3 year extension for Nate Chandler

coaching staff must be pretty high on him

i don't know what he could have possibly done in offseason workouts to warrant a 3 year extension.

Somehow Chandler's lack of ability has been blown so far out of proportion. He isn't that bad at all.

If you expect to have a tackle that never gives up penetration or a sack then you better go back in time and draft Johnathon Ogden.

Perfection does not exist at that spot on the football field.

It's amazing how quickly Gettleman has turned this roster around from all those bad contracts and draft picks. The only real fly in the ointment was Gross retiring, which I'm sure they didn't expect, but based on his rapid weight loss I'd say he had his mind made up a while ago. I like the way this team is shaping up, but we have acknowledge that luck had a lot to do with 12-4 last year, so expecting a repeat of that isn't realistic. We could be a better team this year and still go 10-6 or worse and miss the playoffs.

The Rude Awakening guys were talking about the top 10 QBs if you were going to draft a team for this year only. Big argument was where Cam falls into this...

one had Big Ben and Eli in over Cam and thought it wasnt even debatable...

now that is just laughable

How many picks did Eli throw last year?

Wow, that is a special kind of stupid. "Ben" hasn't been healthy in 3 years and Eli's level of play is so schizophrenic you'd never choose to rely on him for 16 games. There's no good argument that Cam SHOULDN'T be ahead of both of them.

I'd take Brady, Manning, and A-Rod over Cam statistically this season, but that would be about it.

it's not uncommon for linemen to rapidly lose weight right after they retire. they have to eat an insane amount of food to keep their playing weight.

if they have a plan, and a support system (like their family), it isn't that hard to drop a ton of weight. i mean these guys were eating 6-7,000 calories a day. cutting that in half or a third will equal massive weight loss.

I thought Tavarres King was pretty decent watching him play for UGA -- though his speed is basically his only weapon, he was like TJ Graham with better hands. Besides going deep, he might be able to replace what we did with Ginn a lot of times with the quick out to the sideline and see what he can create out of it.

I think Avant and Cotchery will be solid 2nd and 3rd options. What we need is one of Benjamin, Underwood, McNutt, or King to develop into that guy who gives us a mismatch on the outside. Also Brandon Williams is a name a lot of Panthers observers have been mentioning as a potential break out star at tight end.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11156302/nfl-anonymous-league-insiders-rank-32-starting-quarterbacks-tiers

Quote :
"Tier 3 (9)

16. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers (2.58 average rating)

Players with the ability to escape the pocket and run have less incentive to become polished pocket passers, according to some. That is one reason a number of defensive backs I've spoken with think Newton and others with similar skill sets might never move into the top tier.

One GM called Newton "phenomenal" and someone he'd pay to see play. He thought Newton needed continuity on the coaching staff and in the huddle. "He is a little bit like Ben [Roethlisberger] in that he is so physical," one head coach said. "But he is so inconsistent. I would say he is a three. Some days, he's a one. Some days, he's a five."

Newton appears to have no limitations. "I would say Cam Newton has rare stuff," a defensive coordinator said. "You don't worry about him getting hit like you worry about other quarterbacks. He would be at the top of the list for me as a three because he is not a rare thrower, but he has rare stuff. I could see him elevating to a two, and it might just be winning past the regular season.""

notable names ahead of $Cam include Colin Kaepernick, Nick Foles, Matt Stafford, Tony Romo, and Matty Ice

I agree with that, cam to me right now is a good sometimes great, sometimes bad quarterback, what bothers me a bit is the shit receivers/offense we are giving him in kind of the make or break moment of his career esp going in to contract extension time

i wouldn't say they are shit.

cotchery and avant would make any roster in the league. benjamin has a real chance to be very, very special. the other guys are battling for the backup/4th/5th receiver spots.

if cam can learn to not overthrow every other pass, then maybe you can start blaming the WR corp.

The only one that bothers me is Stafford. Dude is a bum. Blah blah blah I know team game and all but he missed the playoffs against a bunch of division opponents who were playing backup QBs. Not all the losses were on him, but enough of them were to say he cost them a playoff berth. No QB that ultimately hurts their team should be considered anywhere near the top half.

has Kugbila even practiced as a Panther? i seem to recall last year at camp all he did was ride a bike because he a was a broke dick then too. bum.

i've got at least $100 on Stewart's "minor" injury drags on throughout the entire preseason at a minimum, with a comment every week that he's "almost there" and is day to day.
