i found it amusing that Fox News didn't show delegates going to Ron Paul during the roll call - gotta stick to that narrative...make Romney look unanimous. I just saw the screens at the gym, so never heard the commentary. CNN showed Paul delegates. 8/28/2012 9:09:03 PM |

Wait what's this on fox news? Is this a weird dream? Are they actually calling out one of their own?
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/30/paul-ryans-speech-in-three-words/
Quote : | "On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.
The good news is that the Romney-Ryan campaign has likely created dozens of new jobs among the legions of additional fact checkers that media outlets are rushing to hire to sift through the mountain of cow dung that flowed from Ryan’s mouth. Said fact checkers have already condemned certain arguments that Ryan still irresponsibly repeated.
Fact: While Ryan tried to pin the downgrade of the United States’ credit rating on spending under President Obama, the credit rating was actually downgraded because Republicans threatened not to raise the debt ceiling.
Fact: While Ryan blamed President Obama for the shut down of a GM plant in Janesville, Wisconsin, the plant was actually closed under President George W. Bush. Ryan actually asked for federal spending to save the plant, while Romney has criticized the auto industry bailout that President Obama ultimately enacted to prevent other plants from closing.
Fact: Though Ryan insisted that President Obama wants to give all the credit for private sector success to government, that isn't what the president said. Period.
Fact: Though Paul Ryan accused President Obama of taking $716 billion out of Medicare, the fact is that that amount was savings in Medicare reimbursement rates (which, incidentally, save Medicare recipients out-of-pocket costs, too) and Ryan himself embraced these savings in his budget plan.
Elections should be about competing based on your record in the past and your vision for the future, not competing to see who can get away with the most lies and distortions without voters noticing or bother to care. Both parties should hold themselves to that standard. Republicans should be ashamed that there was even one misrepresentation in Ryan’s speech but sadly, there were many.

You mean, they have no idea how to support a democratic president. I saw a pretty funny segment on the Daily Show that last night that showed the pundits during both the RNC and the DNC making completely contradictory statements and assesment. One example was Brit Hume praising Ryan for all the economic details he made in his speech (even though he didn't really give any details), and then turning around and completely criticizing Clinton for the details (when clinton actually did go into details). There were multiple examples of this. 9/13/2012 11:24:14 AM |

Just a simple, non-inflammatory question here.
Let's say Romney does win the election, maybe even by a decent margin.
What are you guys going to blame it on exactly? Is it going to be some widespread vote tampering / corruption?
Or are you going to admit media bias and polling errors?
Could Republicans be screwing up polling by calling themselves independents or not participating?
I'm just curious what the attitude might be around here if Obama falls? Disbelief? Instant defensive stance against Soapbox Republicans?
I for one am not planning on gloating, but I'd like to know in advance what you'd be feeling in your worst-case scenario.
Of course politics being discussed more often now in Chit Chat makes leaving here like I promised more appealing 9/26/2012 2:03:18 PM |

No one is suggesting that Romney has a 0 percent chance of winning, so unless one is completely unreasonable, knee-jerk reactions that haven't happened yet like the ones you're already getting a hardon for wouldn't happen.
You're creating an unwinnable situation here, though. If Romney doesn't win, I doubt you'll admit the lack of "tampering/corruption", or lack of "media bias and polling errors."
So either Romney wins and you get to say "you were all fooled by the MSM" or Obama wins and you get to say "you were all fooled by the MSM."
I'm curious to know what you think about Nate Silver's methodology, and why you're so confident that he's wrong currently to predict Obama at 79.7%? Is it only the super secret polls that you have and not the terrabytes of data he analyzes that are correct? 9/26/2012 2:10:38 PM |

I also don't claim to be smarter than Mr. Silver, and I don't think he is necessarily incorrect.
I don't think either candidate is unbeatable, although I am annoyed by attitudes regarding an Obama landslide.
I tend to be very cautious about polls at this point in the game. I consider right now to be very early.
I don't think Obama has independents wrapped up in any way at all. 9/26/2012 2:23:55 PM |
Str8Foolish All American 4852 Posts user info edit post |
Well a lot of that hinges on the fact that Republicans have been reidentifying themselves as independent in droves.
It's not a perfect correlation, but it's pretty obvious that a decent chunk of Independents might just be Republicans trying to shed the albatross that is their actual party identification:
In other words, the independence of Independents is overrated, and I wouldn't expect them to shift wildly in these last few weeks. Obama should concern himself chiefly with getting the vote out of Democrats.

I think cable news (and maybe news outlets in general) tries to remain PG to protect the chilluns, and people kind of expect it to be PG. Many adults would be disturbed by watching a live suicide, especially if it's gory (which this one didn't turn out to be, luckily). So it's in the network's best interest not to show it. 10/1/2012 6:39:03 PM |
