^^Congrats! How's it ride?
R12R is back on the road. No leaks, no signs of any issues. Engine purrs nicely (as nicely as any boxer would ).
The guys at Sapps off Loop Rd. in Garner did a damn good job. BMW called me this morning saying there are only 28 coolers left. There is 1 cooler available in the US California warehouse. The other 27 oil coolers are in Germany...

Anybody out there have an old, beat up motorcycle they want to sell? I'd like to get one, but I can't justify spending the money on a nice one, as I would only be able to ride it on the weekends/after work (have to have a car for work). I don't really care about looks or power, just want to be able to cruise around and enjoy being on 2 wheels again. 4/9/2013 9:27:08 PM |

Nice! Looks really good.
It rides great, doesn't wobble or anything. I love that v4 sound too.
Auctmart abs? Is that a specific seller or are all the abs fairings listed from HK the same? 4/9/2013 9:27:31 PM |

^^ What's your budget? I think I might know of someone who's about to let theirs go...
I really need to try me a VFR one day to see what all they hype is about.

^^^Aside from Chinese stuff, you'll be lucky to find a running, titled bike for less than $1000, and at that point it will be from the 70's or 80's and probably need a fair amount of work. Don't forget that you'll need to budget for protective equipment as well, and that's not really cheap either. Up your total budget to $2k and you can probably do okay. 4/10/2013 10:49:04 AM |

There is something to be said about buying nice gear. I did the "cheapest gear" (aka Bilt) thing for a year. Im have to replace boots and other gear (under warranty) because of how cheap they were made, and the one size fits all thing was not only lacking in the fashion dept but equally, if not more, in the protective aspect (which is why you are buying gear to begin with yes?) Do yourself a favor get nice gear.

watched a guy take home his foot/ankle in the form of bone dust. after rehab/reassembly I watched the boots he bought and bought the same - external shell - internal boot
most importantly, buy GOOD gloves. your hands are what go to the ground first as you try to break your fall. gauntlets with knuckle protectors, that offer good feel and ventilation.
those are my current ones. nothing wrong with used quality gear and I'd always take it over new cheap shit. that's $750 in gear for just gloves and shoes. obviously you don't have to go that far, but gear is a significant expense to budget for and not an after thought.

i rode my dad's R1200RT a couple of days ago when I was up in NC...what a hell of a motorcycle. It's a vast improvement over his old R1150RT, and by far my favorite of the touring bikes he's had (the two R-bikes, a GL1800 Goldwing, and a Valkyrie with windscreen and hard cases). 4/11/2013 10:51:48 PM |

That R1150RT has those PIAA lights on the engine guards right? If so, I've seen him around a lot.
There's an older K-bike (Red White and Blue) that's in great shape that I see in the EB2 Parking Deck. I talked to him once, chill dude. 4/11/2013 11:32:50 PM |

When putting my fairings on, especially the cowling fairings...ive notice that its not just a bolt that connects it.
somehow, it appears, there is a bracket and then the fairing has a hole through it...theres no way to connect it straight through the fairing and attach at a 90 degree angle into the bracket hole.
any ideas? 5/21/2013 2:53:04 PM |
FenderFreek All American 2805 Posts user info edit post |
Is the bracket bent? In the wrong place? If they're aftermarket Chinese fairings, they're pretty well known for not lining up. I've also put a few back together where the tilt/orientation of the plastics had to be just right to get the bolt to thread straight, and it's not always immediately apparent that it's off. Hard to tell without photos. 5/22/2013 2:18:32 PM |

not at all..it just doesnt seem to match up with the fairing at all.
The bracket is at an angle like ___ with a hole going through it vertically and the fairing bolt goes straight through the fairing.
I looked at the aftermarket fairing bolt kit and the parts match up to the parts i have...im just super confused. I may get pics tomorrow if my explanation isnt adequate5/29/2013 10:52:22 PM |

4th. God. Damn. Flat. In. The. Past. Six. Teen. Months. Of. Fucking. Riding.
Seriously. This shit is getting really old.
As I had the bike leaned over making a left from Wake Forest onto Six Forks Road, I hear a nice PSHHHH. In about 10 seconds, the rear was totally flat. nice 1.25" gash across the treads. Didn't see anything in the intersetion...
I just bought this damn tire about 4k miles ago too. It's still got a lot of life left in it. 6/12/2013 7:54:41 PM |
