WPT event, not WSOP, but yeah!
$1,500 Super Satellite today at Bellagio... 478 entrants... 45 seats. I'm in, baby!!
I built up a big chip stack really early even though I just wasn't getting hands... but then I lost a lot of chips (I had AA once all tourney, but I RAN INTO AA 4 times after I raised (that I know of... it could've easily been more)). I got really lucky on one hand near the end - I was short stacked ($12k with 800/1600 blinds and 200 antes)... it was all in or fold time, and I pushed with KT and ran into TT. The flop was AA4, the turn an A, and the river an A! So I had AAAAK. That was with about 55 players left, and so I got up to $30k with that hand... just above average. I basically just managed to hang on, winning the blinds and antes a few times after that, and an hour and a half or so later, we finally got down to 45!
The $15k event is the 5-diamond classic and Bellagio, one of the biggest WPT events of the year. There will be probably around 500 players, and they'll pay 100 spots in it! It starts monday, I can't wait!12/11/2005 3:04:27 AM |

I only started playing it consistantly 3 weeks ago.
I didnt play the week it was the 600+30 or whatever it was for 700k G.
With the other weeks, the fields are enormous. Even with that you see some of the top top players on the site and in internet poker overall playing this tournament concurrently with the party 500k. Its quite intimidating to be sitting there at a table with 5 people youve watched multitable the 2000nl cash game tables.
With that being said however, Id say a good percentage of the entrants seem to satelleite into the tournament, and the beginning still plays about like a $5 tournament for the first hour or so. Near the ~400-500 person left mark it seems to toughen up considerably.
However, close after this time is when it starts to get interesting due to the blinds getting really high in relation to the avg. stack and your stack.
As to cashing, unfortunately I have bubbled both times Ive played it recently. Last week was the worst, I was sitting 50th place in chips overall, right on the bubble. Well I like to use this time to accumulate some chips to try and run deep into a tournament. However, I had this extreme retard at my table. Granted I had been raising alot, and showing down garbage unfortunatley, So I guess my image wasnt exactly stellar. My stack at this point in time is about 25 big blinds, which is well above the average. As I said, I was 50th in chips and ~400 remained out of the 3500 field. UTG min-raises with about 27 big blinds left, I pushed from the button with black KK. Granted, I could do this on a resteal with just about any two, but this time i have a legitimate hand. He insta-calls. "Oh fuck" bells go off in my head, till he flips As8s ... wtf??
anyways, ace on the river, he vaults to chip lead.
this tournament will be mine someday.
oh and you start with 2500 chips so that is nice.12/11/2005 3:57:42 PM |

Good info Pilgrim, thanks. I figure if I'm making good decisions, eventually I'll be able to make a run and finish somewhere in the money in it. Just cashing in it would be sweet! I'm planning on being in it every Sunday.
Tough to lose with KK like that. That being said, did you question if you should have just gone to the flop and then gone all in when there was no Ace out? Not that getting all your money in with KK preflop is ever bad, but still...

No.
Ill push there every time.
I love to have him call with A8, or even AK or an underpair.
Id rather double up and be chip lead than win the pot and move up like 5 spots.
Also, at this point in the tournamnet in a big cash game like this one, you only see flops like 1:15 hands. most pots are uncontested
hand slike KK dont come around often enough not to get a whole lot of value everytime.
oh and i plan on playing the 500k on both party and stars today. This is my first week doing so.
g/l to you. what is your name on there? I gotta look out.

ive noticed something interesting. every time ive made a final table, somewhere along the way ive made a terrible call and ended up sucking out big time with all my chips in the pot
and when i play what i feel to be "mistake free" poker (at least from what i can SEE) -- i end up busting out on a hand where im a 9:1 favorite hahaha12/11/2005 6:02:03 PM |

^ Sucking out for all your money is almost always going to happen when you make a run deep into the tournament. Luck often gives you a shot to make that run, skill allows you to convert on that opportunity. 12/11/2005 6:20:00 PM |

