Kerry Kittles. Jesus. I feel like he disappeared kind of fast. Or maybe he was in the league longer than I thought. What a great magazine cover.

^^ Agreed. That game and the game last week between Denver and Golden State are the reasons I love the NBA. I mean shit most NBA teams score more in a half than college teams do the entire game. I flipped by the Pitt (#18)/whoever game earlier. Pitt had 8 turnovers, and 5 made shots in 11 minutes, come on.

Holy shit! Grant Hill still has spring!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgytI1V4w_4&feature=channel

Trust me, it's worth watching. I think he might have taken 3 steps?, but who cares. Long live Grant Hill.

^Not even close to 3 steps...and not really a lot of "spring" either. Nice dunk...but nothing spectacular. He didn't get that high (ball was slightly above the rim and Grant Hill is 6'8"). Impressive if only because Grant Hill is 37, has had 8 million ankle surgeries, and he kinda dunked BESIDE Carlos Boozer.

And I like Grant Hill.

Also was surprised to see the Heat pull that out last night. I would have put money on LA closing them out after sending it into overtime. Good game by Wade, Richardson, and the Heat.

I'm so glad there are now four good teams out west at least, that means the lakers will actually get a tough matchup in the 2nd round, i hope it's the mavs, I'd also like their 1st round to be somewhat difficult but I dunno, maybe if it was new orleans and chris paul came back

But missed a really good look at the buzzer for the tie...

justin.tv has some, but that site keeps getting over run with dumb stuff like WWE and cricket. I hate cricket.

I've gone all luddite and started listening to games on the radio, long distance. Get a CCRadio Plus:

http://www.gearlog.com/2005/12/need_a_longdistance_am_radio_h.php

It's a bit much for a radio if you're not a ham or some other kind of radio geek. It's helpful when you live 5 hours from the nearest pro team of any kind.

So Knicks season ticket sales for next year are way up...

steph curry prob outplayed kobe the other night but his team lost, I've never seen golden state play this yr but they have a weird as hell offense, I couldn't see any of their players in the post on offense at all which I assume would screw up getting offensive rebounds but I guess they just want to get as many 3s as they can

Why?? They won a championship because of getting him. You could say that if they kept Al, they might have still won....maybe. Garnett was still really good that year and was a huge defensive presence. They also probably wouldn't have been able to lure Ray Allen over for that year.

I'm sure they would have liked to get 2 championships out of that group of guys...but 1 is greater than zero. Who knows what would have happened if they had kept Al...but I doubt they beat the Lakers or several other teams to win a championship two years ago.

Why is real easy because they're about to pay the guy an arm and a leg to be a shadow of the player he once was.

His knees/body are showing signs of wear and tear and while he is still ok today, a year from now could be drastically different for him.

[Edited on March 29, 2010 at 11:54 AM. Reason : Also I didn't mean them regretting getting KG. I meant regretting giving him that huge extension.]

Silly cats

Garnett wouldn't be on Boston if it wasn't for that extention

Boston agreeing to that extention before the trade was the only way he would have accepted it

He had a no trade clause in his previous deal

I kept wondering why the Hawks were behind the Celtics in the standings when they both had the same record and Atlanta absolutely ran a train on them this year, sweeping the series 4-0

Quote :
"Simply, if Boston and Atlanta finish the season with identical records, the Celtics will receive the higher seed (most likely the No. 3) even though they lost all four regular season games to the Hawks. That is because they will be champions of a division (the NBA's Hindenburg) while the Hawks will not, losing out to Orlando."

Seems asinine. The whole concept of divisions in the NBA is archaic. It just looks prettier in the paper than having 15 teams jumbled together. You never hear a coach say "It would be great to win the Southeast this year."

^Same thing happens in the NFL. Kind of like when the Chargers got in last year at 8-8 and I believe the Patriots were out at 11-5.

^ Nah in the NFL the divisions matter more than in the NBA because you play your interdivisional rivals more often than the other teams in the league. Plus the scheduling in the NFL is related to the division your are in (except for 2 games).

The Chargers played a much harder schedule than the Pats did that season.

Bogut's injury last night looked horrific

He's either got a broken or dislocated elbow, which means he most likely won't be around for the playoffs. It's a shame to see key players like that go down with the playoffs right around the corner. The Bucks were looking good too.

