Very good points, Neuse.
^ My family member is overweight and it worries me a lot. At least they are willing to count calories. Gotta do it for the sake of health, if not anything else 8/10/2019 9:45:37 PM |

Anyone else having issues with Starbucks adding too much syrup to their drinks or McDonalds using too much creamer in their iced coffee?

quit drinking about a month ago so that I could save money and lose weight for my Europe trip at the end of this month, and also just to give my liver a break for a bit before my annual physical. I coupled it with vitamins (liver detox, magnesium, multivitamin, and vitamin d) and probiotics to try to get my gut bacteria back to normal. I didn't make any major changes to my diet other than observing a Mediterrenean-style diet and really getting back into disc golf the past two months.
the health benefits I've noticed have been insane. My blood pressure went from pre-hypertension to perfect, even athletic levels. I feel fuller with less food and I've lost about 10 lbs so far. after two weeks I started seeing my bf% drop. I lost so much water weight in the first week that I went from wearing a L/XL to now being able to comfortably wear mediums again. My waist probably went from about a 33/34 to 31/32. my face/skin look night and day different. sleep is way more consistent and fulfilling. my anxiety went from being almost unbearable at times to basically gone and my overall mood/attitude is much better. I have more energy during the day and am able to concentrate and respond much more quickly and creatively.
friends have started to notice not only my weight but also improvements in my mood and just appearing more relaxed. I didn't mean to make any kind of stand against alcohol and don't intend to fully quit (going to be in Alsace and Lorraine wine regions when I'm abroad), but I had no idea how much it was affecting me on a daily basis. quitting really wasn't hard at all and I don't even give it a second thought except for when friends bring it up if I'm out on weekends. don't mean to make tww a blog, but this experience put a lot into perspective for me so I thought I'd share.

^ Try weaning yourself off the syrups and creamers so you can just drink black coffee. Healthier, cheaper, and no worrying about what to add to your coffee all the time. Key is finding decent quality coffee you can drink black. 8/20/2019 9:50:42 PM |

thanks y'all, definitely feels great.
^^I also agree on getting off of creamer/sweeteners in coffee. Have you tried cold brew? It's way more chocolatey, stronger, and less acidic. Unfortunately, it's en vogue and a lot of places just call their iced coffee cold brew and it's not even close.
If you're local, Cup a Joe does a great one. Starbucks' isn't half bad, either, and they offer a sweetened version as well as a nitrous one that tastes/has the texture of a Guinness. They also sell Starbucks cold brew (and other brands) at the grocery store near the orange juice.
I also highly recommend seltzer water to feel full and to stave off any oral fixation associated with eating and drinking. It's also hydrating. The dental effects are negligible even though it does contain some carbonic acid due to the carbonation process, but the Ph is pretty close (~1 off) to still water and nowhere near sodas and the like. I like Food Lion's brand for the money, especially the orange vanilla. Polar and Waterloo are the best flavor. La Croix and Perrier is overpriced for what it is.

You could try adding some spices to your coffee if you get bored of just having it black. Like a mix of cinnamon and cayenne can really spice up an iced coffee. Can also use some unsweetened almond milk for creamer. 8/22/2019 1:22:02 PM |

Seems like if you're trying to lose weight, the word "syrup" should be removed from your vocab if possible.
Also 2nd seltzer water, I've been drinking that with dinner instead of beer

Btw ive been using some of these things. But wanted to say for chips, I've been eating these Beanitos things that have about the same calories as baked tostitos but fewer carbs and more fat/protein. So if you're worried about fat content, that may not work, but they help me feel full and get more protein out of a snack. They don't really taste like anything but I use them with salsa so the taste doesn't matter much, the texture is fine.

I tried those once, but I remember feeling like I got less chips for the calories. Taste was good, though.
Still maintaining between 160 and 165. In some ways, maintenance is harder than losing was for me. I still spend a lot of time feeling hungry. It's frustrating. 8/22/2019 10:27:52 PM |

Speaking of coffee - anyone have any long term experience with MCT oil in coffee or otherwise? Thinking about trying some, couldn't remember if this had already been discussed in the thread. I feel like it's just another supplement fad, but would welcome personal experience feedback. I normally just drink my coffee black - avg. 2 cups per day.

Do calories from wine equal regular calories? For example, if someone has taken in 2,008,000 in calories just from wine in past 5 years.
A pound is roughly 3500 calories, and person weighs 205 for the past 5 years. Taking away all wine, the person ingested roughly 594 less pounds worth of calories? 10/11/2019 9:50:38 PM |

Down 10-12lbs over the start of the year, did 50 pushups in a row, and still managed to run a respectable 24 minutes in our neighborhood 5K Turkey Trot last week. So all in all not a bad health and fitness year in 2019. Goal for 2020, figure out how to stop eating sugar.

finally finished my house and got the major time sink off my back. i gained back about 5 of the lbs I lost, which is pretty good considering I hosted thanksgiving and got stuck with all the leftovers and then spent a week in vegas. taking 2 weeks off in raleigh where I don't have much to do besides hit the gym so I think I'll be able to get off those 5lbs before the end of the year. 12/17/2019 5:09:23 PM |

I was pretty proud of myself for the 50 push-ups in a row, but yea I guess not getting early onset diabeetus is probably more important. I don't think there's any easy way to stop eating sugar other than to just stop doing it, but feel free to provide the rest of us some tips if you've been successful.12/25/2019 7:18:45 AM |
