I definitely LOL'd but it's all at stuff I have seen before. I've always thought clip shows were lazy but pretty much every show that has been longer than 5 seasons has had them at some point...

I thought both The Office and 30 Rock pretty much sucked tonight, but whatever...

^ Except I've been downloading and watching all the old episodes of The Office during the off season. So I was pretty fucking disappointed with this episode, as I had seen it all within the last week in the context of the actual episode it was presented in.

I forgot yesterday was Thursday. So, just a clip show eh? I thought they'd have something, anything after that extended break. Guess they're pretty much done.

The first time I saw the scene where Angela throws the cat through the ceiling I laughed about it for 3 days. It was funny this time too.

Still.... lazy episode.

Might be lazy but most comedy shows that have run this long have done a clip show...doesn't mean the show "is done".. well maybe not most but a lot Seinfeld, Friends.. etc.

Haha, obviously the show isn't done and part of that is because NBC is in the shitter. They'd probably pay a king's ransom to keep this show on the air. It's still one of, if not, the only show NBC sitcom that can compete in the most important demographic (18-49) and NBC needs SOMETHING that it can point to at this point. It will go at least 7 seasons and probably 8.

Clip shows, by definition, suck if you have watched most of a show's episodes. The Seinfeld ones always pissed me off and that was my favorite show ever.

18-49? That's a pretty huge spread demographic. I would think at least 18-24 would be looked at differently than 25-50.

You watched well over 100 episodes in a week? Average a little over 20 minutes per commercial-less episode means you watched AT LEAST 35 hours worth. I wish I had that kind of time on my hands, and if I did it wouldn't be spent watching TV reruns.

I think doing a clip show is fine, but not after hiatus. Its almost a signature of NBC comedies to do a clip show at some point (Scrubs did it very well IMO, and I liked this one too).

^ Fine, more like 2-3 weeks. It was a bit of an exaggeration. My point still stands that most of the episodes that the clips were pulled from were still fresh in my mind.

^^^ I don't make the demographics.

My guess is they have three segments. Kids, adults, old people. 18-49 is "adults."

Just when I thought NBC had reached the pinnacle of lameness, they give me an office clip show.

I agree that they're lazy. It's especially disappointing given that reruns of the office air on several networks, so several of those clips were fresh for me, an average TV viewer.

I used to love sitting down on a Thursday night and watching Office/Earl/Scrubs. I hope that they keep the Office going for at least another 2 or 3 seasons. I thought the Dunder Mifflin shake up would've provided for some new material, but apparently a clip show was in order..................

Either way, after them dumping Scrubs to ABC and then just straight up ruining the end of Earl, they owe it to fans not to screw up the Office.

Kathy Bates? Christian Slater?

Shows use guest stars when they're first establishing themselves...and when they're on their last legs.

the whole David Wallace thing seems very similar to Jan when she was fired - had a breakdown & then tried selling candles or whatever. This episode sucked. I guess I smiled at the Sab-re joke.

I worked for a company in which part of it dealt with executives who lost their job. Trust me, his reaction isn't that far out of the ordinary. Everyone reacts differently, but even some of the most charismatic business leaders can be completely beaten down when they are let go. I didn't see it as totally unrealistic. Though the "suck-it" thing was forced and retarded.

I actually kind of liked the episode. I thought the daycare thing was hilariously awkward and the opening was great with the "scissor me" and the boring and annoying new receptionist yelling she had a big box.

Christian Slater didn't really bother me. His level of washed-upedness (new word) pretty much fit that horrible video.

** also, there is a huge distinction between Jan and David Wallace. Jan had a complete mental breakdown while Wallace is simply in the depressed phase before accepting that he lost his job and needs to get going on finding a new one. Totally different. Honestly, this little story with the buyout is easy for me to understand after observing similar real-life situations.

Yeah, they really went out of their way to get big stars like Christian Slater and Kathy Bates. Must be desperate for ratings.

Next thing you know they're going to bring in the combined star power of Bill Pullman and Delta Burke.

Or maybe they'll get super desparate and have to call on known-ratings-draws Dean Cain and Florence Henderson.

^^ haha yeah that was awful. It wasn't funny at all.

