Love reading through the polls. Shows how corrupt the system is. Harris Poll has a guy who voted Okie State 6th and Houston 5th. A lot of voters have Va Tech ahead of clemson (actually, 51 out of 115 do in Harris; 34 of 59 in Coaches), and not by insignificant amounts. A former Stanford player voted Bama 4th behind Stanford.
This whole thing blows.

Had iowa st. won agains k state last week, it might have been osu instead of alabama since the final bcs was so close.
but we'll never know since nobody knows what goes into the computer formulas....what a joke. 12/5/2011 11:29:27 AM |

In theory if they had a large enough sample size all the biases would get balanced out, but they don't. 115 is not a large enough group of people. 3-4 people can easily have a bias against a team that can cost that team a #2 slot or a BCS at-large bid.
And the coaches poll is worse. Let's ask some of the only people in the country who CANNOT watch the games on Saturday to put their votes in Sunday morning!!! Plus their own biases will be all over the poll, a change in ranking for one team by a few slots can drastically impact how much money that coaches' conference can bring in. The sample size is so low that ONE biased coach (or coach's assistant) can significantly impact a team.
I always thought they should farm out the coaches poll to Div1aa/Div2/Div3 coaches. The ones that won't have as much to gain or lose from a team's ranking. Plus since a lot of those teams don't play on Saturday they might actually be able to watch a few of the games!

wow, the Honey Badger is a Heisman finalist.
This is the classic example of best player vs. most valuable.
I dont think hes the best player in the country at all, not even close. But I dont think anyone has been more valuable to his team this year. But, the Heisman goes to the best (we will call this the "Manning") and not to the most valuable (known as the "Woodson").
So I think its Richardson or Luck. Probably Richardson

I'm not saying I agree or disagree, just wondering who you would call the "best" player in the country under the definition you just gave.
Maybe I'm confused. Are you saying that Honey Badger isn't even close to Richardson or Luck in pure football talent?

man i disagree; i think tyrann mathieu is the best player in the country.
i'm not the closest follower of football in the world, but i'd say that i watch more college football than most, and i have never seen a guy just dominate the football field the way that he does. 12/5/2011 7:51:50 PM |

he gets burned in a lot of one on one coverage. He does a lot of risky, all or nothing, type shit. Da'Rick tore him up for example when he was on him, then they moved Claiborne over and pretty much shut him down. He is great when a corner has a guy locked down, and he swoops into to do some risky jump for the ball and gets it and takes it all the way back for a pick 6, but lined up one on one vs great receivers he got burned a lot. He would be a GREAT safety
I think Richardson is the best overall player. Luck is right there with him. HB is really really good, definitely close in talent, just think he needs to learn more to be a badass ALL the time. Remember, hes only a sophomore.

There is something very "Polamalu" about him. High risk and high reward but the ability to change a game on a single play.
Those Ed Reed, Polamalu types are so rare in today's game. 12/5/2011 8:03:17 PM |

Hey, in the Army-Navy game most people have a fairly loose reason to support one side or the other. I cheer for the Navy because my dad worked at a NADEP. Nevermind that it was actually on a Marine base, technically he worked for the Navy so I cheer for them. 12/5/2011 9:25:10 PM |

I root for the only service academy that matters, the motherfucking Air Force!
Since the Air Force grew from the Army, I pull for Army over Navy. I pull for the Air Force because of my father, and also being in the Civil Air Patrol, the Air Force Auxillary, as a teenager. 12/5/2011 9:35:58 PM |

^I was watching the preview of "A Game of Honor" on CBS on Saturday and they said Navy got screwed on a bad call against Air Force this year and lost on a FG in OT. Then the captain for Navy was suspended for a game for calling out the ref. I guess you have the bragging rights this year then since Air Force won the Comander in Chief Trophy.

In 2006 #1 Ohio State beat #2 Michigan, 42-39
Wonder what Jaybee thought about a national championship rematch then
Let's go to the tape
Quote : | "^ I think its more wanting to give another team a chance at Ohio State and not just redo the same matchup " |
Quote : | "wow, what a buch of fucking pansies....
"hey, we lost, lets just keep playing over and over until we win too!"
a rematch is retarded. Michigan had their chance, played a great game, but lost to Ohio State, give someone else a chance. It happens all the time... for instance, in a league that has 2 divisions and a championship game the best two teams might be in the same division, but they dont get a "rematch" in the championship game, they had their chance in the regular season and didnt get it done. For example, in the SEC, there were several years where Florida/Tennessee/Georgia in the East were much better than anyone in the West but they didnt get any of this communist "aww, everyone has to feel good, no one can be a loser, cant hurt anyones feelings" bullshit" |
Oh, that's a good one
Quote : | "and if it was REALLY obvious that they were the two best, for example, Ohio State undefeated, Michigan with one loss, and the next best team in the country had 3 losses, than ok, do a rematch. But with a lot of one loss teams out there pick one that didnt just lose to Ohio State in the previous game" |
Quote : | "I am pretty unbiased as well, just dont support this revisionist pussy ass bullshit. They had their chance, and lost. And you cant claim "they were the only one to lose to a the number 1 team", not everyone has had a chance to play the number one team, thats the whole point of NOT letting Michigan have another chance before someone else has a first chance." |
Quote : | "let it happen on the field, Michigan had a chance and couldnt do it, give someone else a shot." |
Quote : | "Woody Hayes just made 3 great points
1. Anyone in the National Championship game should have at least won their own conference." |
Quote : | "Best we can do is let a different team have a shot rather than the one that just LOST" |

UNBIASED
I also find it amusing how so many pundits out there, like Pat Forde, have written columns saying, basically, "deal with it" as far as the national title game rematch is concerned...saying that "it's the system and the best we can do under it" blah blah blah
Then, in the same fucking breath
have the balls to get outraged over the Sugar Bowl picking Virginia Tech
un-fucking-believable
look, VT was a bullshit call, but if you're going to defend the national title matchup, you have to defend every single other bowl game out there...including telling Western Kentucky to "deal with" not getting to a bowl the first time in school history they've been eligible. it's all part of the same bullshit system. you're either in or out. don't ride the fucking fence and shit on one bowl's selection while supporting another.
