I mean, the paw prints worked at one point, seems like it wouldn't be hard to get that fixed.
Scheming how to even out some Pokemon(to nerf some and not others) is probably a bit more tedious. 7/29/2016 9:01:01 PM |

i've used 3 incenses and i've gotten mostly jack shit. definitely a waste. didn't feel like it attracted pokemans that were nearby. i feel like it might be only completely random, similar to lures.7/29/2016 10:16:46 PM |

It is random. It doesn't attract ones near by it spawns random Pokemon at your feet every 5 minutes while still or every one minute /200 meters. So at normal walking pace every 3ish minutes while walking 7/29/2016 11:53:33 PM |

How is this surprising? Many in the 20-30 bracket grew up with the original Pokemon games, cartoons, comics. Now they have some way to play while walking, out to lunch, and don't have to carry another device. On the other hand you have adults that have kids that are into this, and so they are getting into it to spend time with them.
I am a hybrid of this. I am mid 30s and didn't really get into Game Boy, so I had friends playing around me, but I missed it. My kids have been into Pokemon for several years now and many of my coworkers were as kids, so their combined interest has gotten me into it as well. I sometimes goes with a lunch group and then I take my kid to go out and do it as well. We hiked three miles last weekend. Now I am about to head out to the NC Botanical Gardens as it has a ton of stops so my son can stock up. Might get some more at the Bulls game this evening.7/30/2016 8:29:36 AM |

Patch came out will see if it fixes many things. First thing is it pops up and tells you not to play while driving haha. Looking at notes I assume they nerfed Vaporeon since it says they fixed certain battle move damage and calculations. They did away with footprints for now it appears all it tells you is what is nearby but not how far away. Hopefully the bug fixes actually help with the constant crashing.
Also after going downtown last night I came to the realization that if you don't live in an urban environment you are significantly behind it was insane compared to anywhere else I have tried to go. Caught more in an hour than I have caught in a week or two of normal daily activity.

Yea I went to the Botanical Gardens yesterday morning and then to a Bulls game and hung out for a bit at American Tobacco Campus. Shit was rolling down there and Pokemon were spawning so fast I was having a hard time keeping up. My oldest had a blast though, and I let my younger son catch for me some. It was a lot of fun.
Also Ninatic just shut down Pokevision. Of course the three step glitch is still fucking broke so good luck actually finding anything now! 7/31/2016 11:38:27 AM |

^^ Yup, that might make me quit playing. You can't hunt shit at this point, because the "nearby" doesn't show anything that's actually nearby. Almost everything I caught tonight was nowhere on the "nearby" list. It was nice to know that I could go somewhere and catch something other than Rattatas, Zubats, and Pidgeys. Frankly, Pokevision made me play a hell of a lot more, since it made the game actually playable.
I imagine Niantic will end up settling with Pokevision and just demand a cut of their ad revenue. That's all this was ever about anyway. The more people they have playing it, the more people will do the micropurchases, and Pokevision probably brings more people. The "cheating" aspect is stupid at this point, because, even if you can find a rare Pokemon with it, it's still the luck of the draw on whether or not you get one that you could actually fight with, which makes it a moot point. Niantic just wants a cut, and when they get it, Pokevision will be right back up, probably with a better account to access the spawn locations. 8/1/2016 12:34:43 AM |

Up to 250 or so pokecoins, any suggestions on what to purchase? If the incubator was infinite I'd definitely get that, but since it's only 3 uses, might be better to get a bag upgrade? Lucky eggs to continue leveling up as the XP requirements skyrocket? 8/3/2016 8:56:51 AM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
^Bag upgrade. That and the pokemon storage upgrade are the only thing that you can't get in the game otherwise. I've never come close to filling my pokemon storage but I have filled my bag up a few times. If you spin a pokestop and your bag is full, it just says your bag is full and you don't get anything but you still have to wait 5 mins for it to recharge.

I did the bag upgrade first to stock up on more balls and potions. Now I use for incubators but only use the 3x use ones for the high KM eggs (5 and 10). There isnt much benefit to ranking up after passing 20 because the quality of the pokemon remains at level 20 but they get harder to catch (at least thats what I believe I read). 8/3/2016 9:04:19 AM |

I'm a sucker for freemium so I've put in $20 or so already. I think incubators/eggs/incense/lures are probably the best bang for your buck in that order. I play mostly when I go for jogs/runs and incubate all my eggs at the same time so I can pop a lucky egg and hatch them all at once and evolve all the crappy pokemon. usually get at least a level or two out of it. the incense is also good because it goes where you go. there are lures everywhere so don't waste money on them unless you feel like being generous or are sitting at a bar with friends trying to play.
I'm not a big fan of the bag upgrade because if you just drop all the junk (do you really need 75 revives?) you'll have plenty of room for stuff you really need. 8/3/2016 10:28:35 AM |

From what I have read eggs cap out at level 20 and then wild captured pokemon cap out at level 30. You can power them up until level 40 and thats where the game currently caps out. I have noticed that I no longer get any bonus xp for the better throws not sure if they took that out of the game or if it stops once you hit level 20. 8/3/2016 10:35:02 AM |

^Supposedly curve balls are more likely to keep the pokemon contained, but I haven't really seen any difference. The one advantage curve balls have is that you at least KNOW it is going to curve, unlike how it sometimes flies off to the side by itself. 8/3/2016 11:51:15 AM |

