i put new wiper blades on the dakota today
when did the vatozones and retard auto parts stop carrying the regular wiper refills? all they had were those shitty cut-to-length ones, which always end up tearing at the end for me. i had to get the whole blade thing and $20 sucks compared to the ~$5 it used to cost me. they are much easier to change that way, though. 1/26/2010 7:31:11 PM |

^^^ the bigger deal is that the S2000's suspension geometry responds notoriously poorly to lowering. You may or may not have problems with a 1" drop, but i've always been one to avoid monkeying with S2000 suspension. I think you're MUCH more likely to hurt than help. 2/7/2010 9:47:29 AM |

Last Saturday, while it was sleeting, I fixed the motor/regulator combo for my front passenger window on my Jeep Cherokee.
I had to splice the old wiring harness onto the new part to get it to fit, too, which sucked. The new motor is also significantly weaker than the old one, and it's clear I got what I paid for. I will not, however, pay $410 for a part on a ten year old car when I can pay $106 for a part for my car and have it work just about as well as far as I'm concerned. The window goes up. The window goes down.
Soon I will be having new tires installed on it, because I hate the Dunlop all-seasons I have now and because the tires didn't wear evenly at all, even with rotation (which makes me think they didn't do the rotation when I dropped it off since it was one of those "we'll rotate your tires for free for life" deals). 2/7/2010 3:06:55 PM |

got a 99 jeep grand cherokee for the gf. wrenched on it this weekend
oil change, transmission filter and fluid, spark plugs, hood struts, door stopper thing, air filter, cleaned throttle body, found a new oil cap at junkyard, took apart the driver's seat to unsuccessfully figure out the heated seat problem and made a list of more stuff to work on later 2/7/2010 8:28:29 PM |

Ahmet is probably familiar with this...
On 944's, one of the most annoying issue is the center console/arm rest. It's basically a plastic console with a plastic hinge that wears out over time. Mechanics not familiar with how fragile this thing is will sometimes "slide" into the driver's seat and use the console for support, which is a no-no as the plastic hinge will give way.
I was about to just superglue the damn thing shut since I never use it, but then I found a set of hinges at the house I just bought Expensive ass hinges if I say so myself, haha, but after about 15 minutes of screwing these things in, it seems to be MUCH more sturdy than before, though you can see the hinges when closed from the passenger side, w/e, it works.

Adjusted the valve shims on my 18-year-old Yamaha. 7/8 were out of spec. While browsing some Yamaha forums for petcock rebuild tips, I found this post:
Quote : | "Just fully rebuilt my petcock and this time I got everything right. Can you believe it? I always botch petcocks. My lever is really tight now. I know tight is good with the petcock, but is there something I should have smeared on the lever o-ring to make it move easier? Or is it fine the way it is?" |
