Yea basically, energy required to heat water is fairly linear. The specific heat of water changes as the water temperature changes and the formula for heating water is Energy = Specific Heat * mass * deltaT, however the range of temperature you are talking about for a water heater is so small that the specific heat is basically constant. 4/7/2010 4:41:45 PM |

There is no food in my house. Thus, in lieu of dinner, I took a couple of Tylenol PM, a couple of shots of Nyquil and a few swigs of wine. Yay for the Nyquil diet/budget!
Also, I have yet to turn on the A/C yet and my house has been over 80 degrees every day. But I'm cold if the temp is below 78 anyway, so that's no big deal. 4/27/2010 8:55:09 PM |

Still awake!
I stock my house with napkins and condiments from fast food restaurants.
I also don't have a TV and I read free books/magazines for entertainment. Free books and magazines come from the free pile at work. Sometimes they suck, but they're entertaining anyway!

No more buying drinks at work. Going from $3-4 a day to about $0.75 by taking three 12 ounce cans with me. Assuming I work 250 days a year, that means I'll save $600 to $800 a year, wish I started doing this sooner. 4/27/2010 9:42:57 PM |

Instead of going out to lunch at 8 to 10 dollars per day, I have a PB sandwich, which costs approx 50 cents. Total cost savings: approx $2,250 to $2850 per year 4/27/2010 9:48:22 PM |

Does anybody have any actual numbers on the whole unplugging the DVR thing? It just seems kinda weird to me, if you are willing to pay that much extra to have DVR why aren't you willing to pay what I can only imagine would be a very small increase in the power bill? If it is a decent amount though, I might consider it... 4/27/2010 10:49:25 PM |

I also like to hang out by the dumpster and ask people if they're really throwing some items away. Usually they'll give me stuff that I can sell for a few bucks on craigslist. 5/2/2010 5:44:32 PM |

^ at goodwill or other thrift stores too that happens when people are dropping shit off. i mean you can even find stuff you actually NEED if you're lucky. my aunt needed a stroller to walk her dog in (don't ask) but she wasn't going to buy a new one (duh) so she went to goodwill or something and some dude was unloading a stroller to donate and she asked him about and he just gave it to her! 5/2/2010 5:46:32 PM |

with comcast it was cheaper to bundle the high speed internetz and the basic $13 cable package than just getting internet alone. then i just didnt turn in the box, and still got the local broadcast channels in hd.
that was my old place.
