its a shame Jevoni didn't play a single minute in our victories over UNC and Duke last year

we would've beaten them a lot worse if he had sniffed the court

This is a Calvin Leslie thread. Can we have a separate thread for Jevoni discussion?

I always liked CJL. Super talented. Seemed like a cool guy. Never came off as arrogant to me. I attribute his slumps to a lack of confidence, maybe maturity, but not effort. I wish he was coming back. I feel terrible for him right now. Jules should call him up and take him out for drinks.

What? Did you actually watch the games? Howell showed full effort at all times. CJL would frequently give up on plays.

Salvage the season? We made the tournament, what was there to salvage? Sure it didn't live up to expectations but it was in no means bad season.

eh, a lot of his slumping was a result of trying to do too much.

a buddy of mine texted me a week before the draft and said he saw CJL do an interview that had a hat with little weed leaves embroidered all over that. Anyone see that or have the link? It would be pretty stupid of him if it's true.

You know what Brandon Jennings bought when he got drafted after playing in Europe for a year?

A honda accord.

He also got an apartment within walking distance to their training facility so he wouldnt have to drive.

CJ should take notes. But if all he bought was that Porsche then thats not too bad

He should look to sell that porsche while it still has some value and cut his losses. No way he should be dropping that kind of cash at this point...

meh. most college graduates i know have made much worse purchasing decisions (based on % of income). as long as he doesn't have a 20 person entourage he'll be fine.

^^ So some other people making even worse financial decisions makes CJL's less stupid decision not a bad thing? Seriously the guy is only guaranteed like $200k at this point. Can't go and drop like $90k on a car when you have no idea if you'll have a regular income beyond January. Oh well good luck to CJ, hope he can make a roster and stick in the NBA. We need more State guys in the league.

Not that everyone didn't already know it, but, there you go, he only actually tried in a handful of games.

You're supposed to show up in all of the games brah

he's guaranteed just under $500k even if they cut/waive him. If he stays past Jan 7th he gets a million.

Quote :
" Scouts have told The Post Leslie occasionally didn’t have a high motor during games.

About seven teams looked to sign Leslie, but he chose the Knicks, who offered him a two-year deal at the league minimum.

“I felt like I connected with the coaches the most,’’ Leslie said. “I turned down better offers.’’

Regarding the scouting skeptics, Leslie said, “Every game I was supposed to show up in I showed up in. I don’t think it’s a question of my talent. I don’t know if they have a wrong impression. Stuff gets spread that’s not necessarily true. ‘’"

every game I was supposed to show up in...shouldn't that be every game? that's basically saying, "I only played hard when the team couldn't coast on everyone else's talents"

Nah I don't need to do that. He just admitted that he could have played better, but only showed up in games he was "supposed" to. We all know that means the "big"'games.

he didn't say that he failed to show up in "less important" games, did he? It's funny the way some people interpret quotes.

Quote :
"every game I was supposed to show up in...shouldn't that be every game?"

theoretically yeah. but has been discussed, he had some slumps and bad games, more than the average "star", and a lot of it seemed to stem from frustration. but there's not a player in the country who "shows up" for every game.

There is a difference between showing up but having a bad game and not showing up at all.

And yeah, there are players that show up for all games. Hell, just look at our team last year. I'd argue Howell "showed up" and played hard every game (even though he had some bad ones).

they updated it since the last time I checked. now it's not guaranteed but they added a qualifying offer for 2015-16.

http://www.hoopsworld.com/new-york-knicks-team-salary

also here http://www.backingthepack.com/2013/7/9/4506640/leslie-signs-partially-guaranteed-contract-with-knicks

Quote :
"SO Leslie is officially on the roster til Jan. 7th with the New York Knicks. Leslie signed for the rookie minimum ($490,180 courtesy of hoopsworld.) in a partially guaranteed deal. if he's on the roster after the 7th of January the deal becomes fully guaranteed and he gets paid for the whole year. The info was posted on Pack Insider this morning. Leslie has a qualifying offer that if picked up will give him a salary next year of $1,016,482 guaranteed."

also, Hickson makes $5m a year?

a lot of leslies "good games" were "good" because he had 25 points and a lot of cool moves/dunks but nobody remembers how in a lot of those games, he made boneheaded fouls, turnovers and put ZERO effort into playing defense or rebounding in the clutch.

Well not necessarily "without him" because then we would have had a depth issue but if you say something like "replace him with painter and we'd be a better team" then yes, I'm one of those people.
