Well, I guess you could say performance? I mean insulin resistance in a bad way though - I was borderline diabetic and I don't want to rely on meds to keep my blood sugar in check (hypoglycemia). I am happy to report I am off the metformin now
I have some update pics now but they're not that special.. and I have to wait til I get to an area w/ wifi 7/6/2011 6:48:56 PM |

How do y'all fight off cravings? I find that when I do have a craving it's for something sweet. 99% of the time I can just ignore it and it goes away. Does anyone have any tricks? I also try to drink a lot of water instead or distract myself with something else. Most of the time what I crave i don't even have in the house so having just a "bit" of it isn't much of an option. 7/6/2011 7:11:00 PM |

I honestly haven't had much change as far as size (at least I don't think I have)... but one thing I have noticed is my external obliques are more defined!!! SAY WHAAAAT
If I flex it looks pretty awesome so I'm excited about that.
My new goal (besides maintaining proper blood sugar levels) is to just trim my waist. I know you can't spot train, but that's the first place I lose weight so here it goessssss - I need to get back into workout mode for that wedding dress, ya heard? 7/6/2011 8:03:38 PM |

Tricks for fighting hunger cravings:
1. Cold water 2. Beef jerky, protein shakes or any other high protein, low everything else snack. 3. Celery 4. High intensity exercise burst; busting out 20 squats or doing 10 burpees or something may help. 5. Caffeine, ephedra, caspacin, green tea, adderall, or any other stimulant should help. I recommend True Protein's Burn pills (only take 1/4 of the recommend dosage!) 6. Stay busy, boredom often leads to cravings 7. High protein, high fiber, moderate fat diet 8. Small amounts of fruit 7/6/2011 9:29:26 PM |

I am seriously upset by your suggestion. I just want to say that NO ONE SHOULD EVER ABUSE ADDERALL IN THAT WAY.
I mean, Jesus Christ dude... you are recommending people take a class I prescribed medication that is NOT intended for weight loss just to curb their appetite. How is that healthy?!

You do realize some doctors will prescribe it for weightloss, right?
Doctors frequently rx meds for their off label uses.
And it's not abuse if you are taking it properly. 7/6/2011 10:07:29 PM |

I've been reading back and all of the bodybuilding/super intense stuff has got to go. I do 5-12 hours of jiu-jitsu per week and maybe some strength & conditioning.
The conclusion that I've found is that you need to find some sort of exercise program that you find fun and stick to it. The more fun it is and the less it feels like work, the better you feel and look! 7/6/2011 10:08:01 PM |

Also, this isn't the be healthy thread. This is the beach body thread. The question was how to stave off cravings. Adderall's, and other amphetamines, do a wonderful job of appetite suppression.
You are right though, it definitely should not be abused or taken liberally. 7/6/2011 10:09:33 PM |

Doctors rarely prescribe adderall for weight loss, it is primarily phentermine.
And adderall is not something to mess around with. It is an extreme appetite suppressant- what I have an issue with is what you're recommending is NOT. HEALTHY.
This is coming from personal experience. I lost 10 lbs on that mess, and it was all from not eating when I should have been. Some days I had to force myself to eat and was miserable for having to do so.
I really hope you don't typically recommend taking such a medication.
HOLY SHIT. You are a nutjob.

Luna, please define losing weight the right way.
People get fat and destroy their bodies through unnatural eating and lifestyle patterns. To correct it, using some modern tools can be very helpful, this includes pills and supplements.
It is important to evaluate the pro's and con's of everything, including supplements, diet, activity, etc. 7/6/2011 10:12:45 PM |

losing weight the right way = eating healthy in moderation and exercise

YES there are people who are so beyond those means that they need surgery or serious help. but seriously, i don't see the people who are in need of surgery for weightloss in this thread. 7/6/2011 10:14:41 PM |

AMPHETAMINES = SPEED
Why would you EVER recommend that?!
Ya know what, fuck this thread and fuck your advice. I would rather lose weight the healthy way and encourage others without offering shady advice. And I damn sure would rather be the size I am than ripped or toned all because of fucking amphetamines. 7/6/2011 10:15:44 PM |

