I can't help but think the Pacers are making a mistake in the long run. They're putting so much time, energy, and effort into being kings of the regular season. As a young team I don't think they realize that the regular season means jack shit. The Heat tried that in the first Lebron/Bosh year and it didn't work out so well with the Mavs, then they wised up.

You see the smarter teams around league going deep into their benches nightly and resting guys. The Heat are going 6 and 7 deep when Oden plays and Pop is always shifting lineups for periodic rest. The Pacers starters never get nights off and they rarely go past Watson, Granger, and Scola on the bench.

All for what too? Homecourt? If Miami goes in there and wins game 1 then that plan is all shot to hell for months of work.

I won't be surprised if a key player ends up injured or they eventually wear down at some point in the playoffs.

I think locking up home court is always beneficial. the league as a whole is on the downsize. that's not the pacer fault they're are good. They need to win enough games to keep the heat at bay. The heat dont give a damn about the #1 seed but I really believed it help them out last year. the Heat defense is horrendous this year especially on the perimeter. But we cant really judge these things until the all star break.

Spurs are bringing it as well as Portland and the thunder.

I think Kevin Durant might win MVP. the man is putting up major numbers without westbrook.

My overarching point is that homecourt is overrated. Game 7 doesn't matter if it never gets there.

If Kevin Durant wins the MVP, congrats, but don't get it twisted as he isn't the best player in the NBA. He's the best scorer. Big difference.

It's impossible to argue against Lebron in his prime.

agreed. MVP isn't giving to the best player year in and year out. cough Derrick Rose cough.

they changed the playoff structure in the finals too this year.

I'm glad they switched back to the 2-2-1-1-1

Steve Nash got it a couple times when everyone knew Kobe was at the top of his game too

^ gg responding to your own post. Also I like the 2-2-1-1-1 format much moreso than 2-3-2 as there is no way a home team should lose a series in which they played less games at home than their opponent.

LOL to at "waste of energy" - big fucking deal. A few more airline flights.

http://nba.si.com/2014/01/16/paul-george-miami-heat-indiana-pacers-playoffs-home-court-advantage/

When asked by Showtime’s Jim Rome this week if the Heat can beat the Pacers without home-court advantage this season, All-Star forward Paul George said he doesn’t see that happening.

“We don’t,” George said. “I mean, we know how well we play at home. We’re one of the best teams in the postseason last year defending our home court. We just know how big home-court advantage is when it comes down to postseason. That’s one of our main goals this year is to lock up the first seed so we can have the opportunity to play at home throughout the whole playoffs.

Once you lose a home game the other team has homecourt advantage so you are no longer "the home team". Thats true in any format.

The carbon footprint "a few extra flights" is more than the average family for an entire year. Its a big deal.

been kinda busy havent been following the nba much.

Crazy that Durant already passed lebron this year. I thought we were another 2-3 years away from that.

Guess everyone is ready to admit i was right. Had the thunder traded westbrook instead of harden they'd be one of the greatest teams in nba history. so dumb that they broke up a true dynasty.

Why in the hell are they wasting Durant's prime with Scott Brooks? He is just murdering the rotations this year

Did you watch the London games in 2012? KD already surpass LBJ IN 2012!
KD is one of the greatest scorers in NBA history.

Passed him? Because he won a single regular season game? How many MVP's, Finals MVP's and rings does Durant have again?

You can hear an echo in that trophy case.

3× NBA scoring champion
FIBA World Championship MVP

LBJ gets most of his MVPs and rings after he joined Heat.
KD is 5 yrs younger than LBJ, but he is already the leader of the national team

Lebron could be the scoring champion every year if he chose to be that selfish. I didn't realize they gave out rings for scoring champions either...

Durant won the MVP of an exhibition game? Cool story. No chance he is the "leader of the national team" either. Coach K would say Lebron instantly. He already called him the best player he's ever coached.

I actually like KD, but the gap between Lebron and KD isn't even close right now. If Durant doesn't win a title in the next 2 years people are going to start to wonder. Let's see him get it done with all the chips in the middle for once.

If Durant doesn't win a title in the next 2 years he'll be the same age as Lebron before Lebron won any titles

And Durant is already a much better shooter than Lebron probably ever will be

I'm sure Lebron could win the scoring title every year though from just running over people with his massive size

That's not an exhibition game. That's the basketball world cup. Much more competitive than NBA. In London, Durant definitely dominated the team also.
Coach K can give praise to everyone. But he hasn't compared these two directly.

However, Durant has surpassed LBJ in scoring, but not everything. LBJ's talent got recognized even in high school. Durant is like come from nowhere.
If he wants to earn rings, he needs to leave OKC. Go to Lakers!

Durant just keeps a low profile. He scores in a much more efficient way than LBJ or Kobe, even Jordan. Fans like LBJ better just because LBJ plays like a monster and dunks powerfully. Durant is a different style.

A top 3 coach of all time saying one player is definitely the best player he has ever coached is a much higher honor. He just compared Lebron to a lifetime of players.

KD's a good scorer, Lebron's the best player on the planet and a champion. Gigantic difference.

2008 season:

Won the MVP
Finished 2nd in the defensive player of the year vote and made first team all-defense
Led his teams in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks
Scored 49 in a playoff game vs the Magic and averaged 35 points for the playoffs that year

Durant has been better than Lebron this season.

Durant is having an absolute monster year. I haven't checked but i think he's better this season than Lebron's best season actually...

He's not an ELITE defender like Lebron but he's pretty goddam good on that end too now. Guy just morphed into a different human this offseason.

I didn't see why Durant can't beat lbj of 2008.
Very likely Durant can get a MVP. And he scores avg 31.
He has been to the final, and most important, he is already no. 1 in national team.

^ I am not surprised at all to see it happens.
He was already no. 1 in the world in London game.

but I say again Lebron is not shooter. Kevin going to shoot. 35pts a game should be child's play to him

The game last night is the battle between the new king and the old king. And the new king won. Man, that's crazy. A new dynasty is merging.
We are getting old.

Jordan surpasses Magic: 1991 Jordan was 28
Kobe surpasses Jordan: never Only when Jordan retired
Lbj surpasses Kobe: 2011 when LBJ joined Heat. Dude was 27 already.

Durant surpasses LBJ: last night Dude is only 25.

Magic was not the best in 1991, but only in that year Jordan was able to grab the championship from Lakers.
