stop

Kawhi is on a totally different level than Klay and it isn't really that close

when is that last time you were actually right about something in Sports Talk?

eh I actually like Kawhi a lot, I'm just not as in love with him as face.

Do you have anything of value to contribute to this thread other than "That was a different Cleveland team last year in the Finals"?

You do realize they lost both games to GS. Right? Or do those losses not count in your eyes?

Kawhi is probably the best player in the league. He's having his best season yet. I can't think of anyone I'd take over him though you'd have to consider curry for sure.

And there is no argument that klay is in the top 25... likely not top 50... but I'd have to think about that a bit.

I mean I don't think you can even argue Anthony Davis or lebron with kawhi this year... regular season anyway, we'll see if lebron is just tanking it this year or if he's really fallen off this much...

Klay is inconsistant, but he's a hell of a shooter and he can play some pretty good defense. Kawhi is a better two way player, sure. Can't argue with that.

Curry and klay were filthy last night.

Also Don't forget draymond shoots like shit in the playoffs every year. I know he's worked a ton on his shooting and playmaking but he could always choke again come playoff time.

Cleveland wore out due to lack of depth and started leaving iggy open. I don't think they'll give up nearly as many wide open threes this year. I mean dellevedova was in the hospital for exhaustion for God's sake. Lebron was having to initiate every possession.

Look at frye impact already. 15 points on 9 shots and 6 reb in 18 minutes. He's not a matador defensively and it allows Thompson to roam a bit more. With lebron patrolling weak side and switching on ball screens cleveland is built to defend the warriors as well as anyone in the leahue.

It will be a good series. I'm a huge fan of the warrirors, and I think they'll break the record Ive thought that since they were like 13-0. I actually less confident now in them than I once was since they seem to be struggling as of late.

But this championship is absolutely not as guaranteed as people want to think. 1 injury to green, curry, klay, +iggy and it's all up for grabs. I'd still mark them as the favorites without bogut, ezeli, or Barnes (1 of them not all of them).

I think Lebron is coasting quite a bit during this regular season. I think the fact that he's lost a couple of finals largely because he ran out of gas carrying teams to get there has put him into that mode. He's still playing too many minutes, but you can see that he's not exerting himself on the defensive end as much and isn't attacking the rim as much as in year's past. He doesn't have to carry so much of the offensive workload with more options out there.

Kawhi is an absolute monster, but I still think Curry is the league's best player right now. Curry 1, Kawhi 2, Westbrook 3, Lebron 4, and Durant 5.

It's really hard to argue against Curry being the best player this season. Dude scored 51 points tonight on little rest and after a hard fought game last night. If the metric of MVP is measured in who's the best at putting the basketball through the net, I really don't see how you could argue anyone else over him right now. He's unreal.

I think they DO have a chance to sweep in the finals, if they maintain the status like right now. And it looks cooler than a 73 wins in the regular season. The 96' bulls lost 2 games to the supersonic. So performance in the regular season can't guarantee a secured champ in the playoffs. I think GSW should prepare more for the playoffs now. The goal should be adjusted to building a dynasty.

"Who said anything about a sweep?"

Lol, the person I was responding to did... it's not always about you

Nba writers are conditioned to vote for scorers so yes curry will win the award for sure, but there have been numerous absurd mvp over the years...

Curry and kawhi are a tough call for sure on who the legitimate mvp is. I don't have a problem with people voting for curry. I think kawhi is slightly more valuable but it's close for sure. Curry is certainly more fun to watch due to his electrifying style. He's practically turned green into a household name since both defenders have to stay glued to curry on pick and rolls

not necessarily. in scoring, Steve Nash didn't finish in the top-20 either of his MVP seasons and Dirk was outside the top-10 his MVP season

Yea I mean Nash was a joke for mvp it was just a feel good, vote for the white guy candidate.

Nash Is the 2nd best shooter in nba history but the gap between him and curry is still quite noticeable.

Curry is also secretly a better playmaker due to the fact teams are forced to make him give the ball up which leaves other guys open.

Nowitzki never really should have been an mvp candidate. Nba writers just give it to the highest scorer on the best team usually. It's easier than trying to analyze what actually happens on a basketball court.

