Good read on our cap situation:
Quote : | "Carolina Panthers
2016 cap space: $24.8 million Unrestricted free agents: CB Josh Norman, CB Charles Tillman, S Roman Harper, FB Mike Tolbert
Could it be?
Is it finally the year Dave Gettleman can loosen the purse strings? For the first time since Gettleman took over in 2013, he finally has a meaningful amount of cap space, albeit not as much as that number might suggest. He'll surely earmark a good chunk of that space to lock up Norman, who emerged as one of football's best cornerbacks this season and should expect a deal in the $14 million-per-year range. Norman is one of three starters in the secondary to hit free agency this year, and while the other parts are far easier to replace, the Panthers will probably target a cheap veteran or two. Re-signing Josh Norman will cut down on available cap space, but the Panthers are in better shape than previous years. Bob Donnan/USA TODAY Sports
The good news is they can clear out another $8.5 million by releasing Jared Allen or allowing him to retire; after acquiring him from the Bears, Carolina can release Allen without owing any dead money on their cap. The only other theoretical dead cap figure would be defensive end Charles Johnson, whose release could clear out $11 million if the Panthers wanted to move on. Given their need for pass-rushers, though, such a move seems unlikely at best." |

In case you haven't seen it, Brenson Buckner nailed a post on facebook talking about Cam.
Quote : | "MY TAKE ON IT: I WASN'T GOING TO WRITE THIS, BUT IF YOU KNOW ME, I'VE GOT TOO....THIS FOOTBALL SEASON HAS GIVEN BIRTH TO THE NEW MILLENNIUM SPORTS STAR: CAM NEWTON...HE IS NOT YOUR COOKIE CUTTER SUPERSTAR....HE WAS NOT CALLED TO FIT THE MOLD, HE WAS CALLED TO BREAK IT....HE WAS CALLED TO LEAD A NEW GENERATION OF YOUNG ATHLETES, WHO DRESS, TALK, WALK, LISTEN AND OF COURSE DANCE DIFFERENTLY THAN THE GENERATION BEFORE THEM....HE HAS BECOME THE FACE OF A SPORT THAT LIKES TO KEEP EVERYTHING IN A BOX.....WELL THE BOX ISN'T SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO CONTAIN HIS SHINE....SEEMS TO ME THAT PEOPLE ARE GETTING UPSET BECAUSE HE DOESN'T CARRY HIMSELF LIKE 'THEY THINK A STAR SHOULD.' I SEE A YOUNG MAN, WHO GETS PLEASURE FROM PUTTING SMILES ON THE FACES OF THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO SPEND THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY TO WATCH HIM AND HIS TEAM PERFORM....SOME WOULD CALL IT SHOWBOATING...I'VE HEARD HE ACTS LIKE A THUG....ALL NONSENSE!.. HE IS SOMETHING NEW....SOMETHING NEVER SEEN BEFORE...HE IS THE CHANGING OF THE GUARD...HE HAS INFUSED THE URBAN, HIP HOP CULTURE INTO THE NFL....I PLAYED FOR CAROLINA FROM 2001-2005, NEVER IN MY WILDEST DREAMS COULD I IMAGINE SEEING PANTHERS FAN DAB! BOUNCING TO JEEZY! SINGING 2CHAINS!...CAM HAS CREATED A TRUE DYNAMIC FAN BASE, THAT LIVE, BREATHE AND EAT PANTHERS FOOTBALL....IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING...AS AN OPPOSING COACH YOU GAMEPLAN AND SCHEME TO KEEP HIM AND HIS TEAMMATES OUT OF THE ENDZONE....BUT SOMETHING INSIDE OF YOU SOFTENS WHEN YOU SEE THE REACTIONS ON EVERY CHILDS FACE THAT RECIEVED A BALL....YOU WATCH THE WAY HE HAS EMERGED HIMSELF INTO THE COMMUNITIES OF THE CAROLINAS. HE'S THE PEOPLE'S HERO. THE ONE THAT THEY CAN TOUCH, NEVER TO BUSY TO SMILE FOR A PICTURE OR TO BUSY TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS....HE IS EXACTLY WHAT SPORTS FANS HAVE BEEN LONGING FOR! SO WHY THE HATE?...WHY???? WE SHOULD CELEBRATE GREATNESS! WE ARE WITNESSING THE EVOLUTION OF THE MOST GLORIFIED POSITION IN ALL OF SPORTS!!! I HAVE TO TRY TO CONTAIN HIM, BUT I'M NOT BLIND TO THE FACT THAT CAM IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME ATHLETE!...ALONG WITH BEING A GREAT QB, HE HAS ADDED A ENTERTAINMENT FACTOR TO THE POSITION...HE'S NOT PEYTON, BRADY, RIVERS OR BREES...HE WAS CALLED TO FOLLOW IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS...HE WAS CALLED TO CREATE HIS OWN LANE, THAT WILL OPEN THE EYES TO A NEW BREED OF QBS....I HAVE A SON WHO LOVES FOOTBALL...HE ALWAYS TELL ME, "DAD I WANT TO HAVE THE SAME WFFECT ON FANS LIKE CAM!" MY ANSWER TO HIM IS: " BE WHO YOU ARE...SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR THE GAME EVERY PLAY....NEVER LET ANYONE DESTROY YOUR JOY...PLAY TO MAKE YOUR TEAMMATES BETTER...SEND THE FANS HOME WITH SOMETHING MORE THAN A PROGRAM...CREATE MEMORIES! EVEN WHILE BEING INSULTED BY A LOCAL MEDIA MEMBER AFTER YOU WERE DRAFTED....YOU SAW A CITY, A FAN BASE, LONGING FOR A HERO THAT WOULD REPRESENT THEM TO THE FULLEST....YOU BECAME THAT GUY!!!! WITH THAT SAID- SALUTE TO YOU FOR BEING WHO YOU WERE CALLED TO BE. Nope. The stadium is to the left of the picture. Anybody else go to the "pep rally?" I don't think they understand what a pep rally is, because it was weak as hell. Having the mayor of Charlotte try to lead people in the corniest of chants in her strident voice didn't seem to do much for the crowd. She got up and started talking and basically everyone started leaving. Hearing Pat McCrory get booed was almost worth it. Riverboat Ron tried to save the rally, but not even he could turn it around after the inane chant of "Charlotte, Charlotte, what's our goal? We wanna win the Super Bowl." 1/30/2016 6:43:43 PM |

