In 2005 they were already getting pressured to reduce the number of independent study courses by someone senior to them, but no one knew that these classes were a problem?

how does that work?

It's funny how UNC alums act like little PR minions for them in the comments. They all do the same thing, poison the well, red herrings, etc.

Yeah, the UNC fanboys are a lot sparser these days in the N&O Comments. They still try though.

"I DONT SEE WHATS SO BAD ABOUT THAT EMAIL, A KID NEEDED HELP WITH CLASSES AND THEY WANTED TO GET IT TO HIM"

-Email was weeks after the last day to add a class(seriously, we are like 25% of the way through the semester...)
-Student had no prerequisites for the upper level class they were trying to get him into
-Email shows that somebody high up was concerned about the number of independent studies classes(can't plead ignorance and put all the blame on Debby anymore since somebody else was watching these enrollments)

So this kid who obviously can't read anything more complex than 'Goodnight Moon' is flunking one of the few legit classes that he is in, yet a move to a 400-level Swahili course over a month into the semester would be a good move for him long-term. SOUNDS LEGIT, UNC FANS.

----

Now we have Emmert spitting on his tip, getting ready to bury it into all the UNC haters. Saying shit like this:

Quote :
"at the end of the day, only the universities themselves can take responsibility for that. You can't have anybody from a conference office or national office go in and say here's how you teach English 101. No, only the schools can do that."

So basically, the NCAA doesnt care if you cheat so long as your method of cheating is to have a college that has absolutely no work or rigor.

Quote :
"Representatves Tony Cárdenas (D - Calif.) and Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D - Md.) sent a letter to NCAA President Mark Emmert on Tuesday requesting information about NCAA oversight of academic services provided to student-athletes...

In Tuesday's letter, Cardenas and Cummings wrote: 'The NCAA's response suggests that participation by non-student athletes in 'no-show' classes somehow inoculates NCAA member institutions from sanctions by their governing body. Although the NCAA routinely legislates matters as mundane as meal quotas for student-athletes, its failure to sanction the use of 'no-show' classes calls into question the NCAA's commitment to its educational mission.'"

the DG show was in full Pravda mode for UNC yesterday. even had Marvin Williams on taking about finishing his degree in, i shit you not, AFAM, which he started at the height of all the fake classes

but the best of the day was Art Chansky saying "I wouldn't have done the Waintstein Report--they had already put reforms in place to change."

lololololol

I can only assume that today we'll get a lesson in the record of state schools with "The" in the title vs those with "state" in the title

Expect to hear more and more of how small of a percentage of actual athletes are involved. Not sure how old this is, but Google says 1 day.

All these great stories bringing the unc name down. I love it so much.

Its like a glorious slow controlled lead up to the huge climax. Like that song, Stairway to Heaven.

The part where he screams "and as we wind on down the road........" thats the climax. And in the unc world, its where we hear about the murdered track coach being a cover up for the steroids program at unc. I can't wait. =)

from "Whitewash Report":

Max Owens his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years is listed as a PE major, and then in his 4th year he's listed as AFAM. Considering the differences in the two degrees, even if every elective the man took was AFAM, how does that work if he graduated?

Surprises me that Makhtar Ndiaye was never an AFAM major. (Communications.)

The paper classes (as opposed to independent study) didn't start til Guthridge was coach (there were independent study classes when Dean Smith was coach).

I'm not confidant this is 100% correct, but from what I've read Boxill is going through the internal appeal process for employee discipline. They won't just fire her without giving her due process as it relates to their policy and procedure.

Wrong. You can be terminated and still fight it. I have a coworker who was fired and ran through all of the appeals he could (he lost and should, because he was a bad employee). He was met by security and escorted from the building after cleaning out his desk one morning. He is not allowed back on campus, and has been fighting this for over a year. So no, you can absolutely be fired and still be fighting the termination.

Is the fact that Boxill not being tenured not supposed to expedite this? She's got a very lofty position(s) and awards for not even being tenured. I mean, we know what she's the MVP of, keeping athlete's eligible, but has UNC ever been forced to explain her not being tenured???

I didn't say they can't fire her without going through the appeal process. I'm saying they're not firing her until she goes through the appeal process. This is all on purpose on UNCs part, they don't want to let her go for many good (to them) reasons.

Appeals process takes FOREVER.

First you can complain to your supervisor, unless that is who the complaint is against. Then you go through different appeals up the food chain until it gets to the Chancellors Office. At every level they have an investigation, a meeting, a hearing, etc. Finally when all of these are shot down you can still file to have your case heard in Court in Raleigh by the OAH. Current situation I am dealing with, guy lost at every turn, even up the Chancellors office. He alleged disability discrimination that went through EEOC and lost. Then his case was taken back up by OAH. Case finally got taken up and was going against him so he dismissed it himself. Now he has one year to refile and do it all again. Guy was fired in middle of 2012! So this shit can take forever. He is a professional litigant so I am sure he will wait until the last possible second to refile and then everybody has to do the same song and dance all over again.

Some guy on PP

Quote :
" I participate with an organization that awards grants for research in certain areas of business. We typically award around $15 million each year in research grant dollars with our organization receiving the output of the research. A school within UNC-CH submitted their grant proposal (the specific grant was for $6.5 million). Today we voted to get to our final 3, UNC-CH did not make the list and they have been awarded grant money in the past. The SACS accreditation review was mentioned as it is our policy to immediately eliminate from consideration any affected school that has an accreditation warning or probation. It was decided that with all of the academic issues at UNC-CH and the possibility of accreditation issues, it was decided to eliminate their proposal.

So, for those of you that believe this is only for "pointy headed academics", you would be incorrect."

You would not believe how many UNC fans last night seriously thought Wainstein and Willingham were the same person once the ineligible players in those 23 wins vs 2 wins came up. Some of these people were dead serious because they started the typical Willingham attacks when Wainstein was brought up...

Obviously were aren't doing enough on social media and the media isn't doing enough to keep this shit fresh in their minds. We need new ammo...

This isn't it, but Willingham and UNC Go To Mediation (lol):

http://www.wral.com/mediator-to-take-crack-at-resolving-dispute-between-unc-willingham/14356593/

Quote :
"UNC-Chapel Hill lawyers have asked that the lawsuit be dismissed, noting that Willingham resigned at the end of the 2013-14 school year and still hasn't completed the university's grievance and appeals process.

Both sides asked a federal judge on Monday to postpone ruling on any motions in the case so they can meet with a mediator on Feb. 9, saying that they have been trying to resolve the dispute without going to trial.

If no agreement is reached, the lawsuit will move forward, the motion states."

Fucking mediators are always a shit show. They have every incentive in the world to side with the guy paying them. At the very least they try to do split decision middle ground bullshit when it's obvious one side is right.