Don't forget they actually gave the mvp award to Derrick rose one year out of absolutely nowhere just because the bulls were stacked. I think we all remember rose shitting all over himself in the playoffs that year. Rose was never a legitimate mvp candidate let alone award winner. It was just another feel good candidate because he was fun to watch and people didn't want to give it to LeBron after the whole talents to south beach fiasco

Curry and kahwi are in a league of their own this year. I think LeBron can get back to that level in the postseason but it's clear he's half assing defensively. It's unclear as to why he's completely lost his touch from the perimeter. His shot abandoned him last postseason and hasn't returned. And he's not finishing around the hoop like he used to. Its obvious he's far past his prime, but there is enough talent around him to hang with the warriors if healthy. Golden state doesn't have anyone who can guard LeBron.

I don't think Cleveland could hang with the spurs though. Kawhi would eat him alive again and force Cleveland to beat them a different way. I just don't see that happening

Good grief now Cedric ceballos is saying curry would struggle guarding Kevin johnson.

Old guys need to just stop...

There is no one in the history of the nba who can stop steph curry. As of right now he is as close to unguardable as it gets.

Nba talent is at an all time high. Only a handful of nba players in the league in 1993 could even make a roster today let alone start.

Michael Jordan would be a borderline Allstar now. Guy couldn't shoot and he was a ball stopper. Once the defense dropped back and overloaded his side he'd be containable. He played in the illegal defense Era. Imagine him trying to take it to the rack today... he didn't have the ball handling, passing,or size of a LeBron. He couldn't shoot like Carmelo or kobe. He'd be known as a defensive stopper that could score like a Jeff green or Maaaaybe Paul George. Midrange shots, isos, and post play he thrived on are no longer efficient offense.

I mean 15 years ago I could play with ex nc state players. I wasnt nearly on their level or anything but I could contribute in a pickup game. Go check out a college game today... a lot of our players from 2000 couldn't get a scholarship at UNCW now. Jeremy Hyatt couldn't even walk on. I wouldn't be able to get a shot off or even dribble without turning it over.

The game is being played at a completely different level. Guys like Trevor lacey don't even sniff a roster or tryout anymore....

If you're not an athletic freak or one of the best shooters in the world you can't help anyone anymore.

Joe johnson can shoot the 3 but he can't get to the line or finish inside the arc anymore. Does help dragic with spacing issues maybe they can play dragic, johnson, wade, mcroberts, with whiteside... he's got a lot of mileage but he Can pass and shoot.

pretty good analysis. especially with the spacing issues the heat have. nearly the worst in the league on 3 point attempts, however joe johnson is basically the answer. the key piece missing is that guy who can basically be a full time "3 and D" type of guy, and he'll be that solution.

he won't ever need to drive the lane with guys like dragic and wade taking up that role.

Outside of Curry, no one on the Warriors can hit a 3. They've had plenty of good looks. Also OKC destroying GSW on the boards.

the Thunder should file an official protest on the game. Warriors players came off the bench to celebrate and do chest bumps before the game was over. Should have been a delay of game or a bench technical. Thunder would have won

I wondered about that, too. But there woulda been just over half a second left--plenty of time for Curry to somehow get his hands on the ball and swish a shot from the parking lot.

Btw, joe johnson spurning the cavs for the heat isn't getting near enough attention.

Guessing hes got an issue with lebron or something because they really could have used him..

It's possible it was a money thing though since miami might have said they'd resign him where obviously cleveland is already spending a ton and might not bring him back.

I just don't get it otherwise. Its already march... maybe he didn't want a long postseason being paid peanuts when free agency is coming up and he's risking injury? Obviously could be for weather or nightlife but I doubt that for three months.

He was the perfect fit for cleveland with his size and shooting. They could have really used his size on defense and the size advantage he has on steph curry on offense. Plus he gives them yet another playmaker at a position where they currently have zero

Yup, surprising.

I mean, I've been in Cleveland in February, it's fucking horrific. It's always horrible there, but late winter in cleveland is a special kind of hell, so I understand why South Beach would be alluring, but... if he goes to Cleveland on a one year rental he's got a legit shot at a ring. If he's hoping for a nice contract in Miami he might get it, but he's never going to see the finals playing there.
