starts on page 785 of emails.

Quote :
"• At both Duke and NCSU, head FB coach comes to all tutor/mentor trainings; not
just to thank them, but actually engages in brainstorming sessions. "

Quote :
"What is happening at NC State:
• BIG MESSAGE: All parties have bought into the program. This mandate comes
from the top down- Provost, Athletic Director, Director, counselors,
mentors/tutors. One message, one set of standards, one response. Everyone
has to be strong and stick to their guns; no negotiation. Final responsibility is
put back on the coach to manage his student- "you recruited him, you get him
to follow our rules. If not, you will deal with him on your own.""

Quote :
"Their system is not perfect and it is not smooth - the students still regularly
pitch a fit, but the staff never backs down or compromises. However, this
new system has greatly reduced the high-maintenance students to a few. "

Quote :
"With all academically at-risk students (based upon high school or college
performance), have them sign a contract similar to bounceback that clearly
states the radical consequences possible. NCSU does this in a meeting with the
student, coach, academic advisor, Robert & Blanchard. "

Quote :
"Approach other schools such as NCCU and look at their Dept of Ed or
Dept of Counseling- NCSU now has a track within academic advising for
athletics.

OMG! That is awesome. I have never seen it mentioned that that was included in the report. Now when UNC-CH fans claim that it happens everywhere, we can just show that it doesn't, and the WR documents that!

We have part time class checkers monitoring attendance of every student athlete at NC State.

At Puke and State, you have coaches come in and thank the tutors.

While at UNC, Roy has never even spoken to Willingham

a little webrun today:

twitter embed not working, but this has some great responses: NCAA: Weber St math instructor assists with academic dishonesty. She completed coursework for 5 football players. WSU will lose 9 scholshps
https://twitter.com/BruceFeldmanCFB/status/535116255678574593

and mr. forde has brought this up every chance he gets.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/forde-yard-dash-081317318-ncaaf.html
Quote :
"North Carolina (4). The season started with four defensive players suspended for a game after a training-camp altercation with a reserve wide receiver. But even after those players returned, the Tar Heels haven’t stopped a soul. They’ve surrendered at least 27 points in every game, and 50 in three different games – including the humiliating 70-point bomb dropped on them by East Carolina. Thus for the 10th consecutive season, North Carolina will not play in the ACC championship game, in a season when many thought it was possible. And it seems like there was one other embarrassing development that slips The Dash’s mind – oh yeah, the small matter of the 18-year academic scandal that enveloped more than 1,000 North Carolina athletes, including a ton of football players. Nice autumn in Chapel Hill."

Just read that ^ on fb. If 5 players are worth 9 scholarships, unc should lose at least a few hundred. Shut down all athletics for a few years.

The NCAA apply punishments uniformly? lol

How many did they lose from their 9 major violations? Like five per year for three years or something? I doubt the punishment will be scaled to match UNC's level of cheating. Like you say, they'd have to shut things down for a few years, or have a team composed primarily of walk-ons... and they'd still probably end up winning the coastal division.

^^ SMU Coach:

Quote :
""My daughter took some of those classes," Brown said. "If you look around, there's not a school in the country that doesn't have classes like that. How many kids are taking online classes these days? That's not an excuse. I'm just saying there are classes like that that are legitimate.""

Can someone please tell me classes at State I can take that require me to do at worst 1-2 assignments (that I can have written for me) and at best, absolutely nothing.

If somebody's honestly comparing this to online classes, I'm guessing they've not followed this story at all. Or they're just ignorant.

And has been giving the talking points from Roy himself.

[x] Classes were easy, but not fake
[x] Classes are available at every school
[x] Roy did his best to steer kids in right direction
[ ] Classes weren't just for athletes
[ ] UNC corrected this problem (that wasn't really a problem) years ago
[x] Such a prestigious school shouldn't be tarnished by such a minor issue

He almost hit them all.

The one online class I took at state [CHASS course] required just as much, if not more, work than many of my engineering courses. It was no fucking joke. I didn't think I could keep up. So yeh... online class !=fake or easy class

^^^Dang. There's some pretty harsh quotes in there

Quote :
"Pat Kennedy said "Gary Williams will tell you this, most of the coaches in the ACC felt that Carolina was a fraud in that they walked around like they were Stanford or Vanderbilt or Northwestern, but they weren't, they were not even Duke. They took the most exceptions the last few years of Dean Smith's career they took the most exceptions of any school in the ACC. Meaning kids that would not normally get accepted into the university, that were accepted to the university to play sports. I remember one year at Carolina they had five exceptions starting on their men's basketball team. So they were taking guys with very low level qualifications and then they would keep them eligible. By putting them in these courses. So if a guy was close to not being eligible and his GPA was a 1.8 he would then take a couple of these courses and his GPA would be up to 2.4 and then everybody took a deep breath and they did it again""

Quote :
""And the thing about the coaches not knowing about it in football it's possible because the coaches at different positions would know about it, but it may not get to the head coach. But in basketball the head coach would know about it because he would have to approve dropping classes and getting into another class to stay eligible for graduation."

"Coaches and athletic directors, you go to NCAA meetings and there is a lot of squabbling and coaches and ADs start pointing fingers. When I first got to the ACC I had a problem with a few coaches and a few of the other guys said 'well do you really want to be the guy to turn Dean Smith in?' and you know as a young coach I said 'I guess not' and as young coach you don't want to turn in a Nick Saban.""

As far as the role a coach plays in a players' academics, I'd say he's pretty credible.
