Too bad Sidney's bitch (Dino) left.

Hewitt is scared shitless at what Lowe can do with equal talent. He pissed himself last night thinking about what's coming to him next year when State will arguably have more talent than him

Maybe we can steal Melvin Tabb if Leslie doesn't pan out.

He also has NBA connections and actually had one pretty successful year in the NBA (6 seed in the West like six seasons ago)... I don't hate the hire, but I wonder how Wake will like the offense. I've long said you CAN win with that offense if you build it correctly -- look at JT III.

Though I'm sure Wake fans probably look at it much the same as a lot of people looked at the Lowe hiring.

They just set themselves up for being terrible for at least 3 seasons with this hire, they could have kept Gaudio and had a decent year next year with the recruiting class they had coming in. I don't see how you're going to fire a coach for not having success in the post season, and then hire a coach who's had even less success in the post season.

do we really want Tabb? I haven't read much about him but the little I did read talked about how he seemed like the 3rd best guy on his high school team and would disappear from the game for long periods of time. if sidney says he's cool, then i trust him. i wish we could put in a call to that dieng guy from last night but i'm sure a bunch of head coaches are doing that today.

Not if we can get Leslie, but if the choice is between taking Tabb or saving the scholly for the next year I'd take Tabb in a hearbeat. I think we need another skilled big man to compliment Smith and Howell, especially considering how Painter and Vandy played this past season. Sure he struggled with consistency but doesn't just about every high school player?

Coach K isn't scared but he is a little worried. Sidney has beaten him twice already with VASTLY inferior teams.

Tabb is overrated. He didn't get an offer (when he wanted one from us) for a reason.

Vandy will get more minutes this year and I think he'll be more productive. He was obviously raw coming in; we all knew that, but he was effective at the defensive end of the floor. He had trouble posting up to smaller, stronger guys but with another year of weight training and coaching, I think he'd make a great backup center. His big problem is on offense. He's used to the international style of play where you can face toward the basket all the time and get up your shot. He didn't understand how to play underneath the basket but he's been playing the other way for 18 years so hopefully he learn from tracy how to use his body. He won't ever be great scorer, but I could see him on the all-defensive team by the time his senior season rolls around.

Painter is more of a question mark to me. I didn't get to see him play all that much and I don't even remember him stepping onto the floor during the postseason. With Tracy leaving, we have to count on both these guys and howell to step it up in the coming years.

Yes, but we continued to pursue other post guys (like Cothron for example) while Lesle was committed. If Lowe thought he would have worked out well for us, he would have offered him considered Leslie is a 1-2 year player while Tabb was viewed as a 4 year guy

Saying Tabb is overrated is all well and good, but if we don't get Leslie who are you thinking that we'll get in 2011 that's better than Tabb? Quincy Miller? Gimme a break.

^as far as I can tell Lawson is marginally better, if at all...I think adding depth at the PF position THIS YEAR would be advantageous because I'd rather have a decent big man with a year of experience under his belt when Smith leaves than a decent big man with no college experience.

When Smith leaves Painter or Vandy will take his spot. Each of the two will have more experience than Tabb would (frankly if Tabb were added to our roster he wouldn't play much next year, Painter and Vandy will both see decent minutes). If the NBA lockout happens Leslie might be here 2 years for sure. Going after Tabb doesn't really make sense for us.

Lawson is 100 times more athletic than Tabb and has a LOT more potential, btw

Which is what I'm worried about.

Obviously I'm talking about practicing against higher caliber players, being in a college weight program, etc. not just playing time.

according to you, and I'd be willing to bet you haven't seen either of them play in person (or if you did it was only once).

I've seen them both a couple times. Saw Tabb play a few AAU games. Lawson is a freak athlete, and Tabb is somewhere closer to Howell

Things Vandy and Painter will have 2 years of before one of them will be starting

I was impressed with Tabb both times I saw him play, granted it was high school games and not AAU but still. Isn't Georgetown on Lawson? That seems like a tough recruiting battle to win.

Frankly I thought Painter pretty much sucked last year, maybe he'll improve significantly but I wouldn't count on it. Vandy will be solid defensively I'm sure but whether he'll develop an offensive game is still a pretty big question mark.

Painter has a ton of potential and is still very raw. Vandy is the same way. Both need more mass, Painter has a lot of learning, and Vandy needs to polish his offense. Both need to learn how to not be foul machines

Word is that if we gave Lawson a committable offer we'd be one of his favorites and be in very good standing to land him

They improved every year he was there, not saying it was a good hire but I imagine it's fairly difficult to be successful at Northern Colorado. Also Colorado is one of the worst jobs in a BCS conference, they don't have any money, play in a shit arena, aren't in an area with much basketball talent to recruit, and they've been to the tourney twice since the 60's.

He has a whole season of coaching experience learning from BUZZ PETERSON!

Now the challenge will be finding a junior assistant to sit on his bench. Kris Lang? Adam Boone? Any assistants that began their coaching career mid-season this year?

Oregon finally hired a coach: Creighton's Dana Altman...less than impressive hire IMO. Here's a gem from Oregon's former AD on the hire:
Quote :
"We had literally five national championship coaches showed an interest in our job and three of them would have taken it. The perception that people didn't want the job couldn't have been further from the truth," he said. "It was all about getting this right. We could not afford to make a mistake here."

riiiight.

That quote is just hilarious. Dana Altman is a pretty good coach though, but still wasn't the splash hire that Phil Knight and Nike Oregon wanted.

i don't know much about either school, and i know iowa state has basically no basketball... but that surprises me. maybe it's not actually surprising.

^he was probably going to get the axe after another year at Iowa State, he'll have a longer leash at Ceighton. Iowa State actually had a pretty good run in basketball from the late 80's through the early 00's but it's one of the worst high major jobs.
