no, I can reasonably say i've probably been to more schools' football games than you have, and while season tickets get sold out, one stadium is always full, and one isn't...

who gives a fuck if the tickets get sold... Carter-Finley always has been, and probably always will be, a bigger crowd than Kenan, unless Butch finds a way to win the ACC consistently... or basketball falls off...

i've seriously seen the crowd leave a game against Maryland when it was within 4 points to go see an exhibition basketball game... stfu

Quote :
"As we hit the mid-week mark of the second week of Tennessee's search for a new football coach, the question is where do things stand and what is going on.

As we have said for several days, Tennessee is still sorting out who is realistic and who is not. The names we keep continuing to hear consistently are:

Mike Leach, Texas Tech
Brian Kelly, Cincinnati
Lane Kiffin, unemployed
Will Muschamp, Texas defensive coordinator

Now that by no means is a final four at all, but those are the names that have been consistent since the thought of Phillip Fulmer not returning became reality.

There are certainly others in the hat so to speak. A guy like Tim Brewster as well as a longshot like Troy Calhoun.

Those helping Hamilton all have their opinions on guys and some like one guy more than the other as every candidate has pros and cons. But we don't feel there is any kind of true pecking order yet. One of the elements to this is not only who the head coach is, but what kind of staff can that coach assemble.

So what about Butch Davis who has denied interest, but not completely publicly ended things? We don't feel like Davis is going to end up at Tennessee. He is comfortable at Chapel Hill and has told friends of his that he is not interested in going anywhere.

Obviously, coaching changes are fluid and things could certainly change, but right now, we don't see Davis coming to Knoxville.

I had mentioned in a post the other night that Bill Cowher had reportedly been someone receptive to a phone call, but as the sorting out process of who's real and who's not has continued this week, we put Cowher in the not real category which is obviously no surprise.

By the way both, Kiffin and Muschamp are in play at Clemson; further the Tigers appear to be a few weeks ahead of Tennessee in terms of being close to a decision.

Mike Hamilton was not in the office most of Tuesday; Hamilton was in the research triangle (Raliegh/Durham) area of North Carolina. The word is that Hamilton was on a couple of college campuses but was not there for anything related to the job search before he spoke to a UT Alumni Chapter Tuesday night in Raleigh.

I know is might seem like Tennessee is not getting much done on the search, but I believe they are moving forward pretty well with their background gathering information and I am not convinced that they might not have had some preliminary chats with a few folks. But nothing I would call "formal" at this point. Obviously, they could interview Kiffin at any time. I don't think that has happened yet.

While all of this is going on, the current assistant coaches are getting their ducks in a row, paperwork wise, so that there are no struggles with their contract being executed in December after the regular season is over.

Meanwhile, the recruits and commitments continue to wait and not know anything at this point. Obviously that is tough, but for the better than half-dozen midterm guys that is really difficult as they wait to hear something from the Vols.

We still believe that the best case timetable for getting a head coach hired is somewhere around the 15th of December."

because every game that i've been to and seen on tv... it has not.

granted I haven't been to any during the butch davis era, so that may have changed. But while Bunting was coaching, there was no comparison between Carter-Finley and Kenan.

Even on television this year, i've seen tons of empty seats across the stadium, these are 4 seats at a time empty, which means the precious season ticket holders who "sold out" for x amount of years in a row, are not coming. every game i've seen they don't even fill up until UNC starts to get a big lead.

Same with every UNC basketball game i've ever been to, the social atmosphere feels like a status battle in an NBA game. The fans are yelling and bitching the entire game until the team goes up by about 20 points... then you'd think they'd won the National Championship.

Very strong words from Davis this time. Much more definitive than previous statements.

Quote :
"CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- Asked yet again about his rumored interest in the open head coach position at the University of Tennessee, Butch Davis gave a definitive answer on Wednesday morning.

"I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in the University of Tennessee job," Davis said on Wednesday's ACC teleconference. "It's a great job, but I have no interest in it.

"I've said for the last couple of weeks that I love being here and my family loves being at Carolina. We’re building with the administration everything we can every single day to build a championship football program here."

When asked if Tennessee had contacted him or his agent, Jimmy Sexton, Davis replied, “No.”"

Once again, until UT hires a new coach, people will speculate that Davis *might* take the job. It doesn't matter what he says ... just ask Miami.

It's pretty clear that Davis and Baddour/the Board have met in the past day or two to discuss salary increases for himself, as well as his assistants, and set more definitive dates/allocate money for the stadium expansion. These were the criteria he most wanted met to stay at UNC. That's why he was willing to make a more absolute statement in today's teleconference.

^ yup

As for the picture, thats what it looks like in the beginning of the 1st quarter. Most students show up in the middle of the 1st or by the end of the 1st/start of the 2nd. In case of bad weather students are always hit and miss.

UNC fans dont get to the student section on time all the time. Hell you should see the line at the gate trying to get in right at kickoff.

^ That pic is actually from the first quarter of the BC game. Sadly, some of the probable bandwagoners decided that a little rain was too much handle so they stayed home. The rest of the season, our home games have been packed, with the exception of the second half of the McNeese State game after the 2 hour rain/lightning delay. The atmosphere at Kenan Stadium has changed and I can vouch for that as I've been at every home game this season.

Why in God's name would UNC want to embarrass itself further by adding more seats that will just sit bare during important conference games?

You obviously havent been to many UNC home games this season.

Also, the addition will add box seats and luxury office suites. It wont be all bleachers etc.

Uh, for the students they are actually doing the tailgating and not watching them. Part of the problem is tailgating until 20-30 minutes before kickoff, or until all the beer has been drank. The other part is walking from the tailgating spot to the stadium (easy half mile walk sometimes), then the problem of every student having to go in one gate which is like watching a constipated shit try to be flushed down an extra small toilet, then they find their seats after they talk to their friends, socialize, etc.

do you think people stay within the boundaries of their seat when the people next to them don't show up? It is very easy to have several thousand "empty" seats look full because the gap gets spread out.

generally when a team that doesnt have the best attendance wants to inflate their numbers, they go off the numbers of tickets sold, not the turnstyle numbers of tickets actually used

^^so you're saying you show up LATE for the game b/c of those aforementioned conditions, conditions that haven't changed in probably 20-30 years. Yeah, sounds like a good reason, getting caught by surprise like that

See, this is what happens when children cant pay attention to detail when they read.

^^ Good to know but they will judge you for being so "manly", yet such a pussy homophobe.

Amen Jaybee...I haven't been to any college games this year while living in Charlotte but I've been to a number of Panthers games...you don't go out late on Saturday night partying...you plan on getting up early and tailgating on Sunday...you buy your beer Saturday night since they don't sell it until noon on Sunday...you get people together early and leave early and get to your tailgating spot early...and when its 20-30 minutes until kickoff, you kill your beer, and take another one for the walk...most people outside of Chapel Hill realize this

hahaha

And the reason the fans are late is because good wine needs more time to breathe after the cork is evacuated.

i dont think our students have much leverage to bitch about any other student section. for just about every game ive watched this year on tv, and during the one i went to, section 15 was practically empty at kick-off. the rest of the stadium was packed, but no one was in 15. it filled out eventually, but it looked bad at kickoff.

^I think that has more to do with not having numbered seating and everyone cramming into section 7 and 8.

I liked sitting in section 15. You have a pretty damn good view of everything from up there and you can drink alcohol a lot easier too.
