Nice to see that the Tigers are all a bunch of butthurt pussies. Cabrera didn't get hit, didn't even really get close to being hit. So.... 1st inning they intentionally hit Ben Zobrist. Leyland is a bitch and Cabrera is a pussy.

So.. does Puig deserve to be in the all-star game this year?

I hate to agree with epic douche, Jonathan Papelbon, and I think he's going to end up in the top 10 in the NL MVP vote at years end, but I don't think he's had enough game time to justify putting him in the all-star game.

Derek Jeter hasn't had a single plate appearance this year but he's the leading vote getter among AL shortstops

so it doesn't really matter if Puig gets in or not

The all-star game is kind of a joke anyway and will be as long as they keep that stupid participation ribbon mentality of every team having an all-star. The fan voting has gotten better recently, but it's pretty rare that they get it right, especially in deep positions like the outfield.

I like that every team gets represented. It means every fan has someone to watch.

I like when awards are based on merit. If you aren't in the top couple of people at your position you don't deserve to be in the all-star game. What's more, if you have to represent every team it means that you're taking a spot from someone who deserves it for someone who doesn't. MLB doesn't need the equivalent of shitty team affirmative action.

Seriously? No one gives a shit about fielding, they never have in the all-star game. Cabrera is a liability in the field, Jeter has always been one of the worst fielding SS in the majors but that never hurt him. Honestly, with the exception of having a cannon for an arm in the outfield no one pays attention to fielding when it comes to all-star voting. Most fans have no idea about things like range factor, defensive WAR, etc.

The NL west is a god damn joke

Quote :

So cal Ripken got All star votes because he hits home runs

Next you're goin to say pitchers don't even play in the all star game because they will be replaced with pitching machines.
Where's the gif of him kicking a fair ball into the stands trying to field

No, Ripken got all-star votes because he was the best player at his position all around for about a decade, because he was one of America's most beloved players, the chase after Gehrig's record, etc. He certainly made several all-star appearances he didn't deserve based off of reputation rather than merit.

I'm not saying fielding doesn't matter, it's just an incredibly minor consideration when it comes to the fans doing all-star voting. It's not really much of a consideration for gold gloves to be honest. Hell, Omar Vizquel was only a 3 time all-star and he's one of the better fielding short stops of all time and a probable hall of famer down the line. He was hurt by the fact that he put up shitty offensive numbers and spent his peak years in Cleveland.

As long as it's a fan and manager choice there will continue to be many, many stupid selections.

Pretty sure when you pull up all star voting they show you ba, hr, rbi, and sb.. Fielding is irrelevant for like 99% of voters

Cal Ripken has over 400 hrs.. He did everything pretty well

AL Starters
C: Joe Mauer, Twins
1B: Chris Davis, Orioles
2B: Robinson Cano, Yankees
SS: J.J. Hardy, Orioles
3B: Miguel Cabrera, Tigers
OF: Mike Trout, Angels
OF: Adam Jones, Orioles
OF: Jose Bautista, Blue Jays
DH: David Ortiz, Red Sox

NL Starters
C: Yadier Molina, Cardinals
1B: Joey Votto, Reds
2B: Brandon Phillips, Reds
SS: Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies
3B: David Wright, Mets
OF: Carlos Beltran, Cardinals
OF: Carlos Gonzalez, Rockies
OF: Bryce Harper, Nationals

Teams actually look pretty good except for Harper, he doesn't deserve it. That spot should have been one of Cuddyer, McCutchen, or Dominic Brown.

[Edited on July 6, 2013 at 7:01 PM. Reason : Ahh Goldschmidt def should have gotten it over Votto, forgot about him]

Lincecum threw a no-no.

148 pitches and 13 Ks

Mariners have hit a HR in 21 straight games. Not bad for a team who was one of the worst last year and Morse has been on the DL for a whiiiile. Raul Ibanez line for the year is 24 HR/55 RBI/.267 AVG...not bad for a 41 yr old.

Davis hit his 36th. Pretty sweet. Maybe he will beat Bond's record so we can no longer deal with his shit.

^ He's got no chance to hit 74. He has a chance to hit 62 which would make him the first "clean" player to do that. I hate that we have to speculate on everything like this now. I personally still consider 61 and 755 to be the HR marks for others to beat. I really hope Davis and Miggy are not on some type of PED.

anyways, with it being the last game before the ASG, I was able to carefully study the Cards/Cubs game last night with my Baseball Prospectus and Excel up and running...

holy shit the Cards have a stacked lineup. Maybe the best pure hitting team I have ever seen.

Yeah the Cards have really put together a damn nice lineup. They have got to be the odds on favorites to win the whole thing right now. Scary thing is that the lineup is young and will only get better. Plus Freese hasn't done much and they are still mashing...
