I'm pretty sure Fells was hurt like 5 minutes into the 2nd half. He came up limping from one play (I think he got fouled hard or something) and looked like he was really in pain. He just wasn't on his game as well after that.
Also, I think Costner got himself benched for most of the 2nd b/c he really was being a lazy ass (although I have to agree with ppl who were saying a lazy Costner is better than Horner, but maybe sid was trying to send a message to the team).
McCauley...well he just looked scared of that Nigerian dude; thats all I really have to say about that.1/13/2009 10:34:51 PM |

Fells hasnt been playing good at all this year. None of his usual fast break dunks, and he hasnt been shooting (read as shooting, not even missing) any 3s at all. Ya I know hes been out with injuries but whatever. 1/13/2009 10:43:57 PM |

1) I never said McCauley was not hustling. I said he had TO's and didn't take but one shot down the stretch, and a bad shot at that. If Smith and Thomas were able to get open looks and score inside, then so should Ben.
2) No one has earned a starting role on this team. Sidney can and should continue to bench struggling veterans with surging underclassmen. Besides, if you don't play Mays, Williams, and Thomas now, you'll lose a chance to get them valuable experience that will pay dividends down the road.
I don't want to hear this crap about "starting our veterans at all costs b/c they'll be ready come ACC tourney time." Bullshit. When you vets committ TO's, take bad shots, and generally underperform, you BENCH them. Besides, what happens when one of them gets injured (ala Atsur)? Now is the time for players to prove themselves.
Lowe's message is clear: if you want to start, EARN IT. 1/13/2009 10:45:42 PM |

Fells has never lived up to the hype, and Costner and Macauley can eat a bag of dicks.
Gotta love it when your so called veterans shit the floor at end the game when the players with heart put them in a position to step up, be men, and win.

McCauley hustles more than anyone on the team how could you say otherwise?
Mays is turning into a ACC-caliber PG. That's not an excuse anymore.
Horner playing more than Costner and Tracy is ridiculous.1/13/2009 11:47:44 PM |

New recruits shot 13-18, and only turned the ball over 5 times. The players Sid inherited shot 10-35 and had the other 11 turnovers.

to be fair javi had 2 TOs in 3 min and was mistakenly included in the numbers with herb's players
mays went 5-8 and had 3 TOs in 26 min thomas went 2-2 and 1 TO in 18 min williams went 3-5 and 1 TO in 17 min smith went 3-3 and 0 TO in 16 min
sounds like smith had some issues with his knee flaring up so that's why we didnt get to see more of him 1/14/2009 1:01:47 AM |

Wow, talk about what have you done for me lately. In almost every game this year, we built up the lead with them all in the game and immediately when 2 of the 3 were pulled we gave it back.
This is really the first game that all three were nonexistent... You guys are going to be in for quite a shock when these three players are out of the program next year. Not for nothing, but all four of these players were higher rated and more talented players than our three freshman (including JT) who happened to have a good game tonight.
Quote : | "and fuck costner? without him marquette, davidson and UF would prob have blown us out and we might have lost to ECU...again" |
Agreed, all of our OOC losses he was $$$$. Ben and Brandon have been, far and away, our best players this year. Fells, while annoying to me, has had tons of nicks and injuries, so it's tough to get on him IMO. Even the thought of benching them is absurd to me. We are an 0-16 team in the ACC without our three 4th years guys getting SIGNIFICANT minutes. Without Costner tonight we're down 20+ in the first half...
*** It's so trendy to blame only the players that Sidney Lowe inherited on this disaster of a program, but it's also really unfair when you look at the numbers...

Fells obviously tweaked his ankle on that attempted fast break lay in he skyed for and got the blocking foul. He came up hobbling, subbed out of the game the next possession, and went back to the locker room. That may or may not have been the reason for his jump shots being all over the place after that. 1/14/2009 9:09:58 AM |

Lol, seriously? He has only had one solid game against one of the lower teir teams in the ACC. Javi had a similar performance against Duke last year. I hope he continues to improve (oh yeah, look at that, Lowe's recruits are showing improvement), but acting like he has solved our PG problems at this point is just silly.1/14/2009 9:40:07 AM |
markgoal All American 15996 Posts user info edit post |
Mays has shown the ability to attack the lane and score when opponents overplay the passing lanes, something our other PGs haven't shown on any consistent basis. He hasn't really shown the ability to create for others, something he will need to learn to do to lead this team when facing competition that scouts his tendencies and plays him straight up. I like the talent and aggressiveness he brought to the table. 1/14/2009 9:47:54 AM |

I agree he hasn't solved our PG issues. But he is showing promise. Tonight was probably the worst game I have seen him play this season, and it was still pretty good. (I am basing this on decision making).

As bad as Fells' shots were, it is hard to put the bulk of the blame on him. Prior to him lofting those prayers up, the rest of the team seemed unwilling or unable to create or take shots. 1/14/2009 10:50:44 AM |