My only issue right now with the show is that I honestly HATE the new receptionist. She is incredibly boring and like a third of each show is her and Andy being fucking retarded about each other. They don't joke around really at all either. It's just forced stupidity.

Overall, though, Season 6 is better than Season 5 as far as laughs IMO.

** Also, the Office's ratings aren't down at all from past seasons. In fact, compared to the other Thursday night shows (even 30 Rock) they are much, much higher... In fact, most weeks it's nearly double that of any other 8:00-10:00 NBC show.

In fact, the only thing better than having Christian Slater playing a washed up actor who appears in corporate communications would be to pull an NC State and get a guy who looks like Christian Slater to do it.

bullshit

It was a cheap joke, and a poorly executed one at that

They could have salvaged it by Wallace mentioning the name to his wife and her misinterpreting in and getting offended

I tend to agree with Alan Sepinwall on most things. This is one

Quote :
"

I've seen a lot of you complain a lot this season that "The Office" feels played-out, and/or that Jim and Pam (Pam especially) have become really smug and annoying. Though I haven't found season six to be as strong or consistent as season five was, "Sabre" was the first episode to really make me see the validity of either of those complaints. It was an episode that felt too reminiscent of a previous one (with Michael reacting to Sabre's new policies with only slightly more maturity than he took to Charles Miner), where most of the laughs came from relatively minor characters (David Wallace, Andy, Erin) and where I really disliked Jim and Pam for the first time, maybe, ever.

I was hoping when they announced that Dunder-Mifflin had been sold based on the strength of the branches, and of this branch in particular, that we might get a story arc where Michael was more or less left alone to wield his peculiar brand of managerial strategy. Instead, Sabre(*) comes in and starts dictating policy changes. I recognize that mergers and consolidations are a big part of corporate culture now, and lots of real-life Michaels and Creeds are being forced to learn a new set of rules after having years to get used to the old ones. But at the same time, the show has gone to this particular well an awful lot, notably with Ryan's brief corporate reign and then the Miner/Michael Scott Paper Company arc, and I'd rather see them try something different at this point.

(*) By the way, is there not a single hockey fan at Dunder-Mifflin Scranton? Perhaps one who's ever paid a visit to the company's Buffalo branch, where they have an NHL team whose name would have told them that it's not pronounced "SOB-ray"?

Still, there was some funny material in the main story, most of it taking place at the home of an unemployed David Wallace, now so lacking in direction and drive that he's happy for the first time in his life to see Michael Scott show up unannounced. Andy Buckley has mainly had to play the exasperated straight man to Michael since he first turned up in season two, and it was fun to watch him cut loose and play this pathetic creature shuffling around his house, coming up with terrible business ideas(**), jamming with his son on a "Suck-It" theme song, etc.

(**) When David proposed the idea for the Suck-It, my wife turned to me and said, "Every parent thinks that one up at some point or another. Then we realize it's stupid."

Ed Helms and Ellie Kemper continue to be adorable and funny as the oblivious, Bizarro World version of Jim and Pam. However, their overlapping confessions to the camera crew was one of two instances in this episode where I began to wonder about the consistency of that device. We saw in seasons past that the camera guys befriended Pam and weren't above interfering in the action a little (as they did by tipping Pam off to the Dwight/Angela secret romance), and I would have to think these guys would take pity on these two and clue them in in some way.

(The other documentary issue: if we assume that the film is something Dunder-Mifflin signed off on years ago, shouldn't it be an issue for new management? Even if it's a case where Gabe or Kathy Bates or someone does a double take and says something like, "Oh, yeah, that's part of the deal, too.")

As for Jim and Pam's daycare center interview, that's a kind of story I rarely like on any sitcom (even though I've faced childcare availability issues myself over the years), and this one struck a particularly flat note. When I find myself sympathizing with Joey Slotnick from "The Single Guy" over Pamela Morgan Beasley Halpert, something has gone seriously awry with the heart of the series, even if John Krasinski (who directed this one) can do a good Christian Slater impression.

Ah, well. At least it wasn't a clip show. And we do get one more new episode next week before yet another hiatus (this one due to the Olympics).

What did everybody else think?"

I liked how Erin is shown to basically be Michael's slave, and the fact that even Michael has outsmarted her.