It's an interesting match up for sure.
Their strength is edge rush and we do a good job of slowing the edge with our read option. And we max protect or chip a lot to help our tackles. The concern is them getting a push up the middle.
For all the hype about Cams running he actually moves less in the pocket this year than about every qb in the league. That's his strength is hanging in there and getting the ball downfield.
The Broncos aren't gonna blitz balls out like last week but their secondary Isources better than our receivers so we need to establish olsen for sure. That's our biggest edge since trevathan doesn't match up well there.
I'd like to see a lot of designed runs for cam. Give them more to think about and maybe loosen up their safeties In coverage.
Fwiw broncos aren't that a good red zone defense (neither are we) or that good in short yardage situations. That's where we have a big edge with our power running game.
Peyton is obviously gonna throw short and throw at McClain all game. I expect them to try to run on us since they can't throw to rb and our lime should get great pressure up the middle.
Hope allen, davis, and our secondary stay healthy because depth is a weakness at de and secondary.
Big oppoortunity for Ginn since we should be able to force several punts. Seems like most super bowls as of late have some big special teams plays.
I think we force 2 picks and cam plays relatively well but this is a historically great defense so who knows.
Arguably the worst offense in super bowl history though. I just don't see them succeeding unless they have some trickery up their sleeve or our offense can't stay on the field and we lose a war of attrition to injuries and fatigue

Statistically they're more dominant than the 2000 ravens defense, but don't let facts get in the way of your stupid opinions.
The gap differential between their #1 defense and our #2 defense is larger than the gap between us and #12 rams defense.
They are standard deviations above everyone else. This is why I don't use this site anymore. Not enough intelligent conversation about sports.
Kalil is a big concern tonight. He's overmatched in pass protection against denvers DTs. And obviously we can't afford to give him much help while focusing on the edge. It will be interesting to see if we leave ware unblocked a lot and try to confuse him. I'm worried he's too fast for that but he's so hard to block anoway it might be the best strategy honestly

#4 scoring defense in the NFL
"historically great"
I think face tried to argue that the 10-6 2012 Bears also had one of the best defenses in NFL history
The 2013 Seahawks are better than this Denver defense. Hell, you could argue the 2015 Seahawks are better than Denver's defense this year.

This may sound bad but I'm not one of fans that say "we stil had an great year. I'm proud" I'm upset about it. The last time we were in the Super Bowl was over ten years ago. Seeing a Superbowl win in my lifetime I thought would never happen. Just going to the bowl game every year is hard. I thought this team caught lighting in a bottle After 7-0 and the "ball" bouncing our way I knew this ride would be special. I guess we can get back next year.
