Schiano (even outside the Penn State stuff) was a truly underwhelming retread hire. He was a game over .500 at Rutgers, famously flamed out of the NFL and if you watched any Ohio State this season, their defensive playcalling was as weak as ours at times. I'd have been pissed too if I was a TN fan.

The whole situation is a bigger shitshow from the ADs office than our basketball hiring process that ended with Gottfried.

To be fair to Schiano, before he got there that program was a total joke. Like worse than Duke pre-Cutcliffe. But he has some serious red flags based on his management style that came to light during his TB days especially. I mean he rigged the team captain vote for gods sake.

The Penn State stuff is the absolute definition of hearsay and honestly it's not why Tennessee fans are pissed. They'll claim it is the reason now, but I bet 99% of these outraged fans had no idea that Schiano ever coached at Penn State, much less that his name was brought up by McQueary.

I agree with jocristian. This was a terrible potential hire. I know the pipe dream for Vols fans is Jon Gruden (which doesn't appear likely). They either need a big name or a young coach from a lesser school (Mike Bobo at Colorado State). Les Miles, Pat Sumlin, hell even Lane Kiffin are better hires than Schiano. Have seen Cutcliffe's name brought up as well.

Gruden was a really good NFL coach. I mean he took two different teams to the super bowl. But it's clear he has no desire to get back into coaching. I think he very much enjoys being paid a shit ton of money to be on TV.

Also, the vast majority of NC State fans don't scream for Cowherd every coaching search. It really only happened once. Tennessee fans have been doing this since they ran off Fulmer.