If it has grass behind it, it means it is in the wild. Supposedly a future update will replace the grass with a pokestop if it is near one. If it is in the wild then it is still just up to blind luck/wandering around and hoping that you find it. 8/9/2016 9:23:31 AM |

There's an explanation of the new tracker. 8/9/2016 9:43:02 AM |
Doss2k All American 18474 Posts user info edit post |
From what I have read it updates every 10 seconds and now displays them in order from closest to furthest and the range you find them is smaller now so trial and error you should be able to find them by walking and seeing if it moves up or down the list I guess.
I know that isnt perfect but if its working correctly that will help a lot. If you live like downtown you probably dont care as much because they are everywhere you go but where I live they are few and far between so it will be nice to have a tracker that works and actually walk around and see if I am indeed barren completely of pokemon or if there are any areas in walking distance where I can pickup a few here and there.

At least when a 2k egg is useless, it's candy for grinding. When it's a 10k Jynx or Scither, I can't even take solace in having the candy to use.
^Yeah I've heard of the dreaded 10k Eevee, apparently people claim it's "rare" in some areas, Raleigh is certainly not one of those areas. I've evolved 7 so far and have 2 more primed to evolve once I drop my next lucky egg. 8/10/2016 11:10:20 AM |

Wonder at what level I should start ignoring pidgeys and rats unless they are green and easy to catch. Been trying to get one that is at least 95% and has ideal moveset at that point Ill definitely stop but I am level 21 now and I know its the best ones to level with but also they are starting to eat up pokeballs because they are more difficult to catch as I level up. 8/11/2016 3:35:13 PM |

^I'm level 21. I don't bother with them anymore unless I'm bored and have a lot of pokeballs. Beyond level 20, the max CP of any pokemon you catch or hatch has topped out so there isn't really a need to level up as quickly unless you wanna get the free lucky eggs and lure modules and stuff. 8/11/2016 3:48:17 PM |

My understanding is that most Pokemon are not created equal. Certain Pokemon are just better, and I do not mean that they just have better move sets.
The Pokemon CP is based upon the Pokemon stats. That is why Pokemon can be the same level (i.e. the same location on the dial) but have different CP. This is similarly why the same CP Eevee will evolve into different CPs for Joltean, Vaporean, and Flareon; they have different stats.
As I recall, all Pokemon have the same max level but different max CP based on the stats they generate at that level. Comparing two extreme cases, the highest Pokemon level Raticate you can possibly get is 1444 CP (he gains 21 CP of stats per power up). In comparison, a Dragonite with the highest Pokemon level will have a CP of 3500 (he gains 50 CP of stats per power up). NOTE that you would have had to spend the exact same amount of stardust and candies to reach the highest level for each (albeit different candies).
Now Dragonite is significantly harder to power up due to the candies needed, so let's compare to a Vaporean instead since they are much more common. The max CP Vaporean is 2816. He gets 40 CP worth of stats per level.
Raticate is garbage. Even the 2nd starter forms (Ivysaur, Charmeleon, Wartortle) level better than it. Unless you are an absolute completionist, you shouldn't worry about it too much. This goes double for move-set as I anticipate more balance changes moving forward.

Yeah my goal has been to find ones with at least 90% perfect IV with ideal movesets before I start investing much dust into them. I am trying to keep 50k dust on hand now though just in case I come across one of the more rare ones that is much better so I can power it quickly. I had been holding out as long as I could but I had to start dropping some dust and candy into a few of the better ones I had just to be able to gym battle as people are getting better and better ones in there. I have been holding out for a better Vaporeon but all my Eevees have been crap so I have been slowly powering my around 80% one its at 1395 now which is the highest I have. I should hit level 22 sometime today at least after a mass pidgey evolve fest haha. 8/12/2016 10:59:11 AM |

^^ That's my goal now too. I would advise on taking the IV calculator ranges as a general rule of thumb. I had a 64-88 magikarp that i "just went with" and leveled up a few times to see it's true IV, which actually ended up being 91. So now I have a 91% gyarados. I'm skeptical now since this is the second time I've gotten a higher IV after powering up a few times trying to determine what it really is.
I still love my vaporeons, though I do wish I had hydropump instead of aqua tail. finding worth while pokemon >90% IV is tough. I don't see as many Eevees these days and I'm broke on stardust. 8/12/2016 1:34:41 PM |

^^^ I've found that the IV calculator has a very wide range when the CP level is low but the band gets narrower as the CP increases. Anything below 200 CP is probably a guess because of the wide range of possibilities.
^^ Yep, tracker is much better. I can actually find whats showing up nearby.

Tracking sort of works, but it is still not remotely passable IMO. You now just have a chance. Last night I tried to find a Golduck and failed to do so in the 15 minutes before it despawned. Just trying to narrow its position down based on Pidgey and Rattatas moving in the list is difficult, especially if you are unsure if more haven't respawned recently.
I am also worried that the long refresh scan (10s) is playing a factor. The rarer Pokemon have a shorter timer so you have to hurry . . . but you only scan every 10 seconds . . . and you have to base its relative location based on its position in the list of common Pokemon in your list . . . and you cannot differentiate one common Pokemon in the list from another.
Just let me choose a single Pokemon in the list and do footprints for it! 8/12/2016 4:35:05 PM |
