the Pirates but this is going to be a brutal month with the Phils, Yankees, Rays, Cardinals, and Brewers. We get a 3 game break against the Orioles.

We started the weekend down 4 games to the Phillies, and finish the weekend down 3 games to the Phillies.

We really need to win this upcoming series against the Phillies. Worst case, we win at least the Johan game, but it would be great to sweep to tie it up.

Observations from DC this weekend:
- Maine is back on DL - pitched like crap and it's b/c his shoulder is hurt
- Wright had a great hitting weekend, but shitty base running
- F-Mart looks promising - clutch hits when we needed them
- Bullpen rotation looks really good with Parnell as the 8th inning man
- We have so many injuries and lineup changes, our team is lacking an identity
- Nationals sucks... like no joke... there were more Mets fans each game (Friday saw mybe 10K fans total)

That's a bit lenient considering he has allowed 3+ earned runs in 4 of his last 5 starts

He had no earned runs in 4 of his first 7 starts, and he didn't allow more than 2 in each of the other 3 starts

No worries at all. It's just normal statistical correction. He wasn't gonna have a 0.75 ERA all year long.

He invariably has a better 2nd half than 1st half over his entire career. Basically, an 8-3 2.39 ERA start bodes VERY well for his Cy Young chances.

As far as last night, he was wound up so tight he hung some pitches. I thought he was going to kill Manuel in the 8th when he took him out. Guy is a gladiator out there...
