The highs and lows of the long ass MLB season. Order will eventually be restored. The Nats will sink to last place with the Marlins, the Mets will battle the Braves for 2nd and the Phillies will run away with the East. Just my prediction.

I think the most annoying this is that the Mets secondary players are playing well (Barajas, Castillo, Pagan, Niese, Maine, etc) recently but the big guys are just KILLING the team. Reyes and Bay have been flat out awful and Wright has been leaving small armies on base despite having a good HR/RBI pace. If 3-4-5 was hitting even a little with runners on, then they'd be in first place.

Silver lining:

The Phils have the oldest lineup and rotation in baseball, by a lot (Moyer, of course, skews the pitching numbers)

It won't last forever!

Yeah, no one realizes that Utley, Howard and Rollins are all over 30. They came up the same year as Wright and Reyes in essence but are four years older.

Braves and Mets start another series tonight. Saw this gem on the AJC this morning:

Quote :
"When the Braves faced the Mets in New York April 23-25, Jeff Francoeur had started to cool down after a blazing first couple of weeks.

Sorry to disappoint those who like to lay Francoeur’s Braves struggles at the feet of Terry Pendleton, but Frenchy has remained ice-cold for nearly a month now.

Francoeur's gone ice-cold for Mets in past four weeks, batting .126 with one homer in 29 games.
He was 12-for-95 (.126) with three doubles, one homer, 12 RBIs and 23 strikeouts in his past 29 games, with a .173 OBP and .189 slugging percentage. He has as many errors (three) as walks in that stretch.

In his past nine games before today, Francoeur was 3-for-35 with no extra-base hits, no walks and 14 strikeouts. Yikes.
"

Sounds like he'd fit right in with Cabrera, McLouth, and Diaz in the Braves OF.

Good win for the Mets. The Braves could not get any clutch hits when they needed it. Prado not getting the man in from 3rd with only one out in the 8th was a killer.

Tomorrow's game looks bad for the braves too - Santana versus Medlen.

^ So a Derek Lowe vs Mike Pelfrey matchup wasn't good for the Mets? Seriously that is your #2 versus the Braves #4 (yeah Lowe started opening day, but he is clearly the 4th best pitcher on the team assuming Jurrjens gets back healthy).

Pelfrey had three bad starts in a row before last night, but Lowe has been awful now going back to about June of last year. Mets should have and did win last night's game.

Sorry if this has been addressed, but to those who actually watch the Mets: how many home runs do you think Bay will finish with? Is he a fantasy buy low candidate?

Can we please just fire Omar and Jerry today. You can't dump assholes like Wright and Bay, might as well start with fresh management.

Last night was exactly the ineptitude that kills the Mets day after day. Some scrub who never had a hit in his life in the bigs gets his first two hits and first two RBIs. It's never Jeter, A-Rod, Tex, etc... it's always Willie Fucking Harris, Andino, Bernardino, Russo or some other no-name piece of shit who will be meekly grounding out to second base in AAA for the next decade who kills us.

[Edited on May 22, 2010 at 9:10 AM. Reason : oh how can I forget Willie Taverez being 6-40 overall this year. 5-6 against us though!]

I'm just glad K-Rod manages to end the game. But man, can we make it a little less dramatic? Hopefully they can build off this, because this week is a big one. But, it does look like they get to avoid Halladay, which is always a plus.

By the way, reading the NYC articles today just reinforces why every non-Yankees fan in the country hates them. Articles basically saying that any team that gets a good player is just taking the scraps that the Yankees don't want. Multiple articles about how if the Yankees wanted Johan he'd be on their team.

FYI, Mets absolutely need to make every effort to acquire Roy Oswalt. I don't know if he would want to come to NYC since he, like Peavy, is a huge 'neck, but he would be PERFECT. He is owed $31M over the next 2.5 years and the Mets could pick that up. They could PROBABLY get away with a deal centered with Mejia and keep Flores/Ike/F-Mart.

Tricky Dick ftw

btw:
Quote :
" Mets starting pitchers have a 0.93 ERA during their past eight games. The starters are 4-0 over that span"

Chalk up 3 losses to the bullpen and lack of clutch hitting.

At least Washington is back in last place...the world is starting to right itself.

Best part about it is that Jose Reyes has played so well the last couple of nights. Especially nice against the Phillies because all their fans fucking HATE him. Reading Phillies fans' twitter posts last night was classic. They seriously want the guy to die. And only because he smiled and gave a high-5 outside the dugout.

[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 8:43 AM. Reason : oh it's apparently a night game tonight -- could have swore it was 1pm. oh well.]

As dominant as a series can be. The shutout sweep. Love to see Jose Reyes get Phillies fans' panties twisted again with his clapping on second base after the double last night.

Gotta bring the home play to the road and start playing well there. Great atmosphere at the game last night too for a small rain-soaked crowd.

Jeffy Wilpon needs to man up and tell Omar he'll pony up for a run at Oswalt. Johan, Pelf and Oswalt would be the best 1-3 in baseball and it CAN happen if we're willing to pay the $$$$. I get that he wanted to see what this team was made of before committing more money but they can obviously compete.

When I think of the Mets I think of Mike Piazza. This is important because I represent the average fan who doesnt really care about baseball. Well no I also associate David Wright with the Mets. I like Wright's commercial where he is situationally training. Classic. Anyways, just thought everyone would want to know.

It would take another sweep of the Phils (in Miami), the Braves losing two of three to the Pirates, and the Mets sweeping the Brewers on the road

Good luck dudes

Florida or Washington could be in first after 3 more games

the division is that close

its interesting how every division in baseball has at least one shitty team, except for the NL East

(at least record-wise)

I honestly don't know how Santana doesn't go on a murderous rage ten times a year. It has to be infuriating to pitch as well as he does night in and night out and keep getting no decisions.

Guy has a 3.10 ERA on the year and that INCLUDES giving up 10 ER over 3 innings in one game. He'll finish like around 2.60 or 2.70 likely and have 12-14 wins. Stupid.

Beltran is running again. Playing in an extended spring game this week and then rehab stint likely starting next week. Should be good to go probably around June 20th or so. Great news.

Jerry Manuel can't be dumb enough to put Pagan on the bench, can he? At has to be Francoeur. Right? Right? Please tell me I'm right.
