didnt know 3 of his players are in the nba

and you can't blame a coach for juniors leaving early. you can blame the state of college basketball

however, apparently one of Silver's first priorities (new NBA commish) is making a new rule where players have to be 2 years removed from their high school class, ie no more one-and-dones...now two-and-dones are the minimum...should benefit NCAA and NBA ball both

Say what you will about our team, but at least the PNC arena isn't trying to kill spectators like Indiana.

You could if you just looked at our total wins and losses. But we've lost some games we definitely should have won and we didn't lose them because we were less talented. I think part of the late game collapse blame should fall on the coaching staff for not preparing their players. I know we have a young team and you should expect some freshman mistakes but still.

in no way whatsoever am I saying Gott should go or "feel heat" but I've been disappointed with games this season and it's not because I had super high expectations without any basis in reality. Getting straight up drilled at home to UVA and blown out start to finish at Duke/UNC - the results make sense, I guess, but not the complete lack of effort. The late game/second half collapses against Syracuse, Missouri, Clemson, and Pitt - more examples of losses that we should have expected but they were still disappointing in their own ways.

ya that's what's been so frustrating... i didn't have much expectations going into the season, but when you see the flashes of good basketball, it makes those close games we've lost/blowouts infuriating

I also agree with that. I just think as reactionary fans, it's easy for us to see us nearly beat the #1 team in the country (even though I think Kansas and Florida are better) on their home court, and think we should be able to handle Clemson at their place. Tough season though.

man it'd be so great if a sociologist did a study on NC State fans

I've been a fan since I was 5 and I feel like the bad to good ratio is a solid 20:1

The funny thing is, even if we had beaten Syracuse the other day, we would have lost tonight anyway... as we always do after beating big teams

State fans I know are pretty successful people with fulfilling lives. Can't rely on sport to be our escape from failure.

The unc fans I know seem happy but I think they are told to look that way bagging groceries.

With Lacey, Abu and the Martin twins coming in next year I keep thinking to myself WTNY. Then I remember Warren may leave and I think WTNYx2.

This team seems to play very well together when the offense is clicking. The minute we stop scoring, we don't even bother to play any semblance of defense (hurts even more with how we're normally not a very good defensive team at our best). Ends up resulting in halves like we had at Clemson, home against Pitt, and games like UVA & Duke.

Crazy with 2 McDonald's AA point guards, but one big thing Gott has to do before next season is figure out our PG position. Zero consistency from Cat or Tyler from game to game, half to half or possession to possession.

We need to win whatever we can before Colleges can start paying their players. Once that happens... we're gonna suck

wouldn't we be top half in acc donations? nope

I assume it would look something like this...

notre dame
unc
duke
syracuse
us/pitt/fsu/uva/clemson/louisville

If you go by academic endowment it looks like this though...

Notre Dame
Duke
Virginia
Pitt
BC
UNC
GT

Either way we end up around the same place or better than we are now.

Maybe that is a sign that all college are already paying their players because it looks a lot like reality in most seasons

We're basically going to be the Everton of the ACC.

I agree, and it makes sense to the realistic fanbase, but if we lose to UVA/Duke/UNC/Clemson/Pitt by 1 point and tons of effort, then Gott gets bashed for not being able to pull out close wins (IMO Mizzou & Syracuse are a different category - they made more plays at the end and beat us, I wouldn't classify them as "collapses" but meh)

This loss sucked, but I do think we are right about where we all thought we would be (realistically, maybe even a little optimistically) record-wise. Looking at the schedule pre-season, I would've swapped NCCU with Tennessee; swap @ND with @WF; swap FSU with @Clemson...probably headed for the NIT, but there's still hope & the season is still interesting

That was a give up game. The team except for Warren acted like that was a game they were expected to lose, and they played to those expectations.

fun fact: Even when we were leading at the half, pomeroy predicted us to lose.

Hahaha. Another sub-25pt half. And another no-name player has a career night against us. And another trio of 5-minute stretches with no baskets. Great coaching, Gott. Losing by 17 to fucking Clempson should be a firable offense.

It's my fault guys. I talked shit over lunch yesterday to a friend about Clemson's "short chubby PG with the dreads" saying that Lewis might actually be able to keep up with him and wouldn't be such a liability on defense...I was wrong.

I was in a pretty shitty mode last night following this loss. I do agree we have somewhat "over-achieved" this year, but some of that is simply due to the ACC being weaker than anyone imagined. No one thought ND would be dog shit, that Maryland would make exactly zero progress with their veteran lineup, that BC would basically find a way to get worse following the promise they showed at the end of last year, etc.

Oh well I just hate seeing us waste TJ Warren's time here because we refuse to consistently work hard on defense and have putrid PG play (Lewis's defense and Barber's offense plus neither can shoot at all).

i'm just glad we can provide bubble teams with wins, and reinforcing elite teams with their win streaks. i mean i can't really imagine supporting a team that won games it needed to win.

also, barber is a dogshit shooter and needs to work on his jump shot. he's the new cancer, and if gott is constantly giving him more minutes because he "threatened to transfer", then i say show him the door.

I hate to acknowledge this guy's posts but: Jan 11: Duke 59, Clemson 72
-Blossomgame had career highs of 14 points and 14 rebounds
-Duke scores 22 points in 2nd half
-13 point loss ~= 17 point loss....Fire K

If ESPN's box score is right, our big men had a combined 3 REBOUNDS

Anya had 2, Vandy had 1, Washington and Freeman had 0.

Holy shit, that's pitiful.

you guys know that coach k said he pretty much didnt coach at all after his brother died and had to refocus after their shitty play following their loss to clemson, right?

Gott = Coach K when he isn't paying attention to his team

May as well hire Pete Gaudet
