I messed up during the year, completely forgot and ended up going to Chik-fila with my sister. Then there was the time I had the frosty from Wendy's.

Currently I haven't had any fast food for a long time, I don't know when the last time even was.

"I gained weight throughout all of 2010; even after I cut out fast food. Good for you on losing the weight, but there is a lot more to good health than just weight gain or weight loss. I agree fully on the moderation and meal choices thing, but you make it sound like eating a salad is torturous and fast food is great tasting. I disagree on both points."

This. It goes all directions though. Cutting out all "bad food" is great and there are tons of benefits, including weight loss. But it means little if you don't exercise regularly and cut other vices such as overindulging alcohol. Having a McDs burger and fries a time or two a month isn't exactly the end of the world if you eat clean mostly and workout hard.

Converesely -- and this is my problem -- you can lead a very energetic life being active and fit but it means little if you eat like a complete pig.

Sounds like you (and other ITT) are just after the bragging rights to say you've gone X number of days without eating fast food. There's no harm in eating fast food once in a while.

That's certainly true. Just like the "I don't watch TV" people. I guess part of that stems from people's experience with someone they knew that didn't eat fast food (or watch TV) and they flaunted it all over the place and tried to make others feel like their life decisions were inferior compared to theirs.

Did you see the simpsons last night?
I don't watch TV.
Next 10 minutes spent talking about how long it has been since they even owned a TV and how great a change cutting out TV has made in their lives.

Or in the case of fast food, knowing the exact number of days it's been since the last deadly sin of eating that noxious small fry on that dreadful day of yore and relating that information freely to anyone that will hear has ears. Oh, you eat fast food. Well, I guess that's ok for some people.

1 year of no fast food, exactly 1 serving of red meat over the past 2 years and exactly zero refined sugar in the past 2 years has helped me go from:

235 lbs, size XL shirt, size 38/40 pants

to:

170 lbs, size M shirt, size 31/32 pants

You went from the girl to a campfire too?

I see your point I guess, but I also see a distinction between things that have a direct effect on your body/mind and things that don't. I really do try to avoid the conversation about how I don't eat fast food, but sometimes people pry really hard and it is just unavoidable.

I also did a 3 month stint with no alcohol this year. That was difficult in similar ways. I went to parties, I acted as the DD a ton of times, and I tried not to be "that guy"; but some people seemed really offended that I wouldn't drink on their birthday or at their party. I think I see it as disrespectful in some ways. If I decide that I'm not happy with some aspect of my life and make a change I really want my circle of friends to be supportive. I would do the same for them even if it were dealing with a vice that might not have a negative impact on my own life.

Y'all forget the whole excercise thing....is it that foreign? I dont eat much fastfood (if so, chicken) but I go out each day for lunch to a restuarant (heck, some of the staff and these places know me and know what I will order already). I also run a hour a day/6 days a week and have been doing that since I graduated from HS. When I first started running I lost all the way to around 155pds, I looked unhealthy, and then I went to 170pds and I have stayed that for about 13 years now. Whenever I go to the the doc and I get weighed, almost always is 170, give or take a pound or two. I work fulltime and I still find the time to do my hour running, whether extremely late at night or early in the morning come rain or snow.....

Heck, my old old old jeans back in HS, I can STILL wear them....lol and I graduated from college in 2003.
