Maybe after tob leaves/retires/gets fired we can hire Jags with Logan as OC. Worked out well for BC until their ad went crazy.

So our facilities & money are on par with FSU and Clemson? They have 80,000 seat stadiums, ours is under 60,000. Their coaches are paid double what TOB is paid. He's the 11th highest paid coach. I hate it when people post such ignorant shit. Sounds like something Lee Fowler would say.

I never saw what the big deal is about wake's stadium. Sure, the checkers and grass hill make it a little more intimate but I also I haven't seen the locker rooms inside so I'm not gonna trash it.

That happened in '06, and Grobe hasn't won the conference or even their division since, and had terrible records in the 6 years leading up to their acc championship. he's 39-55 in his 12 years as an ACC coach. WF isn't a good example.

It's a pretty damn good example.

If you are doing things correctly, occasionally you will put yourself in position to succeed.

Hell we punted ourselves out of an ACC championship one year.

The Sarcastitron 3000 says that was facetious.

I, however, think it is a great example. The dude has an ACC championship at fucking Wake Forest. And I will also submit that he is a demonstrably better coach than TOB.

Wake has a better coach...we must fire ours. I understand. Makes perfect sense.

^ Clemson game

Plus we also 'punted' RW off the team, so really we've punted ourself out of the game twice.

So over tob, you'd prefer a coach who:

-is 3-5 or worse in seven of eleven seasons as an ACC coach? (five 3-5 seasons, two 1-7 seasons, and one 4-4 season)

-is 3-2 in bowl games over 11 seasons?

?

(and Grobe took five terrible years of WF footballl before they miraculously won the acc championship in his sixth. Grobe is a bad example)

[Edited on November 1, 2012 at 10:43 PM. Reason : and they're pretty bad this year too]

That's the point, though. A program as bad as Wake's has still managed to win the conference recently. You gotta go, what, 6-2 to be in good position to win the division? That's not a tall order at all. And FWIW, I don't think we should fire TOB. But the fact that Wake won a conference title proves that it's not unrealistic to think we can sneak up every once in a while and at least win the division. I mean, the ACC is pretty weak.

To answer your question, no. I'd take TOB over Grobe.

^i agree, but as Grobe's record shows, it takes a whole lot of luck sandwiched between a shit-ton of shit for a football program like WF to win the ACC. I'd take TOB over Grobe anyday.

Again I'll ask...when did we make it to the ACC Championship game? Clempson is in our division so I'm not sure how we could be playing them in the ACC Championship. Plus, I think I would have remembered playing in the ACC Championship game.

"Strictly from a results perspective, we can't honestly expect better on the average. From a can-we-win-a-league-title-at-this-rate perspective, though, what we've seen from TOB's staff is troubling. And that's really what it's all about, right? If we can't win the league, then what are we doing here?

These are the issues I have difficulty reconciling internally. Based on history, winning seven games every year is worth a party for NC State, but then again, there is a certain futility to a program that recruits on a Wake Forest level in-state, which is not only frustrating but embarrassing. Times change. If State were recruiting like this with the facilities it had in the '90s, it would make sense. Now it just feels like a waste."

You should hate your ignorant self for thinking that facilities and money are the biggest factors, or can be separated out from the equation. As a whole, NCSU has the ingredients to go to the ACCCG. We know how to beat good ACC teams; we find ways to lose to others. I'm not saying we should be competing with FSU, CU, and VT every year, but in years like this, and a few others under TOB, yes.

I don't know where he posted that we don't have the ability to go to the ACCCG.

I think he's just saying that you can't compare us to those programs, because they are the closest things the ACC has to SEC level programs. Big stadiums, better facilities, and rabid fanbases that are football dominant. There's a reason why Clemson/FSU/Vtech regularly have the top recruiting classes in the ACC. I think we're right behind those three...which is where we usually finish in the conference...right behind Clemson in FSU in the division.

Hopefully we'll able to pull off on of those Conference championships (haven't done it since '79 remember)...but I don't see it happening on a consistent basis.

"the thing is, while it's a different levels, almost every coach in america loses winnable games, sometimes several times a season"

How many coaches routinely make boneheaded calls on strategy that consistently lose games? The UNC game was a microcosm of TOB's coaching problems: crappy starts, predicatable playcalling, surprised by ANY trick play, not getting away from what's not working, and then finally getting something going that works but then abandoning it, ultimately costing the game. There is literally no excuse for trying to run the clock out on the road in a tie game with 1:30 left when the other team has 2 timeouts, especially when you've been able to move at will against the team through the air for almost the entire game. Punting the ball to their star running back who has been unstoppable all game is just the icing on the cake of stupidity.

The man has terrible game management skills, especially towards the end, and it seems that many times we win in spite of TOB's coaching as opposed to because of it. In six years, he's won ONE road divisional game, and even that game effectively has an asterisk beside it. There's no excuse for not beating WF and BC at least once in 3 tries.

I don't think that national championships every year is a reasonable expectation, but winning a divisional road game and not throwing away easily winnable games ARE reasonable. Picking up a copy of "Football Coaching for Dummies" and reading the "Clock Management" chapter is a reasonable request, too. Might even want to skim the section on how to start and finish games, too, as well as the section on firing shitty coordinators

we're not an SEC school... we're not even a school with a record of dominating our less then dominant ACC.... we won't be able to pull a coach that can do that.

TOB is our Herb... of football. We need to stick it out till we can pull a guy like gottfried for football.

So... Do the coaches actually watch game film and come up with a game plan prior to Saturday? Because this season it's looked like they've been surprised early by every opponent's play style.

The UVA coaches obviously do. They are doing what unc did -- running and throwing to the outside because we are too slow to get there, too pussy to tackle, and give a big cushion.

what are you talking about? The 10 yard cushion is the best defense ever imagined! It's what Lombardi used to win his two super bowls and what Rockne used to win his three championships. Hell, Nick Saban was gonna use it at Alabama, but he didn't think he could implement it correctly. it takes a champion like Mike Archer to do it right. That's how Archer was able to take a shit team like LSU from a lowsy 10 wins to an incredible 4 wins in just two years