Nutjob? Give me a break.
I look at supplements, food, training, and lifestyle as tools. Different tools for different jobs. You weigh the pro's, con's and risks and make educated decisions.
To me, you seem like the nut job who completely dismisses ideas and options based on a limited experience or view.
I am not recommending abusing amphetamines. What I am saying is that there are chemical solutions to hunger problems. Practically everything in the human body is based on chemical signals, learning how to manipulate them can be very useful.
So back the fuck up and realize that I am not advocating the use of these drugs, but they are a viable alternative to stave off hunger problems. 7/6/2011 10:17:24 PM |

Like I said, there are tools for every job. Use what you want to after weighing the risks and benefits.
I personally don't use it for controlling my appetite, but it was a side benefit. I use it occasionally to get my study on and get shit done.
I pride myself on spreading facts. The fact is it works well for appetite suppression. Hunger control is one the hardest things to control when you start getting below 8-9% body fat.
I've also read the using nicotine patches/gum is also very effective. 7/6/2011 10:25:39 PM |

Y'all are ridiculous.
You do realize having a ripped six pack while being muscular is a very unnatural condition, right?
Getting down to that low body fat and maintaining it requires very meticulous dieting and effort. Your body goes crazy. Hunger gets borderline uncontrollable.
And yes, getting down to 8% is starving yourself. That is why you get so fucking hungry.
If you do it correctly, you mitigate health risks by getting in essential healthy fats, taking vitamin supplements, and eating a lot of meats, fruits and veges.
Do you have to use adderall? Hell no. Is it useful to supress appetite? Definitely. WTF is so hard to understand about that. You all are adults and should be able to make educated decisions on what substances you do or do not want to use. Stop getting all upset if someone recommends something that is outside of your reality tunnel or set of values.
You are more than welcome to disagree with it, but be fucking constructive about it. Not resorting ad homeniem and sounding ignorant about the realities of chemicals. 7/6/2011 10:34:00 PM |

I've found that if you stop eating after about a month, you don't really get hungry any more. That month can be really tough though. But, don't worry, because if you can't tough it out, then induced vomiting is always an option! If you don't have a lot of time to waste, then throw in some drugs to speed up fat burning. Oh and PLEASE DON'T FORGET YOUR VITAMINS! 7/6/2011 10:39:34 PM |

I also want to touch on your comment about recommending steroids. And for the record, I've never touched them or even seen them. That's a can of worms I don't want to open until I am around my late 40s.
Let's take a situation where there are 2 very different people with the same goal of getting a "beach body"
Person 1 has naturally high testosterone levels and has a ripped physique, gets great results in the gym and through dieting almost effortlessly due to having the right set of parents.
Person 2 has hypogonadism and can not produce nearly as much testosterone as person 1. These affects his ability to gain muscle or lose significant amounts of bodyfat.
Would it be wrong for person 2 to take steroids? 7/6/2011 10:40:42 PM |

well yeah, if he's eating healthy and living a healthy life style why does he need to add chemicals to change his physique? Why can't he be happy with this natural body?

If person 2 didn't care about the side effects of steroids and ALL they were concerned about was getting ripped - why not.
I feel like you're completely missing the point of this thread. I "won" the thread last year. Check my pictures. I am in no way ripped or 8% body fat. The whole point was to get your ass in shape. Post progress. Get encouragement advice and help from others.

This thread has turned in to a sounding board for nutritional and training advice. Some one asked how to control hunger cravings, I gave one controversial solution a among many.
I don't understand why a few of you are so up in arms about a controversial recommendation. Hell you can break a leg running or tear an ACL squatting. There are risks for everything.
##
You can get a doctor to prescribe almost anything, if you go to the right doctor. In this situation a doctor would probably recommend exogenous testosterone supplementation AKA Steroids.
Are you saying that if you get it from a Doctor, it magically becomes OK?
There seems to be a lot of ignorance about steroids ITT, I recommend watching the documentary Bigger, Faster, Stronger for a unbiased perspective on steroid usage in America. 7/6/2011 10:53:40 PM |
