Torry Holt was a 1998 Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, American Football Coaches Association, The Sporting News and Football News All-American.

He was not, however, a Walter Camp All-American.

That's good enough to be called a Consensus All-American. Apparently you only need more than half of the organizations (minus Football News, screw those guys) listed above.

i was gonna say i remember Mario being an All American

you'd think the only ACC player taken 1st overall in the NFL draft would be one of the better college players in the nation the previous season...

Is Rivers the only Ring Of Honor name that's not on that list?

I believe so. Rivers probably got his number retired because of all the records he set. He would later go on to be named 2004 ACC Athlete of the Year.

So...what's the deal with all-time records? We know he has the ACC single season record for ints. What about the NCAA single season record?

[Edited on December 27, 2011 at 11:58 PM. Reason : Google says he is second all-time if that's correct]

Amazing he did that in 10 games per Wikipedia

Also, FYI, I believe Dre Bly had 11 in the regular season and 2 in the postseason as well, but much like what you're seeing with Ted Brown, they didn't count postseason in those stats back then. Thus, technically, Amerson has the ACC record.

Either way, I'll take it!

Excellent quote from Huffington Post article on Amerson

Quote :
"Amerson has more interceptions than his closest competitor in the nation."

Amerson had 205 yards on 13 interceptions (16 yards per interception), including 2 pick sixes.

I think they threw at his guy once and completed it.

The next time was the pick 6

The final throw he picked off wasn't thrown to his guy I don't think. It was a heave to the center of the field....we might have been in zone because we had everyone there.

That's all I can remember. They didn't even throw his way in the first half.

haha yea, they threw at him once and completed.. and they're like 'ok maybe this guy isn't so bad, lets try it again', and i believe it was the very next play that amerson had the pick-6.

if i remember correctly, maryland didn't really go his way much. it'll be nice next year, all the offenses will have to keep track of where he is on the field. probably won't get anywhere near the same number of INTs, though.

^Maryland ran a double move on Amerson and got a wide open TD. MD game was not exactly a bright spot for the defense

Stolen from the NC State athletics facebook

Quote :
" David Amerson's incredible performance is nominated for Defensive Performance of the Year! Intersport is producing the All-Star Football Challenge television special, airing on ESPN2 Super Bowl Weekend (Feb. 3 at 7pm ET). The show reveals the "Defensive Performance of the Year," which is determined by fan voting on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/AllStarFootball) throughout the season. Voting starts today and ends Friday, Jan. 6 at 9:59 am ET."

Go to the link, I guess hit "like", then go to the defense tab. Amerson is currently only winning 93%-7%, he needs your help!