Something I knew, NyM knew, and perhaps a few others here might've known

But I bet most of you never heard of him before

Quote :
"Who is the most powerful person in the NBA? David Stern? No. LeBron James? No. Kobe Bryant? Nope. It's Wes Wesley. Most fans don't know who he is. Most players, agents and GMs can't figure out who he works for. (More on that in a minute.) But we all know this: Wes is the greatest connector of players, coaches, GMs, agents, celebrities and big-time sponsors in sports. Need tickets to a Jay-Z concert, a new sneaker deal or the phone number of a general manager, he's your man. There's a reason we call him Uncle Wes.

The first time I met him I was in college, and I was like, "Who is this guy?" He was advising a teammate, which made me skeptical. Then I noticed he had his name on his Jordans, which was pretty cool. I'd never seen that before on anyone who wasn't in the NBA, so I knew Wes was legit.

After I got into the league I ran into him again because he was friends with a guy on my team. He took me to dinner and told me if I ever needed anything to just call. Right away I knew he was different from the other sketchy dudes hanging around because he didn't ask me for anything. Years later, the man has hooked me up with everything from sports drink endorsements to grooming commercials. When I wanted a new sneaker deal, Wes was my first call. My agent may have negotiated the contract, but Wes made it happen. And he's never asked for a dime, ever. Nobody really knows who pays him. I'm good friends with him, and I still don't know.

Sticky situation? Uncle Wes is your man.

Another reason guys respect Wes is that the dude will give it to you straight up. Most guys who hang around young, rich athletes won't do that because they're afraid of getting fired. But you can't fire Wes. He doesn't work for you. He's like that dude from Pulp Fiction who gets called in to clean up sticky situations. Sometimes it's a young guy who is great on the court but sucks at life. Wes will straighten his ass out. He'll say, "You're coming with me, young fella." Then he'll lay it out on the table like, "Dude, you're screwin' up." He'll look at his entourage and say, "This person stays, but these clowns gotta go." Sometimes it's a coach who calls him for help, or a teammate or an agent. But he gets through to guys because he never asks for anything. And it doesn't hurt that he remembers the name of everyone he's ever met.

One of my favorite Wes stories is from a few years back, when he completely tore apart a well-known superstar's entourage for acting like idiots. Up to that point, no one had the balls to call out this guy's friends. The player's manager was professional and always wore a suit, but the other clowns around him were acting dumb and dressing like slobs. So one day Wes just loses it and curses out the manager. "These bums are dragging down the entire brand! You guys are repping your friend and walking around in these raggedy clothes acting like dumb-asses! Get outta here!" Sure enough, they were gone, like that. That player has been straight since.

Because he has the ear of every player, coach, GM and sneaker company, a lot of people around basketball like to hate on Wes. Agents worry that he's going to steal their clients and steer them to one of his favorite agents. They think he's a glorified runner, a dude who agents send around to befriend players, get them into clubs and eventually get them to sign a contract. It's a shady business. But Wes is not one of those guys. Wes isn't running for anyone. I'm sure he's got his ways to make money, but he's interested only in setting up deals and making sure the people around you are looking out for you. When I got to the NBA he asked me if my agent was taking care of me. I told him about my contract, and Wes said it was cool, that my agent did a good job. He just wanted to know that I was taken care of.

Agents aren't the only ones wary of Wes, though. He scares GMs because he has the power to convince players they need a change of scenery when their contracts are up. I wouldn't be surprised if he's in LeBron's ear about Cleveland. And the rumor now is that he recently signed on with CAA -- home to LeBron, Melo and D-Wade -- to be an agent for college and NBA coaches. I guess the thinking goes: He's already friends with Calipari, why not make it official? If this is true, we'll finally know where some of his money comes from. But it won't be all of it; Wes will still be setting up deals all over. I'm just glad he's my friend."

Ah, yes... William Wesley. He's pretty well known these days but I've known about him for almost a decade now -- he was heavily involved in Rip Hamilton going to UConn.

Calipari gets the most shit for working with him but nearly every college coach has. I guarantee that our coach is at least on speaking terms with him and I know for a fact that in the past coaches like Gary Williams, K, Calhoun and Pitino have both used him to attempt to get players and taken kids from one of his AAU feeder programs.

this is Doyel-esque

http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/04/12/lebron-james-owes-fans-a-refund/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002

Quote :
"LeBron James today needs to take the $192,437 he is paid for each game he plays -- or doesn't play -- and divide it evenly among the 20,562 people who bought tickets to the Cavs-Magic game Sunday afternoon.

