For better or worse, people seem to be happy satisfying all of those desires save one on Facebook. The one exception, anonymity, is problematic for two reasons: one, there are already more well-known and well-populated sites that cater to that, like reddit; two, I'm not sure TWW is well-served by trying to appeal primarily to people who want their identities to remain a secret.

"Current students" have been a bust for a long time now. Even if we had some fresh new angle to appeal to them, how would we advertise it to them? Traditional advertisement costs money which the site clearly lacks. Word-of-mouth requires a presence on campus, which we can't generate when we're all in our 30s or 40s.

Students from the TWW heyday already know about TWW. The ones who are interested in it are here.

I don't see older alumni riding to the rescue, given that the introduction of the (relatively) elderly has signaled the death of fun on other platforms. Remember how great facebook was after all our parents got accounts? Yeah, me neither. And I'm not sure what an NC State fan would see in this site, which is actually pretty light on the NC State content.

Your argument seems to be that the site can be saved if enough people want to save the site, which is true as far as it goes. I don't disagree. But I don't think there will always be enough people, either. Meanwhile the whole enterprise relies on the benevolence of one guy.

Reddit is trash because of the voting system. I mean you get the same effect here to some extent from people calling you a moron, but at least you don't have that visible record of numbers going down.

Yeah. I don't want to come across as favoring or even liking reddit - I find its whole layout to be just this side of incomprehensible - but it is a free and largely anonymous platform, like TWW. And if you're already used to Reddit from before college, I don't know that TWW has enough to draw you away when you get there.

This was a point made in one of the various "What happened to TWW?" threads which I looked up earlier.When I signed up as GrumpyGOP in 2003, facebook and reddit didn't exist. Facebook arrived in 2004, so I learned it at about the same time. They coexisted in my internet world (and in fact my college desktop browser defaulted to opening TWW, followed by my NCSU e-mail, followed by facebook). Contrast that with a person entering college today. They grew up on facebook and, to a lesser extent, reddit and the like. By the time they reach the TWW target demo - in other words, by the time they get to college - they're already pretty well entrenched, and you have to ask yourself, why would they leave those to visit a half-broken, mobile-incompatible webpage full of 35 year olds who barely post?

The only hope for the internet is for people to retreat to small, individualized forums like this one. Too much manipulation on large sites, and upvote/like systems are bad for a lot of reasons. TWW will prob die either way but maybe we'll see a good alternative platform. Honestly, I'm only here bc that hasn't happened yet.

Theres plenty of people still in raleigh and the campus is public. posting a bunch of flyers around campus would be worth it just for the classifieds alone. college students would use this over craigslist any day. everything else is obsolete.

3 or 4 people just need to take 1 hour a month to post flyers. how hard could it be?

the point of it would be to get the information out there which only requires one person. I publicized a lot of student council events by myself when i was in school and it never took more than a few hours to coat the campus with fliers. hit court of carolina, swing by the brickyard, hit the bulletins by the library, swing by fox, expression tunnel, hit the boards by the dorms, and dan allen at the theatre, then hop on a bus and hit the hunt library.

cost: 5 dollars and 2 hours
