To be that nerd, I wouldn't put the average of a general population of girls at 5. It should be lower. If you look around and think you are only better than half the girls around you, that doesn't mean you are a 5.

Plus all the hot chicks don't hang around in random places.

I'm not too picky about specific attributes. I won't consider a girl with a busted face/grill or one that's very overweight. Beyond that, it's really a case by case basis kind of thing.

Social skills/intelligence are what determine if I'll develop any real interest in the girl. If they're dumb, I'm not going to be able to communicate with them on a level to make anything happen, anyway. I think ugly chicks are more likely to have weird personalities, just due to the fact that they never got much attention. Really pretty girls tend to be more confident. It's all connected.

The "endless student" is kind of a turn off. You know, the type that aims to spend their entire life entrenched in academia, with no ambitions beyond that. Yeah, I know you think you're going to change the world with your Ph.D. in Women's Studies, and your naivete is beyond annoying.

thing's ive been doing wrong

1) being ugly
2) being fat
3) dressing like a hobo (since i've been in grad school, pretty much all i wear to work is hobo clothes, but when i go out in public i return to normal twenty-something female garb and yes i like 'designer' stuff but who cares if you're fat amirite?)
4) being myself and always cracking jokes/saying whatever pops in my head which isn't always 'nice' or 'ladylike'

things i've been doing right

1) stopped being a crazy bitch almost 3 years ago, congrats to me! it comes with some brutal life lessons and general maturing
2) baking/excelling at domesticated skills like cleaning/nurturing/blahblah
3) having a vagina

There was a thread on TWW once that was a revelation to me. It was quoted that studies show: "Most men find most women attractive, but most women don't think most men are attractive at all." That freaked me out. It also explained a lot.

To me explained why women are so tough on themselves. Most men can find something attractive in most women (and not just the fact they have tits). I appreciate the full range of women's appearances. I think some men just feed women's insecurities so that they get laid. Clue to women, most men find you attractive.

Actually, i would agree that most men find most women attractive but that doesn't mean you'd see more hot dudes with average/ugly women. Just because you find someone attractive doesn't mean that you don't find another person MORE attractive. Since these hot dudes find someone more attractive and can get them then they pass on the lesser attractive girls.

I used to focus on really hot girls and that worked well for me, especially in undergrad, but my new thing is 6, 7 and low 8's that have a little added sass to them. These girls are usually more down to earth and have personalities that far exceed those of the remaining upper bound.

I tried to validate the statement, "Most men find most woman attractive, but most women don't find most men attractive at all.", but I couldn't do it. Some interesting things I did find when researching attractiveness are:

1) Men are more consistent when rating attractiveness. Women are all over the place.

2) Women find men who smile less attractive than men who scowl. (That might explain a lot - especially since I smile a lot).

3) Women are turned on by men with a lot of other women around them. Men are turned off by women surrounded by men.

#1 makes sense, considering men are more predictable in what appeals to them as far as a woman's figure for example

for #2... I would think it depends on the guy. Some guys look like "Beta males" when they smile and that may subconsciously turn women off.

#3 is definitely true. Maybe it's because when a guy sees a chick with a bunch of dudes, he may assume the worst--"shes's a flirt/cocktease" or depending on the situation "she must have hooked up with a lot of those dudes." Whereas when a girl sees a guy surrounded by women, she thinks "what is it about this guy that makes other women want to be around him? What am I missing?"
