eh

i mean, i had alot of outs as it turns out, so its about all i could ask for with ~ 13 BB on the button, and being severly short stacked.

I mean, i could have hovered till the next pay scale, but my value was more for getting more chips than getting whiddled away for another like $40.

Ok,

I know im the only one poasting int his thread,

but this hand has been biting me in the ass for the past 45 minutes while cleaning and folding laundry.

setup:

I was playing a 10/20 limit omaha 8/b and a 15/30 limit omaha 8/b cash games at the same time this went down, so you obviously know where my attention was being held. This was a $0.50/$1.00 pot limit omaha hi/lo 8/b table, playing with a fellow poster at a few other omaha forums i frequent. so basically what I am saying is that hes very, very solid.

relavent stack sizes.

me: $114. in the hijack
him: $135 in the SB.

a few limpers around to me with Ad 2d 6h Js, so I pot it. (raise to $6.50) (this may be questionable, but it's been shown how much I change gears in plo8.)
CO folds, button folds, SB calls, BB folds. all limpers fold.

pot size: $18

flop comes 8d 6d Kc

SB checks,

I pot it again. SB calls.

pot size: $54

Turn comes a Ts

SB pots it to me., a bet of $54.

Heres the problem. I have a $54 dollar bet infront of me, with $89 remaining (prior to any action ont his street) in my stack.

I have a superb drawing hand, and am getting 2:1 on the call.

What is your play? I want you to really think about this, before you scroll down. Think about what play you make given your stack sizes, what range you put the SB on, and what you should do. What you should do is totally dependant on the range you put the SB on, and how you feel about the pot as a whole. When you have come to a conclusion, scroll down. This really seems to be a problem with my pot limit omaha 8/b play. It is a concept that I beleive is vastly overlooked in cash game poker, but seems to be well understood in players that really concentrate on tournament poker. (esp. nlhe tournament players)

Ok nm, ill post my thoughts tommorow, the g/f just got here.

(in depth analysis, i promise. But i want to hear a few of your ideas first.)

Knowing the guy was pretty solid, maybe put in on trip kings or two diam with one being a king, aces or even a hand similar to yours.

I'm very "by the book" so with what you have, what you would put him on, I'd play like this (I'm quite conservative):

In the worst case scenario, he has trip kings, then you have 10 outs (6 diamonds and 4 queens) 4 diam are in play, you dont want Kd nor 10d, and the queen is accounted for. If you are only gettin 2:1, then I'd say fold.

If you put him on Aces or two pair, then you have 12 outs(two 6s), still not enough for me, so I'd fold.

Shit.. after I typed all this, I looked up there and saw that it was Hi/Lo.. something I still haven't got a complete grasp for.. This all might be completely irrelevant/dumb to all you great players, but thats how I would have handled a regular Omaha game. But you told me that you should always play for the whole pot, so the Hi part is covered above...

i would fold the last hand in question.....

i don't think that would've grown the pot any, seems to me like he would've checked it right behind you trying to fill his low, or whatever he was drawing at

I found that out the hardway. I thought I would play in a $5 one just for fun. If you can make it to the final table though it pays our really well since everyone has bought in like 10 times.

Anyone watching or seen the tourney on Fox Sports right now. They are having a badass single table tourney for $1mil. Its got Jesus, Hellmuth, Matusow, Ivey, Devil Fish, Juwanda, and Gus Hanson. Very good tourney.

Its shit like this that just wears you out after it happens over and over. Guy has two outs to beat me, and of course, he hits it.

"Heres the problem. I have a $54 dollar bet infront of me, with $89 remaining (prior to any action ont his street) in my stack.

I have a superb drawing hand, and am getting 2:1 on the call.

What is your play?"

He called from the SB with limpers yet to act, called your bet on the flop , then potted it on the turn. I'd probably look at it like this in trying to gage the guy's hand strength:

1) The Nuts - Not likely, since you bet the flop you'll probably fire again on the turn. If he had an unbeatable hand then betting makes no sense.

2) Strong hand - Makes more sense, this looks like a value/protecting hand type bet assuming this guy plays solid. The 10 doesn't make a low hand yet, and maybe this guy thinks he can drive you out now before you complete a low on the river.

3) Drawing hand - You know he doesn't have the nut flush, and if he had a straight draw he just hit it, so either way betting makes no sense. You showed strength, so it's unlikely he's bluffing. This bet commits you to fold or go all-in now or on the river, so odds are you're along for the ride.

The best Hi hand right now is J-9 for a straight, but I find it unlikely he called a pot-sized bet from the SB with a J-9 in his hand. I agree that a set is the likely holding for the Hi.

The low is a toss-up. If he's a decent player he should expect you to have A2 considering you potted it preflop with a decent list of limpers. The reason I hesitate to discount his low is that he called way out of position. A strong player however doesn't bet the pot with no established low hand and no Hi hand.

He's likely trying to protect his hand. There's a strong possibility you're quartered on the low and drawing to 10 outs on the river for the Hi. You're likely dumping the rest of your money in on the river out of pot odds and sheer curiosity, so I consider the bet to be $89 into a $145 pot. If this guy is solid, I think folding is perfectly reasonable. If however you think you're nut low draw is good, I just as easily might throw the chips in the middle and hope for the best.

I say it's a fold, but barely.

i don't really like that philosophy for omaha hi, or split especially

i mean it's ok every now and then, but not as a rule, make them pay to fill their draws
