Javi probably got injured if he didn't play in what seemed like the last 5-10 mins. We looked tired and a step too slow for their quick guards. Their offense flowed smoothly and easily. Ours seemed stuttered and forced.

I keep thinking "I can't wait for Harrow and ZO to be here next year." We'll FINALLY get some elite level guard talent in here.

At some point you just have to come to the realization that we aren't a good shooting team. Sure, we'll have lucky as shit halfs where everything comes together (Marquette) but by and large teams are giving those shots by design.

In the ACC we'll have teams collapsing in on Smith every game and those teams have the defensive quickness to get hands out on the perimeter which will make our outside threat even less consequential...

I think the ACC blows this year relative to it's usual standing, but they still have better fucking athletes than bottom third SoCon teams. Do you really not think the game plan will be to collapse in/double down on Smith and then pop out to defend the perimeter secondarily?

^ We really never lost these games from 1998-2006. Hickson's freshman year was the first time in a long time we had these type of WTF losses... Sure we lost to a NCAA tourney team Seton Hall that we should have won and other BCS schools that we SHOULD have won... but not to SoCon teams or teams like UNO. Not since the mid-90's at least.

Eh, the problem with this is that Wood is at the 3 position and Josh Davis is not a perimeter guy at all.

I also think Davis is going to have more trouble in the ACC. He has an incredible amount of hustle, but when I saw him in person at the GASO game I thought he still looked terribly raw at times. I'd like to see how he performs against some legit inside players before we go crown him.

Wood's only problem is that he can't seem to get his shot to fall. From watching his stroke and watching him in warm-ups I just can't understand that shit. Its like the worst streak of cold shooting ever.

Yeah, Wood is a 3pt shooter, but he's timid and thinking too much. Hopefully his 3p% will improve.... but, there's more to his game than his shot (no comparison to ferg).

Davis is definitely raw, hopefully nobody is "crowning" him, but he's got the grit and talent to be a solid 4-yr contributor. Wood & Davis should be splitting mins right now, until Wood finds his shot.

He's a better overall shooter than Ferg and has better size... but still I saw a lot of clips of him play in high school and I was never sold on him being anything more than a spot up shooter. People on here SWORE he was a great ballhandler, could get to the hoop and do all sorts of things but I never saw it. The guys he were playing against looked like ME on the court, lol..

He'll get out of his funk though and hit some big shots for us over his career. I have no doubts about that.

alright, from my point of view at the game here is what i noticed. maybe this will curb the doomday prophecies going on in here.

1. wood shot terrible. maybe made a single shot? if that.
2. we played like we didn't care. it was 100% obvious if you were there
3. when we started to play well and go off the hook scoring, lowe would literally sit 1 or 2 of the hottest players
4. with #3 in mind, lowe was turning on and off the offense like a faucet. hard to explain. maybe somebody else there can back me up. like i said, whenever a guy would get the hot hand (javi gonzalez, smith, horner) lowe would immediately take them out and force the rest of the team to keep up production. and with us shooting bad, it just didn't happen

in conclusion i'm not terribly concerned with the wake game. they probably played balls out vs. this team, and like i said, lowe was literally trying to keep this close for some strange reason. call me a liar. i dont care. there's no other explanation for the substitutions he made last night as far as im concerned.
