Apparently, according to you, even when well-established libertarians call themselves libertarians, they’re not libertarians.
here’s a hint: you’re not the sole arbiter on who/what is libertarian. You have a single view, that even other libertarians would disagree with. “Libertarian” doesn’t have a single meaning, and the definition is going to be molded by Republicans who co-opt the name because they don’t want to be associated with Republicans.
You can throw a temper tantrum whenever this happens, but it doesn’t change the fact that you don’t in fact determine what is “Libertarian” for all libertarians.6/23/2010 9:28:24 AM |

^^I know I've said this before, but if someone thinks the government should be telling adults what kind of relationships they can be in, they're not libertarian. If they think the government should be legislating morality and enforcing "traditional values," they're not libertarian. If you think the government should be determining what you can do with your own body, you're not libertarian. If you call yourself libertarian, and in the same breath advocate having the government take over something that doesn't involve protecting individual rights, you just don't know what libertarian means, plain and simple. 6/23/2010 11:24:36 AM |

^ None of that is necessarily wrong, but you're missing the point. Person X in the media will claim they're a libertarian, and they may be, except in situation Y. Indy has a tendency to jump in and shout about how they're not a "real" libertarian, and he knows, because he is one, and that "people" are trying to distort what a "real" libertarian is.
The point is that for a political philosophy, for all practical purposes, the "real" libertarians are the largest group of people who call themselves libertarians. At this point in time, largely thanks to the Internet, there are MASSES of people who are really just fiscally conservative Republicans running around saying they are libertarians (although there is some intersection in the philosophies), and the media has been reporting the situation thusly. Therefore, as far as the average Ameican™ is concerned, libertarians=republicans. Indy whining about this fact really just makes him looks naive, and doesn't do anything to help the state of the libertarian "party."
Sadly, the Libertarian party are a lot like anarchists in the sense that their philosophies don't give them a propensity to organize and actually clarify their beliefs, which just means a flood of these eTuff libertarians whining on the Internet about how great libertarians-- but only the "REAL" libertarians, not the "FAKE" ones-- are. 6/23/2010 8:47:21 PM |

"I'm doing it because I said I was going to do it," Obama said. It's only "Democratic" when talking about the "Democratic Party" There is such a thing as a "Democrat". As in, are you a "Democrat"? You don't say, "are you a Democratic"? A majority of Democrats is a "Democrat majority". Also known as a "Democratic majority". They are both correct.

No, no it isn't.
A party that contains Democrats is referred to as a Democratic party.
A majority that contains Democrats is referred to as a Democratic majority.
That's the word you are supposed to use.
The phrase "Democrat party" has come into play in the past decade after use by the GOP as some sort of diminutive term.
It's just as bad as "lamestream media," "lieberals," "Faux News," and any other term you can use that automatically negates your argument and makes you look like an idiot. 6/28/2010 12:26:16 PM |

Across From White House, Coffee With Lobbyists June 24, 2010
Quote : | "WASHINGTON — There are no Secret Service agents posted next to the barista and no presidential seal on the ceiling, but the Caribou Coffee across the street from the White House has become a favorite meeting spot to conduct Obama administration business.
Here at the Caribou on Pennsylvania Avenue, and a few other nearby coffee shops, White House officials have met hundreds of times over the last 18 months with prominent K Street lobbyists — members of the same industry that President Obama has derided for what he calls its 'outsized influence' in the capital.
On the agenda over espressos and lattes, according to more than a dozen lobbyists and political operatives who have taken part in the sessions, have been front-burner issues like Wall Street regulation, health care rules, federal stimulus money, energy policy and climate control — and their impact on the lobbyists' corporate clients.
But because the discussions are not taking place at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, they are not subject to disclosure on the visitors' log that the White House releases as part of its pledge to be the 'most transparent presidential administration in history.'
The off-site meetings, lobbyists say, reveal a disconnect between the Obama administration's public rhetoric — with Mr. Obama himself frequently thrashing big industries' 'battalions' of lobbyists as enemies of reform — and the administration's continuing, private dealings with them." |
Quote : | "'They're here all the time — all day,' Andre Williams, a manager at Caribou Coffee, said of his White House customers. (He can spot White House officials by the security badges around their necks, or the Secret Service agents lurking nearby.)
'A lot of them like lattes — that or a "depth charge," a coffee with a shot of espresso,' Mr. Williams said. 'The caffeine rush — they need it.'
Some administration officials and lobbyists say that meeting away from the White House allows officials to get some air without making visitors go through the cumbersome White House security process. Others, however, acknowledge that one motivation is the desire to avoid lobbyists' names showing up too often on the White House logs." |

Could've gone in the "Obama Flip-Flops" thread, too. But can we get visitors' logs at the coffeehouses for the "most transparent presidential administration in history"? Just asking.7/1/2010 9:15:24 AM |
