It very likely crashed. unfortunately unless you have a dev license, or hacked your phone, you have no way to access the crash logs that I'm aware of (maybe you can browse through finder?)

anyone can download the SDK and launch the xcode explorer to look at the console logs

just plug up your iphone while you have xcode up, it'll ask you if you'd like to use it for development

you only need a dev license/certs if you plan on pushing apps to your phone

2.2 is awesome!

Maps + Street View work beautifully now.
Ability to access and purchase music and pod casts via WiFi and now 3G!
Turn auto-correct on and off

might be a n00b question, but I'm a n00b when it comes to this sort of thing soo

I made my own ringtones without buying them by manipulating the file types in itunes... could downloading the new firmware make these not work? or would that method of making ringtones be prevented in an itunes update instead?

you buy a new one at full price.

IF you didn't lose it but you broke it with misuse then you get a new one at a discounted price. unless the apple genius was just being nice. But thats what they did for me when I had dropped it and shattered the screen.

Yeah, 2.2 is out for the touch. It came out at the same time or very soon after the iPhone version.

I just got my iPhone today and have been really digging the How Stuff Works podcast. I'd highly recommend the one about the CIA and LSD, for starters.

if an iPod Touch: http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=ipod+touch+%22street+view%22

Anybody subscribe to MobileMe?

I have used the trial for the last 60 days, but I just can't see paying for it. I like the instant sync of contacts and calendars, but I wish I could improve the email function of it more.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

KillExchangeLock doesn't work in 2.2

Quote :
" Passcode Lock

CVE-ID: CVE-2008-4229

Available for: iPhone OS 1.0 through 2.1, iPhone OS for iPod touch 1.1 through 2.1

Impact: Restoring a device from backup may not re-enable the Passcode Lock

Description: The Passcode Lock feature is designed to prevent applications from being launched unless the correct passcode is entered. A race condition in the handling of device settings may cause the Passcode Lock to be removed when the device is restored from backup. This may allow a person with physical access to the device to launch applications without the passcode. This update addresses the issue by improving the system's ability to recognize missing preferences. This issue does not affect systems prior to iPhone OS 2.0 or iPhone OS for iPod touch 2.0. Credit to Nolen Scaife for reporting this issue."

i have a feeling this has something to do with it

You have it icon sorting mode. Though I can't see that keeping you from syncing.

http://iphonefreakz.com/2008/10/27/cydia-sbsettings/

one of the most useful apps and one of the best reasons to jailbreak your phone, i've literally used it 4-5 times every day since i've installed it. it's especially nice to see the IP your phone pulled from DHCP without navigating all the way through the settings app.

this app is awesome.

Quote :
"SBSettings is a BossPrefs replacement available in Cydia via the BigBoss source. It is a simple app and it doesn’t add an icon to the springboard. All you have to do is swipe the status bar and a box will slide down the screen with info about your iPhone and also thing in which you want to toggle. More info and screenshots inside.

When you swipe the status bar and the box appears you can toggle things like

* 3G (if you have and iPhone 3G)
* Bluetooth
* EDGE
* Phone
* SSH
* Wi-Fi

You can also respring and power off. The box that appears also shows information like your iPhone’s name, WiFi IP Address, Data IP Address and HDD Free space.

You can edit the toggles available by tapping ‘More’ and then tapping ‘View Toggles’. Once in here all you have to do is move the switches to on or off. Then press the home button and it will respring and then the next time you swipe the status bar the new toggles will be there. If you have more than 4 turned on they will go onto a new row.

You can also hide icons using SBSettings. All you have to do is swipe the status bar, tap more, tap hide icons and then you just flick the switches. There are also Extras avaiable like in BossPrefs. Just swipe, tap more, tap Extras and then you have the option to:

* Fix User Dir Permissions
* Enable/Disable Numeric Battery
* Enable/Disable Apple App Killswitch

You can access the toggles while running other app just by swiping the status bar and it will appear not affecting the app you are running. To close SBSettings just tap the ‘x’ in the top left."

Wow, that's a really great BossPrefs replacement. I read where some people were having battery issues on 1st gen iPhones when using it, but as long as that doesn't happen to me, I'm sold.

thx evan.

So i'm going on my 3rd iPod Touch today (bought the first one right after the 2nd gen came out). Dust keeps getting under the screen and i'll have little white dots behind and the glass and it's really annoying. They just replace them without question so i might as well keep getting new ones. Has anyone else had this issue? Maybe i'm just too OSD but i can't stand dust i can't get off.

No error, it pops up, says its syncing, then after a couple seconds acts like its finished but nothing is ever transferred.