He owes them each a refund check for $9.35.

That's the least he should do for mocking every fan at the arena who paid to see him play. Cavs ownership that encouraged him should pay the rest of each ticket price, and mail those checks immediately.

James, with the blessing of coach Mike Brown, sat out his third consecutive game Sunday, not because he was hurt, but because he wanted to rest up for the playoffs.

Joe Hardhat, who paid a day's wage three months ago to buy two good seats so his son could see his first Cavs game Sunday, deserves better treatment than this.

It's arrogance at the NBA's worst.

It's why James never will earn the respect that was once given to Michael Jordan. Maybe James should think again about that number change to honor him.

It's why he just lost my vote for NBA Most Valuable Player. If he doesn't think it's important enough to play all 82 -- or at least try -- then he isn't good enough to be the MVP.

If stars like James think it's too taxing to play 82 games, then they should offer to reduce salaries during the upcoming collective bargaining talks, and ask to play fewer games. Or set up a refund system.

James wants to be treated like the game's best player, but he doesn't want to carry the responsibility that comes with it. Fans don't buy $100 tickets to watch him sit in a nice suit, chatting up Shaquille O'Neal on the sideline. O'Neal was recovering from a broken thumb. James was stealing money.

Forget that it's a nationally-televised game. Those people can just turn off the television, and tune in something else. Don't feel sorry for them. Feel sorry for the guy in section 118, row F, seat 6 who watched Jamario Moon get introduced in the starting lineup.

Although this happens throughout the league late in the season, that doesn't make it right. It's something the league needs to address during these CBA talks. Players are paid richly to entertain, and there is no entertainment value in seeing James smiling on the sideline.

This is not like Kevin Garnett in Boston taking a night off. This is LeBron James, the center of the Cleveland universe, Mr. Miraculous, and the only player who matters when you go to watch a Cavs game. There is no debating his wonderful and unbelievable talents. It's the commitment you should question.

Although he likes to think he knows NBA history, he must not. The greatest thing about Jordan was that he played every game he could. He loved the game, and he respected the fans, something James hasn't learned just yet.

Yes, the Cavs already had clinched the No. 1 seed through the playoffs, but that should not matter. It didn't matter to Jordan, who played 82 games nine times in his career.

Jordan played all 82 in 1995-96, 1996-97, and 1997-98 – when the Bulls clinched early and won 72, 69 and 62 games, respectively. He cut back his minutes, but he never cut back his responsibility to the game and the fans.

He even played all 82 in his last season, in Washington, when he wasn't very good anymore, when he was 40 years old. He did it because it was the right thing to do, something the Cavs forgot to tell James.

Apparently, James never watched the old school guys like Karl Malone and John Stockton in Utah, who combined to play every game a whopping 27 times in their careers.

If the Cavs weren't so nervous about James bolting town in free agency this summer, maybe they would have reminded him. Instead Brown has treated the end of the regular season like exhibition games. He should know better.

James isn't the only one with normal bumps and bruises that come with an NBA season. Magic center Dwight Howard takes more of a pounding than anyone in the league, forced to endure endless hard fouls because opponents know he can't make free throws. Howard, by contrast, is likely to play the last two games, giving him 82 for the fifth time in six years.

If James wants some rest, he should reduce his playing time significantly, and sit out the second half. It's just not fair to the paying customers, who are too often forgotten by the me-first players like James.

Howard isn't the only one who plays every night. Kevin Durant, who is dueling James for the scoring title, wasn't afraid to play every night. Neither was Amare Stoudemire. There are many others.

James has yet to finish a season by playing in all 82 games, which will be a clear mark against him when he is judged against the all-time great players in NBA history. Does he really respect the game?

The Cavs finish the regular season Wednesday in Atlanta. If he is healthy, James owes it to the NBA to be in uniform. "

Yeah I've heard about WWW for a long time, but calling him "the most powerful person in the NBA" seems like a major stretch.

Seems to me he's basically like a super agent. Influential, but without him would anything be all that different? I mean, would Lebron James just not exist without Wes?
