why did the Chemist just not dream up a rocket launcher or a grenade launcher himself when they were all in the van on the bridge? they enter the 1st layer and in the subsequent scenes all the military type guys show up and start shooting at them. they get to the warehouse and the baddies start surrounding the place where the one guy is taking shots at the guy behind the power transformers up on the opposite roof. another guy comes in with a grenade launcher and says "gotta dream bigger" or something like that. so wouldnt any of them be able to do that?

^ good read. There are so many ways to spin the movie and support whatever you think about it but I think that the last line of the interview is pretty solid:

Quote :
"Everyone's so concerned about whether the top falls or not, but no one seems to care that Leo walked away without caring. The moment he sees their face, he can walk away. That's testimony to the fact that he's gained that faith."

I know a few people in here have already mentioned that same thing basically but I just wanted to quote that. I have seen a ton of different ideas presented that people backed up with stuff from the movie (even if the support was small or a stretch) and it has been fun to read. However, I still feel strongly that the point Nolan was trying to hammer home at the end of the film (while the totem was spinning) was that Leo took the leap of faith. He was happy and didn't second guess his reality and wasn't burdened by the guilt for the first time in a long time. I think the top was shown for that reason first and most importantly and not to make us second guess whether he was really still in a dream.

Of course there is nothing wrong with approaching the movie from all the angles everyone is and analyzing it the way they are. Especially since the point quoted above can still exist as part of the many scenarios where most/all the movie was a dream.

what a killer interview, I agree with pretty much everything he says. Its funny that he says it was raining in his dream because he had to pee

also a couple things I read earlier on another message board:

-it is very unlikely that the entire movie was a dream due to the simple fact that it would be nearly impossible for the architect to design an entire world for the dreamer to interact in. I mean it is possible, but would be really hard as they travel to Mumbasa and other random locations.

-as far as whether or not the top falls: it doesnt really matter because Cobb has reached his goal, his happy place, no matter which level he was on thats exactly where he would want to be. So even if he was in limbo the whole time, at least he is at peace with his kids and doesnt have the guilt of his wife anymore. If he was in reality, then he would have the same level of happiness. Another thing I thought of was that he would eventually see if the top was still spinning or fell, so he would know whats going on whenever he went back into the dining room.

-if Mal really did "wake herself up" by jumping off of the building, dont you think the first thing she would do is try to wake Cobb up?

After a lot of thought, and after reading just about every theory out there, I think that everything is in reality. I dont think it matters either way since Cobb is in his happy place, but if I had to take a stance on what was going on between the Cobb's dream, Mal's dream, Juno/Saito planting an inception on Cobb theories, I would lean towards the idea that everything is how we saw it, they are in the real world.

^ it was mentioned in the movie. in level one, when they first picked him up at the street corner, they were joking that he had too much free champagne to drink on the plane.

I know that, I just figured that is why he was standing on the corner - because he went to use a bathroom somewhere and needed to be picked up - leading to the joke. I didnt think that his need to pee caused it to rain in his dream world.

ahh yes, I forgot to mention that too. That was the first thing I thought of after someone was talking about the angle where the whole thing takes place in N-1 with Mal jumping and waking up and him staying behind. I'm sure she would have tried and he would have had to have been on some serious sedatives to not wake up with whatever she tried if he was stuck in n-1.

**Spoilers**

I pretty much agree with this article's take on the ending

http://screenrant.com/inception-spoilers-discussion-kofi-68330/3/

The ending isn't meant to have a definitive answer, it was purposely left open to interpretation in order to make the point that the concept of reality is relative. I know a lot of people don't like it when things don't have a definitive answer (look at the fit thrown over the Sopranos finale) but that's the case here. Here's a guy who was so obsessed with "reality" that he was ready to shoot himself in the head earlier in the movie if the top didn't fall over and in the end he walks away from it without even waiting to see what happens. Cobb doesn't care what is and isn't "reality" anymore because reality is a relative concept, the point of not providing a definitive answer in the ending is that neither should we.

Yea, assuming otherwise is just wishful thinking. The point is the director could have EASILY put in a couple clues, subtle or not, that would definitely have answered it. But answering it would ruin the entire fucking theme of the movie.

this is a pretty nerdy interpretation and i don't know that I agree with it but I think a agree that the whole film is a dream.

part that makes me question whether the whole film was a dream was that the top actually fell in that scene when he was holding the pistol near his head

yeah, I absolutely dont agree with that article. The writer really lost me when he started going into the director, producer, screenwriter metaphors, I've heard the theory of the movie being a metaphor for movies/books/etc. but they never went as far as calling out characters as parts of the filming process.

from the article above:
Quote :
"There's more than a slim chance that she's right - note that when Cobb remembers her suicide she is, bizarrely, sitting on a ledge opposite the room they rented. You could do the logical gymnastics required to claim that Mal simply rented another room across the alleyway, but the more realistic notion here is that it's a dream, with the gap between the two lovers being a metaphorical one made literal."

logical gymnastics....

this guy doesn't realize he's doing them constantly throughout the article.

mal framed murder on cobb. the hard part to believe is that she could also then rent two hotel rooms????

bizarre? Makes perfect sense to me. She set up the wrecked room so Cobb knew he was framed. Mal bought the opposite room so she could talk to him across the gap. He can't stop her, and she can convince him to join in jumping.

All the things in that movie, and THAT is what you people have a problem with? I'll believe they can just enter another persons dream. I'll believe they can go so deep in those dreams they can be stuck in limbo. I'll believe this this and this but FUCK IF THAT WOMAN CAN FIGURE OUT A WAY TO BOOK 2 HOTEL ROOMS!!!

the booking two rooms is the least of the evidence that supports the entire film being a dream.

She could have easily booked the rooms a long time ago, seeing as how she said she would have killed herself a long time ago but didnt because she loved cobb too much, which indicates that she's been thinking about killing herself for a while.

yeah it's not 3D Imax nor Imax film, but I will say the Imax theatre sound qualities made the entire experience and +$2 cost worth it. Hans Zimmer score in IMAX sound was awesome.

Nolan loves the IMAX camera, but none of Inception was filmed with it.

^parts were filmed in 65mm, they couldn't shoot imax because they couldn't handhold the bulky ass camera, but the 65mm translates better to imax than straight 35mm.

Where the hell is Imax only 2 dollars more?

Here in Charlotte, its 5 bucks for regular movies and 14 for Imax, almost triple the cost

So it has to be like Christina Hendricks' tits in 3D for me to justify that

the AMC near me has both Real 3D screens and a true IMAX/IMAX 3D screen.

but the more i'm reading about it, this may be an "IMAX-lite" location. These have the same projection and sound technologies as true IMAX theatres like in Raleigh, but on a smaller screen.

Quote :
"The screens used by IMAX multiplex locations range in size from 47' x 24' to 74' x 46' and those in classic IMAX locations range from 51' x 37' to 117' x 96'. "

Honestly, one of my new favorite movies.

Question:
Eventually, you can and will get out of Limbo once the sedative wears off, correct? It isn't a matter of getting out of Limbo, it is more of a question of getting out of Limbo with your mind intact, right?

^ not sure. I would assume this to be true, however, people do go in comas for a lifetime. I think though, that the movie is interpreted that you will get out of limbo eventually.
