I believe I have solved my idling woes, and in doing so, car picked up low end torque, throttle response, and probably some mpgs.

I love it when things work.

lubed control cables on BMW motorcycle.

OK, I can't argue with BMW Motorrad's results; their shit works. Aside from that total lunacy I described with the oil filter, it tends to be very serviceable, and they've enjoyed a reputation for probably the last 50 years of either setting the standard or being high on the list when it comes to longevity. There's a reason that most of the long-distance record setters and 3rd-world cross-continent voyagers have long embraced the brand.

...but damned if they didn't do some weird shit, at least back in the day. You think the think was Swedish or something instead of West German. The throttle twist grip, for example, has this internal Rube Goldberg mechanism where the twist grip is around a metal shaft that has splines that engage a bell crank (and which must be indexed together for proper actuation), which is attached to a little chain drive, which is connected to a conventional throttle cable.

I would so go take a picture of it, but I don't want to have to take it apart and put it back together again (it's not that bad, but it's just enough so that I'm not going to fuck with it again just for a picture).

It's pretty much like this, except a little more worn/dirty and a lot more packed in grease:

Sorry fellas! I didn't talk want to brag about a project that was not moving much. I was going to put it into a simple street setup, but my home purchase went awry and with no garage or storage I was forced to sell it. Keeping two cars when you live in the city with parking meters is difficult. Car needed full interior and many other random parts, but engine/tranny were solid. Previous owner put in a fuel cell as he was going to drag the car. It would have been a monster …light dart body and mopar 440 big block.

Here she is:

Yeah that's why I've backed off posting on my car... God knows I've spent a fortune on it now... And it's still not painted. Interior is done but not in... Suspension work is almost done. Engine and trans are done but not in the car... I still have to sort out the whole fuel system and uhhg I can't wait to have it drive able again... I miss it.

^Yep, whatever you think it will take, just triple the schedule timeline and budget. Why does it feel like I am talking about work?

Of course as soon as I sold it, I saw the most flawless triple black 2-door Dart at San Francisco Cars&Coffee.

New head unit in the Crown Vic, to replace the shittastic old factory unit. I now have 1990's technology (CD player) and 2000's technology (USB, bluetooth). No more tape adapter to play music from my phone. Have some new speakers for the doors as well, need to throw those in (and replace the passenger door window motor while I have the panel off).

1300 damn dollars for a fuel pump? Shit. I know BMW parts are expensive and all that, but really?? How hard is it to drop the tank and replace the pump?

I feel your pain...try it in a very attention grabbing 24 Hours of LeMons car that is only marginally street legal Luckily I was out in the country and the locals love push starting cars heh. Our issue was a bad starter though...we got dinged at the last race for a shiny new remanufactured starter, so we swapped out to the old one...this was a reminder why we got the new one. So I swapped it back to the new one as soon as I got home!

Also replaced the front calipers with new remanufactured calipers from a 2000 Contour SVT, which are much easier to find brake pads for.

I'm also in the process of swapping parts off my '97 M3 track car (with the frame issues) onto a new to me '98 M3. Got the front suspension done, including sway bar and chassis x-brace, but still have a ton of stuff to swap over.

The fuel door actuator (made in china junk that locks the fuel door when you lock the car) on my car went bad last month, imagine how bad it is to be at a gas pump and your fuel door won't open. I had to sit there for like 10 mins just looking at it, and eventually it opened. Needless to say I no longer have a fuel door actuator on my car.

Actually VERY hard when you are 500 miles away from home, happens on Sunday night and you have work pending over your head the next day. AAA tows within 100 miles, to tow another 400 miles would cost me close to $1k.

Part was $552 (fuel pump+fuel filter), labor the rest of it ($147/hour in LA).

[Edited on October 27, 2014 at 1:43 PM. Reason : no need to drop the tank. fuel pump is below the rear passenger seat]

I can assure you, you spent half what I've spent modding my car to fix a fucking fuel pump. Fool

btw I'm not 24 either dumbass.

$147 a hour, you either like overpaying for simple shit or are fucking retard, I'll say you are retarded, and lack the ability to turn a wrench. Like every other foreign car owner, fucking smucks.

domestic ooooh soo bad, except I can literally fix anything that breaks on my car, without getting anally assaulted by a dealership.

Can you even read english? Where did I make fun of him for not doing it himself. He justified the cost of the repair by saying it was in the middle of nowhere, having to work etc. I asked why he didn't just rent a truck and tow it and do it himself (assuming he knows odds are he overpayed). So where was I making fun of him? You are dumbass and after this statement I'm not bothering with another response.

blackjesus,

When you grow up you will realize that your time becomes something of value more so than when you were young and poor.

If I knew you would comprehend I would actually give you a cost break down to show you why renting a truck (one way btw) towing it 500 miles back to my place, letting it sit on the street while waiting for $359 fuel pump to arrive, while renting another vehicle to get me to/from work, spending my time repairing it (while taking into account my hourly rate) would be FAR worse for me financially.

Try not to assume too much about people. Over the last 14 years I've been here we’ve seen plenty of clowns like you come and go.

not my truck, but you get the 'warbling' sound the commonrails make (multiple injection events)

now...some trivia:
24 Valve "VP" pumped cummins (rotary pump, electronic control - imho the 'loudest' cummins engine noise)

(differing power levels aside, there are various nuances to the different sounds of the Cummins)
