Only seen him a few times, but came away very impressed. Seems more suited to an attacking winger role though and with Young, Nani and Valencia I'm curious how much time he'll get at the outset.

Oh, my sides! Looks like Liverpool may have priced themselves out of professional soccer.

Quote :
"Swanea are believed to have turned down an offer worth £12.5 million for the midfielder last month, and Laudrup said: “He is worth a lot of money because he's a good player. We saw they bought a couple of midfielders in the last few years for a lot of money but, with all due respect, Joe [Allen] is on a level above.

“In my opinion, if one is worth £17 million then Joe is worth more, perhaps over £20 million. I'm talking as a football man, not as a chairman - but if the chairman asks my advice then I will tell him the same.”"

Also, Cazorla to Arsenal official.

It's hard to believe that Spain's midfield is so good that Arteta has never had a senior cap.

Twitter lighting up on RvP to United... Today.

Hope he enjoys being treated worse than Nasri and Adebayor.

Hmmmm, where would the money go? Sahin? M'Vila?

SAF playing the victim again. Like he's never spent massively big on young players before... And yes, Wenger bitches a lot too but he actually has conviction when he does it. He doesn't complain about PSG spending £35m on 19 yo Lucas when he spent £25m on 18 yo Rooney NINE years ago.

I know I was defending him previously in the thread (and I still think he's a decent player) but holy fuck 15 for Allen looks stupid when Arsenal just got Cazorla for 16.

Quote :
"Honestly, we just can't understand why Arsenal won't just roll over and do what Fergie tells them. Why won't they just be nice and sell their captain and best player to a rival team for a knockdown price? "We're not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal," said Sir about Robin van Persie. "It's difficult to say why they're operating this way." Hmmm. What a puzzle. "

It means that when Wenger complains about the teams throwing around exorbitant amounts of cash he can say it without being a hypocrite considering Arsenals record transfer is £15-17m. Whereas SAF has thrown around £30-33m deals to younger players like Rooney and Ferdidnand in the past. Shit, his "investment for the future" of Phil Jones was higher than any fee Wenger has ever paid for!

And im not complaining about doing it. Fair play if you have the money, but don't bitch about others doing it if you've done it all along.

every manager whines, it's in the job description.

we were never going to sign lucas though. £35m is about £20m more than we've actually got play around with.

i don't particularly care about signing RvP either. he's 29, injury prone, and we're not that thin at striker, therefore not worth what arsenal is asking. if juventus comes in with a bid similar to whatever we offered, i'm sure arsenal jump at it.

our signings are normally done pretty quietly, not like the public back and forth like there was with lucas, and now with RvP. my hope is that it's a smokescreen to distract from our efforts to strengthen left back or midfield.

please, wenger is as full of shit as anyone. he complains that other teams "destroy his work" by poaching his players but he's done the same shit. Montpellier win their first ever title, and wenger swoops in for their top scorer. arsenal are a selling club by choice, not necessity. they earn just as well as the biggest clubs but they refuse to pay their players even close to what other clubs do (even if you don't count City or PSG, etc.) so they're always going to leave and wenger has nothing to complain about.

It's pointless to argue with a United fan about SAF. I will say they tend to have a normal wage structure unlike the oil teams. And, again, I don't care that he buys but Arsenal buying a player at market value such as Giroud is what every team in the world does. Wenger/SAF would never take issue with that I'm sure.

Arsenal simply won't spend more than they make like 99.9% of the elite clubs in the world. If that makes them a "selling club" I guess they are.

So what happens with Welbeck? He'll have to struggle to get regular first team action now, right? Rooney and RvP have to be first choice. Welbeck is too young and good not to get regular first team action.

RvP isn't a done deal yet, right? The latest I heard was Man U was wrapping up Angelo Henriquez.

As for Welbeck, he's working on signing a new 5-year-deal.

Decent rumors/news for Liverpool lately

-Nuri Sahin thinking about coming to pool because of Xabi Alonso? Awesome.
-Rumors of Cristian Tello coming on loan. I don't know much about him but if he's good enough for Barcelona, he's good enough for me.
-New contract for Skrtel
-Agger apparently wants to stay
-Allen deal is done

Adding Borini, Allen, Dempsey, Sahin, and Tello and not losing anybody of real importance (I think Bellamy would have been good in BR's system though) would be a pretty damn good window for a team outside CL.

Half of that is rumors and we still don't know what'll happen with Agger though.

Didnt Sahin turn down Spurs when they requested him on loan as part of the Modric transfer because of no CL? Why would he turn around and go to Anfield? I'll categorize that as one I'll believe when I see.

Tello would be a good under the radar signing. He impressed the times I saw him in Barcas A team.

[Edited on August 15, 2012 at 8:23 AM. Reason : Sahin to Anfield makes sense only if it's perm; not one year loan]

Quote :

don't agree with that at all. Why would he want to permanently go to a team that hasn't been in CL for a while and doesn't have a high probability of doing so next season either? Also, if it's perm, Liverpool more than likely can't (or won't) choose to spend that kind of money after spending around 26 already without selling anybody.

Not sure how much it matters but there's also a Mourinho-Rodgers connection that might factor in to his decision.

You're right, I'll believe it when I see it but this isn't coming from lunatic message boards. There are respected journalists saying there's legitimate interest.

Quote :
"According to the website Sport24, Emile Heskey has turned down the chance to move to South Africa and play for Kaizer Chiefs, and has instead chosen to try for a move to the MLS.

No specific MLS club is mentioned, leading us to think the big man is just going to drive around the States, rocking up at various stadiums and asking if anyone will give him a game."

I forgot Mourinho worked with Rogers at Chelsea. Makes a little more sense though I'm not sure why he denounced Spurs over no CL and then turns around and agrees Liverpool. Guess Xabi Alonso has some pull..

Knew it was going that way for a while. Fuck him. Hope it kills Welbeck's progression, too, though RvP will probably be injured by October anyway.

On the plus side the Piers Morgan meltdown should be epic.