That is a prime example of how to fuck up hardcore in a tournament.
I horribly fucked that one up, i think, or it may have just been a place where I am supposed to go broke more often than not.
a.) i only called the raise from the bb with a pair merely for the fact that he had bet the pot every time with AK and he did the same when he had whiffed the flop with AK. b.) the other guy calling, if i set up im golden and going to at least double up. c.) i was getting short with only about 13 BB left, and a rising blind soon. d.) i dont like pushing with middling pairs.
so, i missed the set, no high cards on the flop. as expected he bets the pot and the other guy calls.
heres where i messed up again. i check raised all in, but my raise all in was for about t1200 itno a t1900 pot. he pretty much would have to call even with high cards or the flush draw.
unfortunately, he had the other thing i was worried abotu, an overpair.
now, I hate to say it, but I have no idea what or where I could have done anything different in order to make the play correct.
a.) fold preflop - with a dwindling stacks, folding a pair just doenst seem right. b.) fold to the flop bet - probably, but had dipped aboud 1/5 of my remaining stack and needed help bad. the flop was very non-scary for a pair of 8's. 9, 2, 4 or something like that. c.) raise all in pf - hes calling every time, with a range of AJ+, TT+ and maybe 99 d.) open the flop leading out all in - the stop'n'go, would have been better if i really 100% thought he was on high cards. he would have called anyways. e.) just call the flop bet. - oh hell no f.) im out of ideas.
I think it jsut one of those situations.
on the party however,
dude man calling my pfr, reraise on the flop, and then all in on the turn with bottom pair is just atrocious. and then hitting his kicker on the river was just fantastic.
Balls.
im taking a break for real now before vegas. need to be fresh and ready for some serious gamb00lin.12/11/2005 6:28:27 PM |

I was playin $100 NL at Elsinore Casino last night. Bunch of drunk hicks there. Easy money.
I've found that its best not to try to bluff women. They are used to that shit from guys, and they usually play tighter than guys as well. Trapping them works better for me.
So I caught the nut flush on the flop going up against a bull-dyke and an azn chick. I check, the bulldyke bets 20 bucks and the azn calls. I call as well.
Turn makes a straight draw on the board. I check, dyke checks, azn goes all in for $60 or so. I make a point to wait for a while, check my cards, act like I don't know what I'm gonna do. Finally I call. Bulldyke takes a long damn time before calling as well, because she's drawing and she already has a good amount of money in the pot.
River comes down a random jack. I try to put the dyke all in but she folds.
I show the chicks my nuts and take down the ~$250 in the pot.
After a little over an hour, I left with $500 bucks. I need to go there more often. 12/12/2005 1:34:43 AM |

bad beat rant
4k Tourny... I'm twice the average stack (7,500). 2nd place chip leader is at my table (21,000).
I'm dealt pocket 7's. The leader raises blind from 60 to 180. I call. Everyone folds around. Flop comes 4,3,K rainbow. He bets 120. I raise to 300. He calls. Turn comes 7 (jackpot!). He bets 200, I raise to 500. He raises all-in, I call immediately. He has 3,5. Bottom pair. Of course they give him the 6 for the straight on the river. I would have been an easy seat at the final table...
and then like 4 other horrible beats in sitandgo tables. Pocket 10's, flop A,10,K. I make small bet, called by 2 people. turn is an A (money card). Small bet again, reraised all in. I call and dude has A3. The river is another A for quads and the win..fucker.
first hand i sit down too at one table...dealt pocket K's, guy under the gun raises blinds from 10 to 200. I go all in. He calls with 64 off suit and flop come 6,8,4...no help on turn. River is a 6 for his full boat. First hand.,, and then he talks shit

That table lineup is news to me... complete redraw last night. Looks like I'll be stealin' Steve Dannenmann's blinds
Oh, and SHIT, I hate having Zolotow at my table. He knocked me out of the $3k event (18th) during the WSOP this year. But that's not the reason... it's just that he's a cranky old-timer, and a major stickler for the rules.
Also, they have my chip count slightly wrong... I have 80,925, so I'm actually in 45th, right behind Gracz, FWIW.
You should note that, me, Dennis, Mike Gracz, and Chris Bell (all of us from Raleigh) are all above avg!
