I didn't play ME1.

I want to play ME2.

Will I miss out on a lot (story, etc.)?

Yes. At the very least, you're not going to understand the stories behind the bad guys and some of your teammates.

So when the Council offered to reinstate my Spectre status, I told them to shove it. Do you get any sort of fun missions out of accepting?

^^go ahead and do it. I did it in like 7-8 hours doing some of the side quests and reading through all the dialogue. Not too many missions at all.

I think you can actually bone 3 of the 4 in ME2 in a single game.

You can have sex with Jack immediately with no strings attached, but she won't talk to you again, you can have a fling with Kelly that doesn't count as a real romance, and still have an actual "relationship" with Miranda or Tali.

I haven't actually done this, but it's what I've heard.

I'm working my way through the loyalty missions. Some of them I'm not sure how to respond to, considering they often involve killing a person and you have to choose whether or not to let them do it. I kinda want to save the game before each of those events and see what each outcome is, but then again I think its against the whole idea of this kind of RPG.

What 'unlocked' loyalty powers do you people use? I only have Zaeed's Incendiary Grenade on Shepard right now, since that was the first loyalty mission I completed, but its pretty useless when I try to use it. The grenades never hit my target, and if they do the splash damage (and damage to begin with) is negligible. I think I'll get the rest of the loyalty powers unlocked before I retrain Shepard.

----

On another note, I still hate how the game is over simplified and missing so many components of MS1. Didn't it used to have grenades and other projectiles before? Those were incredibly useful. The new health system, while convenient, doesn't really match the feel of an RPG either.

Totally agree. Much less an RPG. Feels more like a glorified shooter without all the RPG elements of ME1. Still fun though.

Who do you usually roll with in your posse?

I mainly like the bald lady, reminds me of Natalie Porman in V for Berretta

and I switch between the Australian guy with the facial scar and the big Frog dude

My team really depends on the type of enemies I expect to run into. For example, Jacob sucks against the geth, so I have used Miranda and Tali. For organic enemies, I use people with incendiary ammo/fire grenades. Since I get shot the most and do the most damage, I took the barrier skill as my bonus. I might switch that with Grunt's fortification skill and see how it compares.

Just FYI everyone, but if you play Tali's recruitment mission on hardcore or insanity you get a geth pulse rifle.

I just did it myself. It was pretty hard as an adept (already gimped on higher difficulties because of enemy defenses), level 13 (first mission after Horizon), and having 10 points invested in the bonus skill Dominate (awesome skill, but useless vs Geth). But it was do-able, even though I used all of my medi-gel.

^ no

As soon as you get the option to do the Reaper IFF mission you can complete the game (it sets the path in motion).

You might lose people though.

I am a Vanguard, with Shockwave maxed out. I had Jack fully level up her Shockwave to Heavy Shockwave, which is fun on easy targets, but realized that its not really that great of variety to have redundant abilities especially when the most troublesome enemies have shields, biotic barriers, or armor.

I run Zaeed a lot, very useful in nearly all situations, and most often use Garrus, Miranda, Jack, and Jacob (in that order). Garrus is good for Overload and Concussive shot, Miranda good for overload and Warp (though useless once their shields are down). The doctor hasn't proved very useful with his Incinerate and Freeze abilities, and haven't taken the Krogan out yet. Haven't used the quarian at all.

I roll with Miranda and Thane, typically.

Jack and Garrus sometimes. I've never partied with Zaeed or Jacob.

It's too bad Legion comes in so late in the game.

P.S. THANK JEEBUS GAME DEVELOPERS HAVE FIGURED OUT THAT WE DON'T WANT OUR GAME TO END AFTER WE'VE COMPLETED THE MAIN STORY LINE.

Oh snap-- critical question:

If I choose to import the finished game character to a new game, will there be even better weapons and such waiting for me, or will I already be maxed out?

No, there are not any better weapons.

But you won't be maxed out, because they strip your upgrades.

What's the point of importing your character? Only to maintain your appearance?

^I can't really think of how it matters other than helping with the "Play Mass Effect 2 twice" achievement. They strip your weapons and abilities; you can change your face/class, and your alignment is reset to neutral.

I imported my default John Shepard and changed him to a black tech user. I immediately wished he looked more like Jacob and less like my deformed brown person.

I think if you start a new character it means Ashley was dead, where if you banged her and kept her alive in the first game, she remains alive in this game. Conversely, if you let Kirilenko die in the first game (and who wouldn't...he was worthless), then he remains dead in this game, but he is still alive if you start a new character and don't import.

You get a bonus of credits. Your story in ME2 will be different based off of what characters died in the first as ^ said. You also start off at level 2 I believe. (i'm going off of memory here )

I beat it without losing anybody on the "suicide" mission, but I was very puzzled by the final boss. It was so ridiculously easy, hopefully it'll be more of a challenge on the higher difficulties.

Anyway, all the fire-based skills come in really handy on the final mission. I used Mordin and Zaeed in my team, with Miranda and Grunt as backup team leads/gophers.

Is it just me, or are Geth Primes waaaay bigger in ME2? I ran into one around a corner in one mission and freaked out.

I think the wiki said if you import a high level character you start out at level 5 instead of 1, and start with more credits. Not really that helpful but I guess its better than nothing.

And yea your decisions in ME1 determines who appears in certain ME2 scenes and what role they play

I beat my firsy playthrough last night. Played as a Renegade soldier and only lost 1 person (Jack) who I made my little love interest for the achievement...now I'm wondering what determines if I loose someone if it can be done without losing anyone. She was loyal, I know that much...

Your ME1 game determines whether the council survived, whether Ashley or Kaiden died, whether you're smitten with Ashley or Liara, whether Wrex dies, and what happened with the genophage thing.

I have two ME1 saved games, one where I just played how I wanted to, the other where I made all opposite decisions from the first play. I'm playing ME2 for a second time, this time with my other saved game, and it's making a bit of a difference so far. At least with the dialogue.

^^ I made it without losing anyone. Based on your ship upgrades and the decisions who made on the collector ship, and think it's possible to lose most of your crew.

SPOILER: if you don't go to through the Omega Replay immediately after you're able to, Chambers will die. If you do, Chambers will live.

So to anyone who has completed the first game to make it to 60, is it possible to accomplish this in only 2 playthroughs? My OCD is compelling me to finish my second time through before I start the second game. I'm gonna be pissed if I do everything and wind up at 59, 'cause there's no interest in a third time through for just one level. Do the DLC packs grant experience?

I got to 57 during my second time around, but avoided most side-quests (I just wanted to see the alternate outcomes), so I'd imagine 60 would be easy if you were gunning for it.

Apparently the last 2 levels have crazy experience requirements, you probably won't make it to 60.

The bonus you get from level 60 aren't that great, just a faster start and some extra money and resources.

I got to 46 on one play through on ME1. I completed every single mission I could to get my monies worth.

I never found the shadow broker at all in ME1....is it even possible, I never saw anything that would lead me farther into that quest.
